Thanks to Beddy White getting the Westpoint question wrong, I think I now know what the line "Where even a right answer can catch you in a trap" means. LOL!
This show really didn't have a chance. It was in the same timeslot as Wheel of Fortune and the first half-hour of The Price Is Right which were the top two daytime network game shows at the time.
Sounds to me like Trivia Trap would've lasted longer if ABC had given it a better time slott. Either that, or if it were picked up by either Cbs or Nbc instead!
@DorvellTStewart I remember when Trivia Trap was originally on because it aired at 11:00 am on weekdays, with a fading Family Feud following it at 11:30. When Trivia Trap was canceled in April 1985, ABC replaced it with another equally short-lived game show: the Heatter-produced All-Star Blitz, hosted by Peter Marshall. All three shows were annihilated in the ratings by CBS's The Price is Right, All-Star Blitz especially.
Is this the first show where the "bleep" sound effect was used? They used it on "Family Feud" as the answer reveal in the Fast Money round starting in 1988 and have been doing so ever since.
@bluebear1985 yes, that in addition to the "right answer" sound (when all three wrong ones were out,) which is the theme for the price is right's "grand game" and the rarely heard end of the "family feud" theme.
If I were to list the attributes of Jayne Meadows, Id run out of room. Suffice it to say she is one of the classiest, most lovely, intelligent, interesting, caring and unasumming people ive ever met!!!
"WHO SAID THAT WE WERE TRIVIA BUFFS?" Pretty neat for a game show. The Theme song has a great beat. ABC or GSN Should've kept this show on air, because alot of the shows on tv is not appropriate.
Yep, "Trivia Trap" did indeed originally air on ABC-TV. In fact, "Trivia Trap" was the 2nd-to-last GS Mark Goodson produced for ABC, until 1990 wehn ABC picked up the 1990-91 revival of "Match Game" with Ross Shafer.
I wish GSN would bring this back. This and all the other great older shows. I'm sick of this crap they show now. And I still haven't figured out why they feel the need to have poker when every other channel has it too.
I haven't seen "Trivia Trap" in a long time, but it's a great find. GSN aired "Trivia Trap" for quite some time. It was a short-lived game show. By the way, the sound you hear when you got wrong was the famous trap sound. That was later used on "The Price Is Right" called "Pathfinder" where a contestant stepped the wrong number and made a mistake. That's what that sound still in use today in "Pathfinder".
Bill Cullen was busy working on The Jokers Wild, right? by 1985?

Jayne/Betty had more class in their little fingers then Vickie Lawrence ever had. Dunno but Vickie just always irritated me.

Where's Jayne Meadows today?

From what I heard she had sued the doctor that treated her late husband, Steve Allen for misdiagnoses! He was the first host of the Tonight Show.

Was Trivia Trap the second to last game show Bill Cullen was a celebrity guest on?

I've never seen this show, but I love the theme song! It's not what you'd expect from a game show, which is what makes it unique!

Sounds like the theme to an '80s sitcom, I think! :-)

I love the first season of this show. So 80s. The game is awesome, the theme is awesome and you gotta hand it to Bob Eubanks.

You can tell it was an 80s game show when you saw Betty White, Bill Cullen, and Jamie "Klinger" Farr on a celebrity episode.

You could tell it was an 80s game show even if you only saw the first 15 seconds of it.

Yeah, ABC's game show lineup went to hell after 1978. They just couldn't compete.
Jnelson09Returns 3 years ago
What was wrong with "Family Feud"? 1978 was the first year the show really heated up.
palmercomm 3 years ago
Yeah, but that and the $20,000 Pyramid were the only shows they had.

back in the 70s when he hosted match game. that's a custom microphone. u can adjust the mic how ever u want it 2 be. i like the mic.
lilwill2kold 4 years ago
In the 1st season, Gene wore a clip-on during the main game and carried a mic for the contestant. He later carried his mic all the time.
Same with Ray Combs and Bob Eubanks, although I don't know why.
palmercomm 3 years ago
yup he used that microphone, remember gene rayburn had that microphone but he had his extended.
lilwill2kold 4 years ago
Jim Perry did too, on Card Sharks.
Jnelson09Returns 3 years ago
And I thought Bob BARKER is the only one who uses the mic.

Amazing. In 1984, Mark Goodson had three debuts on "The Big 3". NBC had "Super Password", CBS had "Body Language", and ABC had this! Cool, huh?!

They've brought back the Mark Goodson obscurities "Body Language" and "Child's Play" in recent months, so I wouldn't rule this out.
