looool . 6013 ? are you joking ? this is for toy manufacturing , maybe . use 7018 . much heavyer to start ... but the resulted weld is incomparable stronger .
Okay, I laughed so hard reading your post that I had to call my entire family in to read it too. Thanks for the rolling-on-the-floor belly laughs we all enjoyed!!! We totally agree with you, brother.
You're looking at ratings instead of reality. Most hobby machines are designed for 1/16" rods rated at 35-50 amps. At those settings, duty cycle approaches 40-50%, or roughly 4-5 minutes of welding with 5-6 minutes of cooling. That's often adequate for hobbyists doing occasional projects. These welders also seldom need special electrical wiring, another plus for hobbyists.
Nobody has mentioned anything about Duty Cycle on welders. The cheap Chinese made junk at Harbor freight averages 10% (or less) duty cycle. That means you weld for one minute, and then wait for 9 minutes for the machine to cool down, or your circuit breaker will trip. Not only that, the warmer the machine gets, the more difficult it is to keep that arc going. So if you new guys want to learn how to weld. don't start with a cheap hobby machine. It's not worth the money you think you saved.
We use E7018 in class and i do believe they are the best beaded rods!! Bein a woman in this field is hard and the guys love to joke and kid with me so much i feel like part of the family!!! LOL
WHY THE FUCK would u want to use 6013, there the shitiest rods on the face of the earth, yeah if you can't weld sure buy 500 pounds of em, but if ur ass still can't weld after 500 pounds of 6013 your fuckin hopeless. If you so happen to learn how to weld, buy some good rods like 6011, or 7018. If ur buyin 7018's make sure you don't leave em outside, keep em stored in a VERY DRY PLACE, like a rod oven.
haha, i thought i was feeling a little sick this morning, i've allways been alergic to stupid shit. You just gotta wake up, everybody has opinons and assholes, they both stick but we gotta deal with it. And thats what you need to do deal. OPINION!!! thats my opinion, and thats the way i do things, don;t like it, do it your way and go about the day. I would love to sit here and argue about this stupid fuckin shit, BUT WHO THE FUCK CARES!!!
I've never had any luck using 6013 on AC, I use it on DC reverse; for AC general purpose use 6011, 3/32" for lighter gauge, 1/8" I use for root passes, and 5/32" for intermediate and cap passes on piping etc. When I weld pipe though, I usually use 1/8" 6011 for the root and then 7018 as I think it makes a better product. Besides, it finishes nice and looks pretty! LMAO
@bawldimoreboy im a newby with welders i was givin miller thunderbolt.cc ac/dc with 50ft lead. dc go to 150 and ac go to 225. question is what thickness can i weld with the 150 dc? also on the ac 225 what thickness metal can I weld .
I just bought a 130 amp TIG/ 90 amp arc welder and tried welding with a 1/8" E7018 but the elctrode kept dying out even with the current adjustment all the way up. Is it possible that the 1/8" electorde is too thick for a 90 amp arc welder and that I would be better off using a 3/32" electode?
I hate to ask a stupid question but, do you have the welder set to D.C. amps. I have a little ac (only) welder & it won't "burn" those rods. Those rods(7018) on a D.C. welder leave a nice bead when done correctly
3/32 5/32 or 1/16 thats it and you will have issues on 90amps with 7013 rods
if you want to burn off 1/8 then buy a big welder
i have a 90 amp and have leanred its limits and i stick with that .. next toy iam buing is a MIG 140 which will more then due even for trailer building and repairs and so on .. but of course thats using flux core wire in it ,, the mig welders when using mig wire withthe gas do not penatrate very well compared to the fluxcore wire
this guy doesent know much about welding ....

1/8 6010 is a easy cheap general purpose welding filler metal for a better looking bead and less spatter i recommend a 1/8 7018
