there's a difference between the technology industry and financial industry. One drives technology forwards while one produces nothing. Banks and other financial institutions may serve a purpose, but as they are now they are a detriment to society. An economy is supposed to effectively move resources to where they are needed, it fails in that regard.

It's all about financial inequality. The republicans are arguing for a regressive tax code. Democrats are trying to tax the rich 3% more, not "behead the rich" as Edmund Burke on the right suggests. These protesters will be much happier if they brought back the Clinton tax code that WORKED so well in the 90s.

Today's recession is about financial inequality where demand has been starved, while capital skyrockets. @gshooting i'm iffy on the OWS people who are saying we should forgive all debts and education should be free, but frankly, what are the chances anything like that's going to happen anyway? and in any case, that's only one faction of the OWSers. i bet the vast majority of OWSers (and maybe some tea partiers) would sign on to getting excessive corporate money out of politics, reinstating glass-steagall, making sure CEO bonuses are merit-based, etc.
