  • Im Sirius B

  • I respect his man so much. But may I remind him that I, a 17 year old white kid, have never enslaved anybody! And he has never been enslaved. Please, don't hold me to my murderous ancestors' evils. Hate is an epedimic. It will sweep, and kill a nation.

    '

  • @Iroxit shut up you cunt

  • My gawd... When I first heard this in this movie... I had to stop, rewind, watch, stop, rewind, watch.... and listen, harder, and harder again.... Do yourself a favor, watch the movie, the context which brings this poem, is far more meaningful than the movie itself

  • "I know God personally. In fact, he lets me call him ME. I'm SIRIUS B. ...Trying to imprison my ASTROLOGY. ...Son of Osiris. Worshipped like Jesus." Whoa. Watched this many, many years ago and was blown away. Now, I get it. Thank you, Saul. RA!

  • I forgot was the fuck i was thinking... lol!!!

  • when he says hes saying amethyst rock hes saying that because the ancient romans and greek beleived amethyst rock prevented intoxication so they would make beer mugs n shit out of it. i just thought that was an interesting fact

  • @OrangeSaint420 thats an awesome fact

  • @OrangeSaint420 I think, going with that bit of information you can take it to mean that we're denying ourselves knowledge and education in pursuit of superficial bullshit. Just one, trail of though we could go down. The man is a genius regardless.

  • @OrangeSaint420 I think he meant marijuana when he said 'slangin amethyst rocks'. This is from a movie called SLAM, and he's in prison b/c he got busted with an ounce. He's just mocking a system that is hypocritical.

  • Comment removed

  • @OrangeSaint420 I don't get it, when you drink you wanna get drunk? :DD

  • damm awesome

  • I just saw the movie Slam, and it was epic! so grand :D

  • man that shti was moving..

  • rocks

  • I grew up white - still am- but found i have a line of African American family going back to the revolutionary war. My father's mothers side of the family goes back to Sampson Battis - an African American slave who won his freedom by fighting in the revolutionary war. - he became a general - the first in this country to be in charge of white troops. My father's mother was the first to "pass as white" - I feel most proud of that ghost in my past. Often i wonder how similar or different we are.

  • @StrongHeartLives we're all brothers and sisters on this earth.

  • @StrongHeartLives

yeah... and we're all 1/16 cherokee too.

you are not black or anything close, anything less than 1/16 is statistically negligent.

less than 1/8 is socially irrelevant.

  • @koreybishop blood is the same in every vein..blue as the see inside, and red as the sun set sky over armageddon's crys, I am not white, im human, Saul is not black, he is human, native to any where is a lie, for humanity grows faster than the plague across this globe...stop seeing in color, and realize, the skies will be blue, the oceans too, as is the blood that flows through me and you, until oxygen causes the iron of our bonds to rust, and soul turn to dust under the weight of our miss trust

  • @SolaceOfMushin

thanks for painting such a pretentious picture, if i got a dime every time your lines rhymed, i'd only be fifty cents richer. you'd make sense quicker if you kept your points in mind; in mine, i'm more direct cause i respect the reader's time. motivated and creative, you're an artist, look at you! with your special use of words and all the artsy things you do. do you think we got it? spotted it, jotted it down? tossed you around in our heads? lying for hours awake in our beds?

  • @koreybishop havent been online for a while...so i missed the twisted pissed off shit you spit...im just expressing, and blessing my self with the courage to sing outloud....so if you have problems with the way i sound....TOUGH SHIT...im not pretentious, but obviously you are....mister poetry star, trolling on the truth I write late at night under LCD lights....fuck off bra...and get a life...p.s. i love you....and that was a well written response, as pissy as it was lol

  • @SolaceOfMushin swagg

  • @bigsmoove03 mahalo

  • the fact of the matter is african americans have been socially AND systematically (meaning, sanctioned by government or "systems") oppressed in the U.S since the first Africans were brought to this land in the 17th century. This continues today. Through Jim Crow, followed by Reaganomics, America's largely white ruling class has tragically succeed in limiting the not only the rights, but a development of an entire race of people. sorry, soapbox over. damn, i need to be a sociologist haha.

  • love this and love kima, love the wire

  • We're all slaves - not just black people.

I respect this man Saul for standing tall (as he sees it), but I'm tired of divisive posturing for self-gratification at the expense of others who're forcibly held within the same restrictive confines.

This type of bullshit is limited, regressive, and symbolizes nothing more than masturbatory whining.

    Human Power.

  • @continuityofliberty White privilege doesn't exist, yada yada yada. This "limited, regressive bullshit" is meant to speak to truth to a community that is continually repressed in so many more ways than a white man or woman could imagine. Yes, everyone is "enslaved" somehow- but in different degrees and different ways. You cannot seriously tell me that a black man doesn't have more working against him than a white man. Please.

  • Disproportionatley profitting from something that you've not invested in creating is stealing--yet genius. Therefore, "stealing us" in the abstract sense and "stealing us" in the literal sense "was the smartest thing they ever did". I think I read @labrat420 that you're in Canada. Well, in the states we still deal with race-based stratification (despite what you see on TV). Therefore, we have not reached a place of holding hands and embracing our human similarities--too busy surviving.

  • @labrat420---what I think @KandC1987 is saying is that things in Black culture -despite it's historical acquisition- was appropriated for multi-fasceted reasons. Therefore, in the creation of a new culture certain ideas and symbolisms were appropriated by Blacks and then re-appropriated by white suburban children who remain seperate from the very reasons these symbols exist yet they 'profit' from the pop-culture politics juxtaposing white innocence.

  • @labrat420--Without reading, we accept mythical ideology as axioms to historical reference. If I may recommend for you: -The Atlantic Slave Trade Was Not a Black-on-Black Holocaust- by Lansine' Kaba...this should help clear some things up.

  • @RAofSUN I would also recommend Race Matters by Cornell West for @labrat420. It has a very broad yet simple idea of black culture from black leadership, sexuality, to an insightful comparison of the Black and Jewish culture. Although I don't agree with all of West ideas but its an inspiring bit of text for blacks and whites alike. highly recommended.

  • @labrat420 ---actually, Black-American ancestors DID NOT sell Blacks into trans-Altantic slavery. I am currently working on my PhD in this field and have read countless books demonstrating the contrary. That Blacks sold Blacks into slavery was a perspective created by early 20th century historical anthropologists--fostered by the sociohitorical imagination of under educated racist Americans to justify the inhumane treatment of Black Americans and to maintain a magnanimous international image.

  • Saul Williams is THA TRUTH !

Kinda like the Rudy Ray Moore or Dolemite for our times!!

  • "STEALING US WAS THE SMARTEST THING THEY EVER DID!!" That speaks volumes, and it makes me feel highly valued, we worth somethin' y'all, remember that.

  • @KandC1987 stealing? not quite, your ancestors sold you to us

  • @labrat420 You completely missed my point of the comment. When Saul said "stealing us" it was expressed, in my eyes as an ongoing re occurrence "today", but thanks for the history lesson. The Black race is the most imitated race "they" (white people) want to be just like us. Right down to the saggy pants, backwards hat, O yea and that year round "tan" too. So the next time you tilt your fitted and bust a sag think about why you're doing it, please and thank you : )

  • @KandC1987 nice. ignorance is bliss. First of all i don't dress like that at all and secondly you really think black people invented baggy pants and the sun? great educational system they got down there in the good old u.s. of a.

  • @labrat420 baggy pants came from prison inmates. They sagged their pant 2 show that they were "available", inmates also weren't allowed to wear belts or drawstrings. It was later adopted by the black community then adopted by all others races who thought it was cool, including white people. Secondly, if you don't no, God created the sun. I just wanted to no why do white people tan? One more thing as a Canadian you should probably get rid of that "US is inferior complex" not cool. sounds elitist

  • because black people stole it first it's theirs? .interesting way of thinking. You would have to ask a white person who tans to know, why do black people play basketball, whites played it first. See what this kind of thinking results in? You're just being ignorant, we're all humans and some happen to have same likes and dislikes as other, you generalizing white people like this is the same thing you're ancestors fought so hard to stop. These things are American culture you mention not black

  • @labrat420 They adopted it and "made it their own", it doesn't even mean the same thing outside of prison. we made it a fashion trend, don't you realize that? u generalize blacks playing ball. We play ball simply cuz were good at it. (now that were allowed to play) or did you forget about segregation completely. We can thank Earl Lloyd, Chuck Cooper, HanK DeZonie and Nat Clifton 4 that broken barrier. Do some research on theAABA 2. People like you are too naive to realize racism still exist.

  • @KandC1987 no actually i can tell it exists by reading your generalizations. I know sarcasm doesn't read well but i thought you would be smart enough to get it. bad assumption

  • @labrat420 It's funny how you peg me as an ignorant racist when my initial comment was "STEALING US WAS THE SMARTEST THING THEY EVER DID! That speaks volumes, and it makes me feel highly valued, we worth somethin' y'all, remember that." Yet you refuted the fact that I wanted everyone of color or other to feel good about themselves. People like you spread negativity, so I can tel cultural progression is not on your agenda. Yet and stil this has been a great debate. Good luck opening ya eyes.

  • @KandC1987 i never said anything about people shouldn't feel like their worth something. Simply stated a fact then you went off about how ALL white people steal cultural things from blacks when all you mention is american culture not even african culture. But of course, it's me spreading negativity cause its me generalizing blacks and not you generalizing whites, i must have misread every single one of your comments. my bad.

  • @labrat420 Your naivety is priceless. what you stated was a half truth. U failed to mention that African tribesman that sold their own kind were doing so 2 satisfy European slavers so they wouldn't B enslaved themselves. The people being sold were POW's from other tribes. The tribes that did the selling eventually suffered the "same fate". If what you're saying is Africans are equally responsible then this debate is over. Honestly do your research first then comment. FACTS ONLY!

  • @KandC1987 you know, some people will do anything to preserve the happy little bubble with the happy little thoughts they've fashioned for themselves. i appreciate your comment.

  • @wilde675 thank you and your welcome

  • For those of you wondering amethyst rocks are dmt crystals - some times come out purple.

  • I always liked saul williams. I was sick yesterday and surfing netflix and naturally, with my love of poetry, I had to watch this and I FREAKED out when I saw he was in it

  • its people like this that give me hope for humanity. as it is not only about knowing the truth but feeling it, moving it forward with the intensity that this brother wields, to enrapture the rest of our brothers and sisters, and bring them to a fever pitch over the mistakes, the mistakes that THEY made and WE continue. change has to be coming, if not, then what is this? peace brothers and sisters, and thanks.

  • The movie is called SLAM.

  • I would love to see Saul Williams crash Eminem and Lil Wayne at some rap joint and blow their minds. lol

  • @TheGorgorothSpire Saul is beyond the likes of Eminem and Wayne.......dont dare have them in the same vacinity lol

  • @chillbrotha01 well exactly lol

  • the is from the movie slam

  • what movie is this from?

  • The truth will set you free! In thi...s powerful prose, Saul reveals THEIR true prison and the path to freedom! It is the mind that is held captive. Manipulative, false ideologies, history, casts, constrains and paralysis not only the mind but the self, the soul. This awareness is the first step in understanding one's relationship to the universe. The voice, the lens of art, can be a powerful and transformational force that changes lives...

  • Does anyone else think saul williams is a really read guy?

This poem makes me think of Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn

  • @peyotecoyote92 I read that book and seen this movie. I see no similarity or comparison.

  • Works 4 an Inmate. But being an Ex´d and Exiled I´d say if you want to not be a slave..Learn How 2 Grow Up and Get Up. Your Time is SHort. That is Word... • Black OurStory Month 2011: A Story of Greatness

  • 19 people said "Dis I Like!"

  • i wanna see this whole movie.

    so powerful.

  • "I saw that, if there was a wall of stone between me and my townsmen, there was a still more difficult one to climb or break through before they could get to be as free as I was."

-Henry David Thoreau on being in prison.

  • Greatness!

  • STEALING US WAS THE SMARTEST THING THEY EVER DID!!!!!REAL TALK

  • powerful truth spoken

  • 19 people forgot what the fuck they was doin

  • I thought this scene was amazing. Saul defeated his enemies (or, umm... 2 rival factions; I can't actually remember fully) by warming their hearts with poetry. To warm someones heart with words -- they have to be quite genuine. N it's difficult to tell if this is ironic or in tune -- due to the duality complex. Since the ppl in jail are regarded as the scum of society, although only someone who's genuine of heart can stop, listen, respect and receive something like this. Millions outside wouldnt

  • What movie is this from?

  • I know God personally in fact he let's me call him me!

    Is best line ever!

  • If you guys like this poetic rant than I suggest you guys read The Dead Emcee Scrolls. It tells the story of how he came across this poem... Its really good stuff... He did not write this but that does not take away anything from the poetry of the words.

  • @JazzyTeen32 yes man i have been lookin for that book. i have been tryin to get into freestyle, hip hop, and rap and i heard thats the place to start.

  • @JazzyTeen32 I'm pretty sure he wrote it. I think the way "he found it" is part of the story

  • @Makaveli8806 If you read the introduction of the Dead Emcee Scrolls, Saul Williams says he didn't write this rant. Just because he didn't write it doesn'y mean that he isnt a poet.

  • @JazzyTeen32 You know he infers he didnt write 75% of the Dead Emcee Scrolls, take it as artistic licence.

  • I stand on the corner slinging amethyst rocks!.....

  • A+ for including a Sha-Zaam reference and making it actually sound cool.
