i saw H.R. from bad brains play last night. he played most of his reggae stuff, but he ended the set with pay to cum. it was fucking awesome. i would trade anything to go back to the early 80s and be a part of the hardcore scene
Wow, man..Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but weird how everyone is so into slagging shit these days? The movie is...good, but missed the mark by isolating 'it' as a discrete 'hardcore' packet, They should have highlighted all the other shit going on and emphasized how this underground gumbo fed into it. There was a lot more to it than the 'faster louder' school they focus on. Really wish they delved more deeply into the important places and people not directly related to the bands!
and hardcore is for weak fuckers trying to look more tough than they really are. thats what punk is in general. the disinfraqnchised and isolated. coming together. we're all weak. you are too
@JukeboxHeartbreak91 The difference is, if you showed up to a hardcore show you'd get your nose busted and run out crying. Which in the end proves who's actually tough.
lol where im from the guys who listen to ska get along great with the guys who listen to old (by that i mean real) hardcore, we've got a lot more in common then you think dude

Yeah the hardcore SCENE is historically interesting... but very little of anything musically significant happened. 25 years later, nobody's humming these...ummm..."songs"...
Bullshit no one is humming these songs...this music is a thousand times better then any over processed no talent shit played on the radio stations today. This was real music and im sad that such great spirit and tunes arent being put forth today
@jseanw60x I agree with you100% But there are still some bands out here doing it OUR own Fucking way. Its at a more regional level now, but they're out there. Might not even be Hardcore like this, But what we do is HARDCORE TO US.
these aren't meant to be catchy man. its called punk/hardcore for a reason. they were the anti in their day, and they've influenced just about every one musically in america, even in subtle ways. and you're wrong, people still shout out in their cars "WE'RE JUST, A MINOR THREAT!!"
Nice song choice for the intro. Bad Brains from DC. One of the fastest bands and forgotten bands from the hardcore scene back then. Check out these bands from this movie kids, it might change your musical life.
yeah!yeah! but i think that bands like.. minor threat, bad brains... were called hardcore and also punk rock. but its exactly what you said, the message is different a lot of hardcore bands are not anarchist or not even has a anarchist idea.... most of em care about religion... and punk rock has a lot of people that hate each other, like punks(obvious) and skins..skins nazis or not and whatever.
i agree with what you guys are sayin except for when you say that hc isn't political. bands like mdc, dead kennedy's, circle jerks, black flag, and minor threat were all pretty political. i feel that hc took a more head on approach, like here is the problem-there is the solution.
but, the name of the movie is american HARDCORE... anyone who knows anything about punk will know the difference. i agree with you and maybe i missed why you put this, so i'm not going to be mean or anything nasty. the only thing that sucks is that it makes me more upset about music when i much stuff like this. grr...
i didn't see it yet. i looked at the list of people interviewed from the website; no misfits? that was a whole chapter in the book. instead people like phillip anselmo and gwar? weird. but i gotta see it.
# albums: Static Age, Walk Among Us, Earth A.D. The first album was stylistically '77 era American Punk, but the second and third were hardcore, Earth AD being hardcore to an exaggerated degree. They pressed their own records, did their own merch, bookings, fan club, toured with hardcore bands, etc. So don't be confused if some of their early recordings are more old school punk, they were part of the hXc scene. The book that spawned the movie gave 'em a whole chapter.
point taken, I just usually hear "some kinda hate" and... say Tv Casualties, Hybrid Moments... just doesn't feel hardcore. I don't know what it was, that was the beauty of the Misifts, but I didn't see it as belonging to the Hardcore movement, although some songs certainly did. They were a bit diverse
listen to demonomania or wolfsblood, then tell me they werent hardcore. but i do see where you are coming from, static age wasnt really an album were they exposed there hc.

its what i said...in shorter words!!!
punkbr 4 years ago
man....you cant
say what IS punk rock or
what IS hardcore....
hardcore came from punk
and consenquently sounds like it!
so....
a movie called
american hardcore
cant talk just ABOUT hc...
the roots are very important too!
punkbr 4 years ago
they could do whatever the fuck they want
noisefuckbastard 4 years ago
actually there are distinct differences
and there are alikes
howver they are very much two different and respectable cultures
the music to me is more defined by its fans and the message being expressed
hc is very simple
punk is complex and has alot of political stuff around it and expressional stuff
hc is about being strong mentally and caring and protecting that of which you care for..mainly family and freinds being a major part

Actually this movie also covers the uprising of punk itself. Which is from the sixties, those who wanted something stronger than psycadellic rock.

Misfits are Horror Punk. Which they don't talk about at all in this.
GamerxChick 4 years ago
they didnt talk about them in this movie because of legal reasons between band members same for dead kennedys. Misfits were apart of this movement.
