We are still in a political crisis. We had got elections in juin 2010 and we still haven't got a governement. The problem is that the walloon people chose for a left politican party and the flemish people for the right politician party. We have different ideas about the most things in the country. It all began in 1830 when some fool decided to take a part of France and a part of The Netherlands. The only thing we are is a buffer zone between these two countries!
Flanders should be re-united with the Netherlands. Same language and together they will be economical very strong. Flanders will always be Flanders, but re-united with the Netherlands they can profit economical and cultural from each other.

@krugerfuchs Maybe not soon but eventually I think it will happen. I should add that this is mostly a political crisis about state and economic reforms, territorial disputes and, of course, money.. The language tensions (in which both "sides" undertake stupid actions over petty issues) are a result of that, although something like this rarely happens and if it does only ever in a few small towns or villages along the language border. Violence doesn't factor into any of this, only frustration.

@krugerfuchs No, if this country breaks up the Flemish will no doubt create a republic, that has always been the goal. Unification with the Netherlands really isn't on the agenda here. With the Francophones it's not that simple. Generally speaking, the average Walloon might want to join France (mostly out of necessity) but the people from Brussels seem to be far less pro-French. I could see Brussels becoming some kind of European Capitol region, kind of like Washington DC perhaps.
You know that would never work here. First off belgian has very low crime, people there work for there money, notice nobody cares that the goverment isnt spending? This country would fall apart, all the welfare collectors would have a fit if they stopped getting there free checks. We have high crime and lots of forgners who came from lawless countries we could end up like the wild west in a few hours. Americans are not well behaived like most western europeans. It is sad to watch this video, I've enjoyed traveling to Belgium and all over Europe. I didn't realize that all of this was going on. I feel that its great that anyone that can speak more than one language should not be able to work together and combine their cultures and create a unique Belgium culture of their own. In addition, they all know french because it's in their common life (Some films on their channel are in french with Flemish subtitles, they prefer to travel toward south during hollydays, so french is useful) Luxembourg is very proud of his language but use french or german with foreigner. Flemish is no official language!!! We are Flemish, we live in Flanders and we speak Dutch. In school we learn Dutch, the eight biggest laguage in Europe spoken by 22 million people. A middle-sized language. That's more than all Scandinavian languages together. So it is certainly useful to learn that language, certainly when you're a French speaking Belgian, since it's the language spoken by the majority of your own country.

The secondary language taught in Flemish schools is french, atleast for every school in the provinces connected to the walloonian (?what a weird word?) side. German is optional when you reach 13-14 years,
I live in the town they discribed at around 8 minutes, and almost none of it is true. That school DOES let kids in who don't/barely speak dutch. Yesterday were the elections or whatever you can call them, and barely anyone from this town voted for the right wings

@krugerfuchs Maybe not soon but eventually I think it will happen. I should add that this is mostly a political crisis about state and economic reforms, territorial disputes and, of course, money.. The language tensions (in which both "sides" undertake stupid actions over petty issues) are a result of that, although something like this rarely happens and if it does only ever in a few small towns or villages along the language border. Violence doesn't factor into any of this, only frustration.

@krugerfuchs No, if this country breaks up the Flemish will no doubt create a republic, that has always been the goal. Unification with the Netherlands really isn't on the agenda here. With the Francophones it's not that simple. Generally speaking, the average Walloon might want to join France (mostly out of necessity) but the people from Brussels seem to be far less pro-French. I could see Brussels becoming some kind of European Capitol region, kind of like Washington DC perhaps.

You know that would never work here. First off belgian has very low crime, people there work for there money, notice nobody cares that the goverment isnt spending? This country would fall apart, all the welfare collectors would have a fit if they stopped getting there free checks. It is sad to watch this video, I've enjoyed traveling to Belgium and all over Europe. I didn't realize that all of this was going on. I feel that its great that anyone that can speak more than one language should not be able to work together and combine their cultures and create a unique Belgium culture of their own. In addition, they all know french because it's in their common life (Some films on their channel are in french with Flemish subtitles, they prefer to travel toward south during hollydays, so french is useful) Luxembourg is very proud of his language but use french or german with foreigner. Flemish is no official language!!! We are Flemish, we live in Flanders and we speak Dutch. In school we learn Dutch, the eight biggest laguage in Europe spoken by 22 million people. A middle-sized language. That's more than all Scandinavian languages together. So it is certainly useful to learn that language, certainly when you're a French speaking Belgian, since it's the language spoken by the majority of your own country.

That the walloons apologize first for the maltreatment, outward racism towards flemish culture, discrimination of our language and our people, and having us threated as second class citizens since the birth of Belgium. And maybe then there will be a slight chance of staying together.

Wallons are not elistist. Perhaps they should, maybe they wouldn't be in such a situation that requires them to beg for Vlaanderen's money.
I won't defend the wallons, even if I used to be one ( I am German now)
But I think the best thing to do is to split the country. Deprived from extra money, Wallonia will be forced to change its mentality. As for Vlaanderen, they will be able to move forward. Belgium will finally be able to focus on more important matters.

This guy speaking for the Flanders Separatists is one dumb mf :s Flemish are known for their knowledge of foreign languages. We start with French, English and German or Spanish. Most of us still learn languages in further education too. This guy can't even reply in English..I'm ashamed! I'm a separatist to but he starts wining about the Walloons who don't speak dutch whilst his ability to speak French is low too.

in flanders, the first language they teach you in school is dutch, secondary english and then german (optional), in wallon, the french speaking art, the first language they tech in schol is french, secondary english, is assume dutch comes next, but i'm not sure...i just want to point out this says a lot about the wallon respect for flanders...the least you can do is leanr the languages people speak in your OWN country...wallons only want belgium when it suits THEM

In the French speaking part, dutch is not the second language like french is in Flanders... Although some people make the effort to learn more dutch

The secondary language taught in Flemish schools is french, atleast for every school in the provinces connected to the walloonian (?what a weird word?) side. German is optional when you reach 13-14 years,
I live in the town they discribed at around 8 minutes, and almost none of it is true. That school DOES let kids in who don't/barely speak dutch. Yesterday were the elections or whatever you can call them, and barely anyone from this town voted for the right wings
