  • Damn i love this song.

  • Listen to THAT voice on those verses. Majestic, powerful and captivating. I'm beginning to think he had the most powerful singing voice ever. He will be missed. He has been missed.

  • This song is a tremendous contribution to anti conventionality. It twists, swirls, evolves, and winds down. It's very cool.

  • theremin <3

  • Even though he was too ill to perform and largely a recluse painting whatever he painted it was still nice to know he was alive. Hah! I remember hurting my throat at 16 trying to sing "Electricity"! I have a deep voice, developed it early and wondered if doing that helped move it down. Well, of course not but "Safe As Milk" was a prized album as was "Trout Mask Replica." It wasn't until over ten years later in the 80s that I found another C.B. album and I bought five at a time.

  • very strange dreamlike song my nephews favourite god bless his soul, i think shiny beast is a superb album personally

  • Moves me and could bring tears.

  • A soldiers salute.

  • Got SAM when I was 16 back in the 80's in my hometown - Belfast. Loved it then and love it now. Always remends me of one my best friends when I played it to him at a party in the early 90's. He was blown away. CB was special, a one off. Thanks for showing me that I could follow my own path in life Don. RIP

  • Rip Captain.

    we love u.

  • RIP FATHER OF BLUESJAZZFUNK !!

  • Rest In Peace Captain....

  • I never listened to Captain Beefheart, but with his death, have been checkin it out... love this. Have to say, it reminds me of a contemporary of his, Zappa. Hungry Freaks, daddy...

  • Unfortunately it may take his death from him to finally get the respect and recognition he's deserved for so long.

  • That sucks that he died. I was wondering what the sudden boom of comments was about. He had to have been one of the greatest artists of the 20th century in my book. Oh well.

  • @fissionmail3d go back 10 years ago halo razorhead

  • @R3lentlessG4ming i think it's more like Go back ten years ago sunbeams dancing round Go back ten yeas ago sunbeams dancing down Autumn's child Autumn's child Autumn's child got a loophole round her finger Halo rings her head Cornhusk hair makes me linger A cat's stare meet s my dare A man's chair greets my stare Gonna be my wife she sang she said Gonna be my wife gonna spice my life she said Go back ten years ago sunbeams everywhere Go back ten years ago sunbeams fill the air
  • when i was in college, i read helter skelter. while reading it, i listened to this album, man, id get out of bed to check the lock on my apartment door, freaked me out ... love this

  • ABSOLUTELY FKING BRILLIANT - RIP DVV xx

  • :( x

  • RIP CAPTAIN BEEFHEART. I´m almost 40 years old and crying like a child.

  • @nimergas80 only 23 and I'm upset...have been listening since 16. As I was making a tribute video and sorting through all the pictures, I'll admit my throat closed up a little. Hail to the Captain, RIP.

  • @nimergas80 don't worry about it mate I was too he was my idol

  • alas oh beefheart! if a half of the hearts in this world were half as beefy as yours.

  • Don't lament - create!

  • Bad times. Musical Genius. Underrated.

  • RIP and respect.

What a shit way to end the year.

  • @Kitificationable

fuck cock shit balls....so fucking sad.

  • RIP

  • RIP Captain Beefheart.

  • RIP

  • My high school woodshop teacher showed me this Band and told me, "The first time you hear them, you're gonna hate them and think they sound like shit... but listen to some more times after that and they will grow on you..." He was right.

  • there's an ethereal element to everything from this (Magic) band, and of course the Captain leads the creative way with his odd yet tangible lyrics...one of the best of the bit strange of the '67 west coast era

  • Ah, an artist like this comes along every fifty years or so.

Unfortunately I don't see anyone out there ready to replace him.

He had a gift and got as much of it to us as he could afford.

It came at a steep price and its going to take a couple hundred years for

    it to sink in.

    bbcart1

  • I used to roll my special cigarettes on the sleeve of this album then zigzag up a sunbeam*)~

  • in my top 20 favorite songs for sure, the Captain is the real deal

  • Che il Maestro Cuore di Bovino potesse vivere 100 anni!

  • There's something very disturbing and infuriating about how a lot of people might not "get" music like this -- I don't care, I don't "get" Rihanna -- but then they go three steps further and go and talk shit about it like they want to see it just erased. I know, majority rule, but it wouldn't be so painful if what most people listen to wasn't the exact kind of garbage its fans accuse artists like Beefheart of being.

  • awesome

    fucking wondefull as fuck !!!

  • I love this song so much... so catchy, almost a gateway between the blues/jazz styles and people like The Residents.

The bridge at 1:39-2:25 is genius.

Kind of ironic how so much "post-punk" was before punk ever happened, eh?

  • you mean the residents copied the CAPTAIN

this was way way before them light weights man ,, get you facts right !!!!!

  • @spadge321

I never said this guy copied The Residents, just that they're kinda similar.

    I love them both.

  • go back 10 years agao sunbemas dancing round

  • can anyone name another great album by Captain beefheart?

no, this was more of a one hit wonder.

Dont get my wrong, i love the song and the whole cd is pretty solid but this is about it, their only note-worthy cd.

  • trout mask replica,strictly personal,there's 2 for a start.

  • @squaCampos

"Clear Spot" is brilliant, relatively-recent Beefheart (by that, I mean it's maybe 30 years old or so. There's, of course, "Trout Mask Replica" - His classic.

One-hit wonder? I hope you're kidding. This guy was an avant-gard pioneer for close to half a century!

  • @squaCampos

    "Trout Mask Replica"?

    "Doc At The Radar Station"?

  • @squaCampos no its just their only easily listenable cd before it gets really experimental. Just cause things are a popular hit doesnt make them good and even further than that its all just a matter of personal perspective!

  • you shallow thick tit trout mask replica the spotlight kid safe as milk clear spot grown fins mirror man bat chain puller and about another ten too you ignorant twat , get back to your cold play nonsense ,, this is real fucking music ,, cock sucker !!!
  • @squaCampos Not even man. What about Trout mask Replica. What about Shiny Beast. Or Clear Spot. Or even Doc At The Radar Station

  • this is as far as I am concerned the best all time rock track ( and my mother thought so too)

  • @twangel46 was my favourite beefheart track ma!

  • Superb music! Man, such a composition, especially the guitar in the beginning of the song.

This was the proof to me Don could bring down a lot of good sentiments in his voice! It's quite amazing to hear. :D

I have the old LP's and the newer 180gr version with a bonus LP with unreleased material :D

    Love both versions :D

  • F'n awesome

  • Awesome song.

  • Underrated.

  • @moriluk

You summed up the whole album there.

    Good job!

  • what the hell, author deleted my post ?

    why

  • That means that you removed it, not me.

  • sorry

  • @squaCampos captain beefheart deledted your post?

  • @squaCampos captain beefheart deleted your post?

  • @squaCampos

Hahahahaha that is one funny post XD

Do you know what an author is?

  • @squaCampos Why indeed! Author! Author! :-)

  • hate to break it to you, but half the great rock musicians in history would say you're an idiot.

  • Its fine if you think im an idiot, but dont let your emotions cloud your judgment.

Can you name another captain beefheart album thats on par with this one???

    NO you cant.

  • He's most famous for TMR, but I personally like Lick my decals off baby the best. I think all of his albums are as good as this one. This is just the most 'pop' of his stuff, so people who like pop music prefer it and don't understand or like the rest of his stuff.

  • squacampos - thats just your opinion aint it?

alot of people would say troutmaskreplica and clear spot are just as good so why dont you keep the arogance out of it and let it flow?

  • This is one of my favorite songs, dont get me wrong.

But can you name another great captain beefheart cd???

and no, i cant just let it flow, no matter how much i enjoy their music because sometimes we cant just speak of the pretty things, we must also remind ourselves of the things we dont want to hear.

I just dont want to see you guys too happy

  • @squaCampos

Mirror Man is solid. Especially the version with the outakes. Trout Mask Replica has legendary cult status as well.

No one is emotional. They just think you are stupid.

  • Fantastic!

  • autumns child i met her at a balloon bus picnic... dreamlike

  • I love this song!!!!!!

I have some little problems to translate the lyric but It's very passional!

  • Thanks for the upload. Good audio quality too. Classic album-- one of my favorites.

  • Just, indescribable. :)

  • easily one of the greatest singers in rock

  • my god what a song.

much of this album is gold.

  • Great song, and blast from the past

    Rocket

  • this one's for us dora

  • thanks, jack

  • 1967 actually

  • Yeah, that's right. TMR was '69. Thank you. =)
