I've played both games to completion. I found that the gameplay in Ballance was more solid, but at the expense of the relatively short amount of levels becoming monotonous. Switchball seems to have a more 'complete' feel, and there's too much creative variety for it to be a direct ripoff. What's the Ballance equivalent of the powerball? The magnets? The spikes and air pump? etc.
(By complete I mean in terms of 'polished', 'professional', and so forth. The 12 available achievements go a long way to strengthen the total game time.)
the physics and feel of ballance is a lot more real than switchball... infact you don't even feel variations in the inertia of different balls with switchball... and ballance created like six years ago, created more realistic physics even without harping on ageia physx... onlt thing, switchball's graphics are a lot prettier... but the control of your camera is limited and it really spoils the fun... i'd definitely recommend ballance to anyone interested in this kind of gameplay!
My opinion: Both games are pretty much identical, however... Ballance's difficulty level is much higher and there are far more puzzles jam-packed into a level. While Switchball contains more levels then Ballance, they are more centered around the idea of jaw-kaplunking graphics. Personally I prefer Ballance, and actually enjoyed the ambient bells, whistles, and short atmospheric swells of music compared to Switchball's constant synths. I only wish Ballance contained more levels. *sigh*
they are both amazing games, but ballance gets points for originality and also i really like the fact that when you change forms it's like you are emerging from a cocoon. switchball is not a monotonous because of all the graphics and the constantly playing music, but i don't you can really say that one game is better than the other because they are both absolutely fabulous
Switchball, even though it had very much the same concepts as balance did, was developed mainly to promote the Ageia PhysX engine and the PhysX card.
It's uses of calculating not just hard body physics (balls and boxes), but soft bodies (rubber, foam, flesh, etc), cloth (folding and tearing), and even liquids.
Switchball just came off to me as ballance with a lot more fireworks, and a lot less difficulty. I still can't pass lvl 12 on ballance--and after seeing 13, I'm scared to even try--but I've finished switchball without much trouble.
Ballance was the original, and released by Atari Games back in 2003, not 2004. Level 13 came out in 2004. Switchball is a shameless ripoff, and not nearly as fun...more focused on graphics than puzzle solving.

Marble Blast is not as much a puzzle game, but more of a speedrun game.

Also they added many different obstacles, added cannons, magnets/blocking propellors, added superballs.
Verdict: you suck.

actually I find switch-ball more fun and it's not a rip off some of the same devs helped work on switchball

Personally I think they're both way too slow to be fun. Now if only they could have used switchball's engine to make something fun!

Yes, It's possible, but the games were developed by 2 different teams. I think Cyprade is a german team and Atomic Elbow is an american team.

atomic elbow is swedish

I think Sierra had paid some kind of license to Ballance Developers to do a "remake" of their game.
PD: I like Ballance more than Switchball
