This game may be almost like a copy of arma 2 but the difference was that it was made by the united states army and is funded by the gov. Also it a bit more realistic by 10% and etc.. What would you expect? Its a war simulator and since its made directly made by the us army of course its going to be better.
I tried this ,.. and play training game .. in Grenade throwing... I got hurt lol ..because I threw the grenade and forgot to duck ^_^ (I have been play this game since AA1.. but stopped playing after AA2 and just play again in AA3 ... just finished download from steam)
guys your comparing 2 different styles of games I like both alot. AA3 is all tatics, MW3 is arcade and is fun too it doesnt take much skill to be good at MW3 but it does in AA3. You can't compare these with each other. I like MW3 for fast pased action and I like AA3 for tatics and realism.

Well firstly, the flashbang wasn't even that close to you, and they are largely ineffective when used outside - they are designed for interior environments. Secondly, if you're using automatic firing with an M4A1 or M16A4 you're going to get a lot of recoil and inaccuracy - especially if you're clicking that rapidly close up. Single firing is a lot more reliable. Also, just tracking your crosshair, it didn't seem like you actually shot at him that well..

@winrawrisyou That's not how crosshairs work. Crosshairs indicates the region where the round would hit, the round can hit anywhere within the crosshairs. If the enemy is outside the crosshairs, there's no way the round would hit. If the enemy is inside the crosshairs, there's a chance the round will hit him. PC crosshairs works differently than console crosshairs, there's no autoaim in PC FPS.
@LiouTao It makes me feel sad that you assume that I play console games primarily, which I have little experience with. I realize there's no auto-aim, but if you sweep a crosshair across an enemy at close range, generally you'll get a hit or a few. I'd expect AA3 to be a high-enough lethality game for that to be a kill.

If you take another close look at the vid, the guy was only within the crosshairs for less than one second, most of the time he was just firing into emptiness. He couldn't control his fire, that's why in the Army they train you to fire in controlled bursts rather than spray.
AA3 is high-lethality, but it generally still takes at least 2 shots to bring someone down. He probably did land 1 and only 1 shot
@LiouTao Spraying almost always works at such a close range. The reason it usually doesn't work is because people are farther away, and by shooting for so long at such a range, people will definitely see and pick you. This *game* isn't the army, whether it's meant to be realistic or not.

The developers programmed the gun fires in the game according to ballistic data, if it's gonna miss in RL, it's gonna miss in game.
To make guns more effective I think that players should be able to repulse enemy melee. Say if you fail to knife someone RIGHT IN THE NECK, then they strong arm you back and you might trip or whatever.
@erickguz123 I try to, but sometimes I tend to combine the two. Reason is because in Chinese, the word 'soldier' （軍人 Junren） goes for all members of the Military regardless of branch. Junren essentially means military personnel. Then we have separate terms for the different branches, when translated literally would be land troop, sea troop, marine, airmen, etc.
"Just like real life" ... In real life, marines would have pulled out the pistol and put a bullet in that man's shiny head. Or at least switched to a knife and slit his throat. You don't hit someone with a gun, that's only a last minute choice if you don't have any bullets left or no knife. In real life, you'd been dead by now lying in a aircraft full of caskets.
@SuzukiAkiraReita In real life marines would still use their rifle. There is no time to pull out a knife and most soldiers and marines are not issued a sidearm. If you've gone through basic training, one of the things they drill you is to melee with your rifle.

If there's "no time" while he reloads to pull out a knife or sidearm then you shouldn't be a marine at all because they're trained to be fast in the first place. However, such one doesn't happen much because marines move-in in groups mostly and death takes only couple bullets in real.
Most soldiers/marines are not issued pistols, they're issued rifles. Their sidearm traditionally is the bayonet. Only certain MOS like tankers are issued pistols.

They are trained under repeated drills where they do the same thing over and over again until they do it as a reaction rather than something they think about. if one is not trained to use a knife when shit goes down, they're not gonna think about the possibility of using their knives when an enemy is trying to wrestle their weapon from them.

America's Army 2+3 is the most down-to-earth games out there and their free. Better deal than spending $60 for essentially a Star Wars game. All we have now are special forces bullshit.

@Hikarilover123 Scarcely anybody thinks that BF3 is an actually realistic game. Additionally, the quality of a game is not the same as its realism. (I agree with the 'special forces' statement, though; I think that FPS developers went from having tons of WW2 games to games set in modern times.)
@Hardcoregamer1992x The crosshair was quite near the enemy towards the end, and, with that tracking and firing, he should have had enough hits to get a kill.

@winrawrisyou That's not how crosshairs work. Crosshairs indicates the region where the round would hit, the round can hit anywhere within the crosshairs. If the enemy is outside the crosshairs, there's no way the round would hit. If the enemy is inside the crosshairs, there's a chance the round will hit him. PC crosshairs works differently than console crosshairs, there's no autoaim in PC FPS.

@LiouTao It makes me feel sad that you assume that I play console games primarily, which I have little experience with. I realize there's no auto-aim, but if you sweep a crosshair across an enemy at close range, generally you'll get a hit or a few. I'd expect AA3 to be a high-enough lethality game for that to be a kill.

@winrawrisyou That's called 'spray and pray', which usually does not work... If you take another close look at the vid, the guy was only within the crosshairs for less than one second, most of the time he was just firing into emptiness. He couldn't control his fire, that's why in the Army they train you to fire in controlled bursts rather than spray.
AA3 is high-lethality, but it generally still takes at least 2 shots to bring someone down. He probably did land 1 and only 1 shot

@LiouTao Spraying almost always works at such a close range. The reason it usually doesn't work is because people are farther away, and by shooting for so long at such a range, people will definitely see and pick you. This *game* isn't the army, whether it's meant to be realistic or not.
You are quite amazingly condescending to assume that the people opposing his views have very little experience with the subject.

@winrawrisyou Spraying does not work in close range either, you can easily lose control of your weapon when going full auto, that is true for both real life and ingame. The developers programmed the gun fires in the game according to ballistic data, if it's gonna miss in RL, it's gonna miss in game.

To make guns more effective I think that players should be able to repulse enemy melee. Say if you fail to knife someone RIGHT IN THE NECK, then they strong arm you back and you might trip or whatever.

@erickguz123 I try to, but sometimes I tend to combine the two. Reason is because in Chinese, the word 'soldier' （軍人 Junren） goes for all members of the Military regardless of branch. Junren essentially means military personnel. Then we have separate terms for the different branches, when translated literally would be land troop, sea troop, marine, airmen, etc.

You don't hit someone with a gun, that's only a last minute choice if you don't have any bullets left or no knife. In real life, you'd been dead by now lying in a aircraft full of caskets.

@SuzukiAkiraReita In real life marines would still use their rifle. There is no time to pull out a knife and most soldiers and marines are not issued a sidearm. If you've gone through basic training, one of the things they drill you is to melee with your rifle.

If there's "no time" while he reloads to pull out a knife or sidearm then you shouldn't be a marine at all because they're trained to be fast in the first place. In a war you don't punch someone in the face, you kill the enemy because it's a life and death situation. However, such one doesn't happen much because marines move-in in groups mostly and death takes only couple bullets in real.

Most soldiers/marines are not issued pistols, they're issued rifles. Their sidearm traditionally is the bayonet. Only certain MOS like tankers are issued pistols.

@SuzukiAkiraReita The Army did not train their soldiers knife combat until a year ago. They were trained in bayonet combat, but the units sent to Iraq and Afghanistan weren't issued bayonets. Many brought their own knives, but they were for use as tools rather than weapons. CQC becomes a problem because if someone grabs their rifle, they dunno what to do. Using their knives never cross their minds because they weren't trained to pull out their knives and stab the enemy.

They are trained under repeated drills where they do the same thing over and over again until they do it as a reaction rather than something they think about. if one is not trained to use a knife when shit goes down, they're not gonna think about the possibility of using their knives when an enemy is trying to wrestle their weapon from them.
