The cool thing about ckittens is that they instinctively understand "ow". Watch the next time you see some kittens playing. They will go at it hammer and tongs until one of them yowls (probably because of a bitten ear or somesuch), then they break apart for a second before going at it again. You can see in the vid where the kitten pounces until the baby starts 'yowling' (not in pain, but he can't tell that). No declawing necessary :)

@Evaieuh Yeah, it does seem the baby wasn't scratched by the kitten, but that honestly surprises me. Kittens are still in the process of learning to use their bodies and to not use their claws while playing. Usually they need time to learn where the boundaries between playing and fighing are set. I think most people that have had kittens have been accidentally scratched. Hell, I've even been accidentally scratched by grown cats.

k... people seem to forget the -types- of declawing. =/ We had our 1 year old declawed traditionally by the doctor pulling them out... she's never been right since. A huge mistake on my husband and I's part. Our 6 month old, we had declawed with laser surgery. It's less painful, they can use the kittybox right away and healing time in ten times faster than pulling. He's fine to this day. People... come on.

I work with cats and have never been a fan of declawing. If the concern is for the safety of the kid, then wait until the kid is older and can be taught how to treat animals with care. If the issue is for the safety of furniture, than teach the kitty not to claw, as I did, or don't get a cat if one is so in love with the damn sofa.
