yes I noticed this as well. I'm not sure if that's perhaps a habit he acquired as a kid or if he just found it easier that way when he was younger, but for an overall better technique the wrist has to be used all the time I reckon, which makes sense of why in his later videos he uses a lot more of his wrist.
