this man (chuck) was the most dedicated man in death metal, it's a shame that cancer took him away. He was pure, raw but brilliant. This album was, for me, the change in death metal. This man has proven that death metal is not only sceam and speed. But also tegnique and dept.

Even if chuck was still alive, Death was done. The sound of perseverance was the deinate last album. They tried to tour without chuck and that pissed chuck off, so he started a band known as Control Denied. Check them out. Its essentially Death, witha new singer. Chuck is on guitar. Its great stuff

nah, i disagree. their first 2 albums didn't have much meaning in the lyrics. just pointless gore. their later albums had much more meaning in the lyrics. it's like comparing iron maiden's first 2 albums to their later albums. their later albums were more progressive and musical, plus had more meaningful and better lyrics.
@Fluffypopcicle Actually, Leprosy showed early signs of progression in lyrics. Pull The Plug being a good example as compared to Zombie Ritual. Maybe not totally meaningful to Chuck himself (and who am I to say that, really?), but it showed that he was interested in that particular subject of death (easy pun intended). Same can even be said about Leprosy, I think.

Chocolame, when people ask me about DEATH, I recommend the following:
Altering the Future, Spirit Crusher, Voice of the soul, Misanthrope, Crystal Mountain, and Destiny.
It gets them every time :D

Yeah but people may like their older stuff better as I do. Leprosy and Scream Bloody Gore are their best works IMO.

Spiritual Healing and Sound of Perseverance are their best works in my opinion. Leprosy is also awesome.

Spiritual Healing is a pretty underrated album. The title track is one of my favourite Death tunes.

Spiritual Healing has a lot of great tracks on it with some nasty solos.
My favorite album is probably individual thought patterns but all deaths music is pretty much amazing

Scream Bloody Gore is best. Less progressive, less mature and stuff, but still the best.

nah, i disagree. their first 2 albums didn't have much meaning in the lyrics. just pointless gore. their later albums had much more meaning in the lyrics. it's like comparing iron maiden's first 2 albums to their later albums. their later albums were more progressive and musical, plus had more meaningful and better lyrics.

@Fluffypopcicle Actually, Leprosy showed early signs of progression in lyrics. Pull The Plug being a good example as compared to Zombie Ritual. Maybe not totally meaningful to Chuck himself (and who am I to say that, really?), but it showed that he was interested in that particular subject of death (easy pun intended). Same can even be said about Leprosy, I think.

true, but those were early signs which weren't completely progressed. i take a more complete album like symbolic over a slightly undeveloped album lyric-wise like leprosy any day. those are just my opinions though.

Symbolic
Spiritual healing
Indiviudal Though Patterns
Sound of Perseverance
Human/Leprosy/Scream Bloody Gore
those are my favorites, but they still all happen to be amazing in my mind
