I grew up in the '80s and remember the fascination with satanism and the occult, especially among the metal community right around '82 to '86 when it peaked. Ozzy really broke the idea on the mainstream public of heavy metal musicians being dark souls on the fringes of soceity. So I'm sure that appealed to many metal musicians and King was one of them, but became disillusioned over time. Like King said, I think it was more about living life without shame than worship of a diety.

Ok Well im a muslim..and Mercyful Fate and Slayer are two of my favorite bands of all time..does him being a Satanist bother me? no..u know wy? because he doesnt give a shit what others believe and he doesnt try to preach..all he does is write songs that are a small reflection of his beliefs...And i dont understand why alot of my friends that like Metal get turned off when they hear that King Diamond's a Satanist..i think its badass that he was a Satanist back in those days!

This is one of the better roundtables, but if you ask even more people about the subject, you'd get an even wider array of feedback and opinions, and beliefs. I was raised a Lutheran Christian...and revenge is mentioned, it's not a good thing, of course, and pride, it can be abused, even if everyone has it. They talk of moderation, while control is also part of that, no matter what you believe,the thing I see worth mentioning; respect and understanding entering the picture in relating to others

@NANU1115 I agree. I'm Catholic as well and I'm a huge fan of Black Metal. I've been listening to it since the early 90's and I really could care less about the lyrics or Satanic imagery. I just wish I could rock the bass guitar & drums like they do!!

back then, as a punishment, one would slap someone with the backside of their hand to show superiority. slapping with the palm was an insult to one's own family. if you turn your cheek, you are forcing someone to slap with their palm, thus insulting themselves. people need to understand the languages of the bible in order to be able to judge it, or they are making a fool of themselves.

when people talk about "turning the other cheek", they are thinking of the bible in the languages of today, the problem with this is that there were different language expressions in ancient rome than there are today. the bible has been translated word for word through countless languages. it turns out that "turning the other cheek" was an expression used in ancient times not to show weakness, but rather strength.

Im a Catholic and I think King Diamond is pretty respecting towards most people, and i like that about him. I dont believe he worships the Christian adversary known as Satan, because he stated that violence just for violence's sake makes him sick which is a trait that the Devil promotes. But I like his music because it good and badass! What he calls Satan or God doesnt concern me.

well, Diamond makes it very clear, he does NOT worship the Satan known by christians, he worships an entity (called Satan by him) that represents freedom.
The christian God represents mainly love, and if he can feel love for some people then he is closer to the christian God than to the christian Satan! :D

The Satanic Biblie says that "You Do Not Become a Satanist, You're Born One"; Which is actually the reason why the Satanist doesn't go knocking door by door asking for members. When someone's got that attraction for the ocult like those kids, as it is in fact, it means you might be a Satanist. The bottom line is that all religions are based on opinions. There are over 4500 versions of Christianity. To here both these idiots debate about religion is the same as watching Siskel & Ebert debate about the latest Batman movie.
Neither is right or wrong.
Therefore, being Agnostic as I am, is by far the best method. Listen to both sides, take what you want, form your own opinion.
