In this particular game, the additional memory provided by the expansion pack was used to support the larger levels of the single player modes as opposed to providing graphical enhancements.
One thing to note, without the expansion pack, if you have a second player, your screens are split into much more smaller boxes (as if 4 people were playing, but with just 2 boxes instead of 4)
I prefer to play this and most other expansion pak compatible games with the high res turned off, because unfortunately the frame rate suffers most of the time when high res is turned on. Its especially bad in this game.
this game not only has worse graphics, your limited to what you can actually do in the game without an expansion pack. serious rip off marketing tool made by Nintendo, the game developers could have easily just compensated by its low memory and made the graphics less instead of completely butcher this game if you dont have an expansion pack

Also, the anti-aliasing is more present with the expansion pak. Just notice the ground textures on the map without EP . The video compression kind of mask these things, so it would be more noticeable on real hardware.
@Flexasaurus1 N64 uses AA in some games (take a look to Mario 64) since it have Z Buffer. The difference in most of games with expansion pack is that the resolution is 640 x 480 instead of 320 x 240.
Has the expansion pack provides better gameplay and better frame rates when ever the hi-res is turned off and you head straight into multiplayer. But I plan on RGB modding my n64 system so that everything will look way better :)
everything its the same, but you cant acces the hires mode from the menu, and you cant play solo because thats full of lighting effects, the multiplayer maps are the most simple of all thats why you can play them normaly

@RunescapeRuShClan Yeah that's the expansion pack but if the slot it came out of is empty then that's not good because you shouldn't be able to play anything.

Yeah, did you remember to switch the resolution in the menu? It's definitely noticeable on a TV screen.

Quick tip, if u want to play perfect dark on pc, download a n64 emulator for pc and the perfect dark rom, sorted :)
