  • That vid was fantastic, I hope to hear the whole story on the Meerschaum at the end of the Exciting News, Updates, and a new pipe smoking Website. You ran out of time and I was feeling bummed that you couldn't get the whole story in there. Thanks for sharing.

    ~Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

Many thanks for sentiments expressed, we will have to pick up one of our next vids with that pipe and finish the story. Most pipes have stories associated with them and this one is no exception. Best regards - Tim

  • The salt treatment! So many pipes being cleaned there! Very good video

  • Hi Ana,

Those are only a few that are being cleaned, the rest are in the oven :)

    Thanks for the comment,

    Tim

  • I enjoy the series and look forward to the coming information. Keep em coming.

  • Hi RT: Many thanks for sentiments expressed. A lot more is in the drainpipe so stay tuned. Best regards, The Count

  • Lights, camera, action! Oops, you forgot the lights!

Just kidding Count. Great vid. I liked your point about how decent pipes can stand up to heavy smoking - they just need cleaning.

In that regard I'm a freak too, but I do most of my cleaning during and immediately after each smoke - on the inside anyway. The outside I touch up when I get to it.

    Keep 'em coming!

  • Hi: Lights are ok on some computers, not on others. I was involved with the thoughts of the moment and didn't turn on the overheads. Oh, well, guess everyone knows what i look like by now anyway. You got my point, and that is what counts. Many thanks for the comments, keep 'em clean, and keep tuning in. All the Best, The Count

  • I was just kidding around. Didn't intend to be rude or critical. Again, great vid as always.

  • Hi: No problem, your point was valid, and since the vid was spontaneous I really didn't think I would be able to capture the energy if I did it again. The fact that the vid lighting appears to be reasonable on Tim's monitor, but is dark on mine I also influenced me to play the odds and let it go as it was. Many thanks. All the Best, The Count

  • nice vid thanks

  • Hi: Glad you liked it. Many thanks. Best regards, The Count

  • Count, wonderful.. I now only really buy old Astley pipes and James Upshall's off their ebay site. I have a great Charatan made Astley's freehand made in the 1950's it's a great smoke. Love you insights ...

    Cheers, Tim

  • Hi Tim: You have great taste, I was just thinking about Upshall's this am. Astley and Upshall are drfinitely top drawer. You have to show some of these gems in a vid. All the Best, The Count

  • Hi Tim: Lapse there, many thanks for the complimts, and I do want to see the Charatan. All the Best, The Count

  • "when the count speaks...we are all silent"

  • Hi Super: Many thanks for the compliments. Don't forget pipephreaks are here for all of you pipe lovers out there. Have a lot more on ther Romance and Lore of the Pipe. Again many thanks for your support. All the Best, The Count

  • What's with old-timers not cleaning their pipes? What was the thought process behind that?

  • That's a good question. Alfred Dunhill in his now very collectible, and very old books, dating far back to the classic eras of pipe smoking, emphasizes the necessity of cleaning the pipe properly and in those days you could take your pipe to a tobacconist and have them cleaned at a very small cost. That said, the well attested phenemenon of the old and maybe not so old timers not cleaning their pipes must, I think, have something to do with manliness. Not being involved with things...

  • ...that would be considered to be effeminate. This phenemenon was encountered from stevedors, dock workers, railroad workers, factory workers, all the way on up to corporate board rooms in the classic eras of pipe smoking. It is part of the lore of the pipe. All the best, The Count

  • Hi, continuing, Connan Doyle, Lin Carter, Sax Rohmer, Seaberry Quinn, all authors who wrote in the classic era of pipe smoking, mentioned characters having "foul briars" again, this underscores the fact that having a foul briar at that time was a mark of manliness. Your question is excellent and has allowed me to bring out a very significant piece of the lore of the romance of the pipe. Many thanks, The Count

  • Man...the good old days, huh?

    Thanks for the great answer.

  • Indeed! Akkk! Many thanks. All the Best, The Count
