@pattygonga91 The original is "Dios guardE el lobo de nuestra cordera" which means; may god guard the lamb from the wolf". "Dios guardÓ el lobo de nuestra cordera" as I've heard on many versions is; god protected the wolf from our lamb. "Dios guardÓ Del lobo A nuestra cordera" means; god did protect the lamb from the wulf. All three have quite different meanings, even if the morphemic changes are tiny. IMHO

The original text is "Dios guardó el lobo de nuestra cordera" and that's how people understood it in the 16th century. Check the original Cancionero de Uppsala facsimile. "Guardar" may also mean "invigilate", "put away by hiding". "God put away the wolf from our lamb"

The Lyrics of the third verse are wrong. The original lyrics are: "Dios guardó DEL lobo A nuestra cordera". Which means: The Lord protected OUR (she)lamb FROM the wolf" or "As God kept our lamb from the wolf" The lamb is a Virgin Mary's reference, while the wolf means the original sin. So the Virgin Mary was conceived without original sin. Maybe someone recorded the song changing the prepositions "DEL" and "LA" giving the song a totally opposed meaning.

Wow a college choir using their music?? Shouldn't you have your music memorized??

As my conducting teacher used to say "I'll make my choirs memorize their music when a professional orchestra memorizes theirs." Most college choirs use their music, because they simply have much more repertoire. And high school teachers often have their students memorize their music because it's so hard to get students to not be BURIED in their music and to LOOK at the conductor.
