@Down650 Although the Aikikai may only use white and black belts, The Japan Aikido Association has a kyu grade system with coloured belts. The kyu grades are used to give students goals. Many association of all style of Aikido use coloured belts as only dan grades are registered with the various hombu. Not all associations do this.
