Not many bands today had equal talent and didn't rely on songwriters or the lead of the band to do the work. No, the Beatles' music had profound impact on music and history - they often created and started new styles and techniques in music.

@googajoob7 That's very true. John Lennon looked ill and pale in the late 1970s. I think it was a male form of anorexia that John was experiencing at the time. Yoko put him on a 'macro-biotic diet' which did nothing for his weight. If anything he was drastically underweight.

The lyrics "these days are gone" should have been "those days are gone." The narrator was lamenting how he didn't need people as much in the past. It would have sounded better that way instead. I don't know if the mistake was intentional. There are other similiar "mistakes" in other Beatle songs (such as in Day Tripper and Ticket to Ride).
