I watched this once... and it might have been the weirdest movie i've ever seen. Every 10 minutes I was sasking myself "what the fuck did i just see"?
I love it how all the beasts are all parts of Max' personality. Together as a bunch, in their being, they tell his story, his experience of life and they mirror his struggling reflections. I don't know if the film was even that great, I guess it does its work, but the real brilliance is the script by Jonze and Eggers; the beautiful reinterpretation of the original book into an elaborate but intense story.
Personally for me, the message I got from this movie is that sometimes, you have to fall to rise, if you get my drift. If you watched it, you might get it. God, I hate this movie because it made me cry, something a movie hasn't done to me in 6 years!!! Very twisted movie though, and I believe it could have used a clearer moral and the 1st half could be better interpreted, but I love this movie for being so complex yet artistic!!!
@rockeryears I balled when I watch this movie lol =,< the movie basically summed down not just childhood, but friendship in general: How we put up with other people, how we face problems just in different ways, and how we are all sensitive individuals. Like the bird dude who lost an arm by just being an honest friend to carol, or the goat guy who always tries to say something but nobody pays attention to him.
/p/
And when the minotaur guy *finally* talks, I was like "oh my god I knew it!"
I thought it was a brilliant movie, and I know very few directors that can succesfully combine atmosphere with emotion like this movie does. Its not perfect though; there are a couple of scenes that felt kinda random to me, but people that say this movie is awfull don't really understand the art of filmmaking I believe. Spike Jonze did a great job of turning the kids story into a nostalgic and emotional movie.
better than inception really, its like the editors work is really good, Spike Jonez Jakass inspiration and really good talk scenes, very well wiritting, super efects, its the best direction of 2009, i thing it can as good as tarantino. And is really one of the best Posmodern Films.
the book only has so much plot to it. u cant make a whole movie with a deep meaning about a book wit like 10 sentences or something. it was a good film. super artistic. each wild thing was so unique in its own way, and they lookd amazing. if u wanna criticize it for not being a family movie, dont take ur fuckin kids to see it. if it came out in anothr generation then it was supposed to at least plz that generation and not care about this one. stop hatin ppl, u try making a movie
people who didn't like this movie obviously didn't get what Spike Jonze was trying to with this movie. It's an art film for kids, a movie that goes deep inside the inner turmoils of this child and what it feels like to be a kid. If you felt no emotion for this movie then you seriously had no childhood if you couldn't identify with this. I have never seen a movie then so perfectly captured the emotions and insecurities of childhood
I'm honestly not sure if you're joking. If you're serious, then you are a complete idiot. This movie was awful! It was marketed as a family film and did not deliver at all!!! I've not met single person who liked this movie. FAIL!!!
P.S. Try not to make yourself think bad movies are good in the future.
@hottguy7 All of Spike Jonzes film have something to do with the mind and how it works, see those movies for yourself, it's the same thing here. If this movie doesnt work for you, go back and watch your G.I. Joe and Transformers 2 double feature because this is a movie for people with a brain and heart fool
after the first real world section of the movie, i couldn't stop thinking of this kid as a crazy obnoxious little brat and that it's time to call supernanny. the film was torturous for the rest of the time. it doesn't take a genius to get the symbolism but it's the kind of movie that either makes you want to cry or rip off someone's arm. and people want to see this film again?
lol, the people saying it's ''full of symbolism'' crack me up. It's a fucking kids story, people!
I liked this film okay, but funnily enough, my father liked it a lot more than I did. Usually it's the exact opposite.
The ending actually caused me to weep, so I suppose that's a good sign, however I didn't come out of the theater feeling like anything major had really taken place. Very strange way to leave a theater.
i havent thought about the book until the movie was announced, thats nice of them bringing the memory of our chilhoods to us like that, i dont know what you were expecting from this movie but it was pretty good for such a short book.
wow so fucking true. im sick of these faggots thinking theyre original by copying everything a bunch of homos have already done, this book was sweet.. when i was 4 yeah but common..
this movie is full of symbolism. It's not a movie for everyone. If you are used to junkfood movies, you will likely say it was awfull. Don't follow the masses.
The masses are now hipsters who all wear black rimmed glasses and like the smell of their own farts. If you think you are being unique by pretending to like this movie, you're just like all of the rest of the hipsters. Indy music sucks. This film sucks. And people like you, who think you are rebelling against a crowd while being part of the douche crowd, should shampoo my crotch.
Finally, a film that's enjoyable as a kid's movie but that doesn't pander to them. This film used the book and the Wild Things as metaphors. It was deep, and anyone who thinks it wasn't deep must either have their "deepness" quotient set way too fucking high or must not know what a deep, layered movie looks like. These are probably the same cretins who got a hard-on for the Transformers movie and helped it break the bank.
Movie sucked. Nothing close to the heart of the book, but a distorted ,twisted, angry statement for the director's benefit. Jonze is a music video director, and that's the extent of his abilities. The playful child from the book is portrayed as a angry, rotten little twit that garners NO sympathy. He's a jerk. The creatures are well built, but only giant EMO beings that no one cares about. The children in the theater were bored, and don't get the emotional garbage Jonze attempted to portray.
i could NOT agree more. i was so disappointing i could have cried. it was awful! i first read this in elementary and at 18 i thought i'd enjoy the movie THAT much more. I was pissed. And wtf was with them trying to eat him? that was supposed to be his safe haven, where he went to be with someone who understood him and loved him. NOT TURN HIM INTO DINNER!
fucking hated it, I found myself wanting it to end 45 min. before it did. So fucking boring, pointless and stupid. I was forced to see it because of a class field trip.
i enjoyed the movie. It adds many new yet realistic and natural levels to the original 10 sentence story while still retaining the basic ideas and purpose, although adding many new themes such as mortality and a complete analysis of the childhood psyche. This movie is a thinker, if you dont think about it you're going to find it boring.
i went to go see this movie the first day it came out and i feel asleep in the middle of the movie it was so boring and to much of a crybaby movie :( waste of 8$
itt is not for kids, its a movie for tripy yuppies that let themselves amuse by supid things such as this movie i got the massage and it was not my taste, perhaps cause am not a yuppie
People who didn't like this film must have been expecting something ridiculous like Transformers, or some other mindless garbage. This movie was great.
68% BULLCRAP!!!!!!!!!!! one of the best movies of the year, really different and intrigueing, unlike most cliche and cookiecutter crap that pollutes the theatres!!!! stupid critics
