Dude it is NOT your design I have been making hobo stoves exactly like it or exactly like from what I can see on your vid and I learned it from a old hobo back in the day. I am 52 and he was a real HOBO riding trains and the like. A lot of hobo stoves had a solid top and you cooked on the hot metal as it kept the soot off the pot and also hid the fire from the Bull and the man (cops). I was a young and homeless and hanging out with the old hobos. Ask any Real Hobo. My handle is "the cricket"
try coghlans fire sticks. its 2 bucks for a pack of twelve 5 or 6 inch long sticks. they're rectangular sticks that burn for 5 or 10 minutes atleast. you can make a teepee of damp kindling and stick a lit fire stick under. it burns with a big flame to dry out and then burn dry or damp kindling
Cool. Great to see people using their gear in "simple" situations. It is too easy to get caught up into thinking we can only show our videos if we do "big things", like building shelters, getting game, etc. Practicing with your kit is what it is all about in my book. The more times we use our skills the more natural they become.
Chris. I am aware of the dangers of petrolium products, But money is tight at the moment for me. So I try to use bulk of secondhand gear. The new gear I do have. Were either gifts or bough by me with saved money. I'll try to look into beeswax soon. But Vasline is $2 for a large case.
We get very little, Because I'm in the lowland valley. the lowest temprature was 20F. it is usually dry and hot in the summer and damp and cool in the winter.
I'm sure you already know this, but for the viewers that don't, it is never really advised to cook in a can. There a certain compounds that can leak out from the can into one's food. Of course, occasional use won't hurt one too badly.
Great videos. I'm 17 and enjoy bushcraft and survival as much as the next guy. Thanks again for the entertaining videos.
I made some short videos for my brother of what I carry in the woods. They refer to a conversation we had on the phone and were really meant only for him, but you can check them out and see what you think.
This is great. It's just like what I use sometimes. I like it because my metal water bottle nests right into it (looks like yours but carries 1 liter - maybe yours is smaller?)...
I have experimented with putting a smaller can lid an inch or so off the bottom, with holes punched in it and held up by a coat hanger wire cross like what you use to hold up your water can. It helps with oxygen flow.

You really didn't had to use multitool to take cotton out of the bottle (flask).

i just think we should try to save the think we love, the woods!
and i no what its like to be broke trust me
just use what works for you at the time i guess, just a thought

@chrissept21 Are you serious? He's burning such a small amount that it would never make a damn difference in the first place.
One cow makes more greenhouse gases in a year than you would ever produce by using vaseline soaked cotton.

There is a very small rewood grove on the southern edge of my property. But I switch off from groves and orchards around my area.

@AZfishrman01 yes. Although brewing some tea. I'm sure is safe, because usually I don't even reach a rolling boil.

thanks

Cloudy weather here, But I like to turn down the brightness on my camera. To show the flames a bit better. I will be building a shelter shortly.
