English beer all the way! Such distinctive bottles, you could recognise a bottle of St. Peters straight away. Shame they don't fit in to crates when I reuse them for brewing!
@Ch0coDK The LCBO also has many craft breweries in ontario and one of them I like a lot is Black Creek, I liked their stout. Also great lakes brewery makes some good ones.
I've tried the St Peters Winter Ale and really liked it. I love dark beers and winter beers and this both of them. I'll have to try the other offerings from St. Peters. The wytchcraft brewery beers (hobgoblin) seem interesting too.
I'm a big fan of Young's Double Chocolate and Fuller's London Porter, so after watching your video I wanted to taste that Winter Ale. Saw the video yesterday,' found the Winter Ale today in Ottawa (since we don't have it in Quebec) and enjoying it tonight as I'm writing this. What can I say? Man, oh man! Fabulous! I'm a full grain brewer and I wanna brew Ales like that one before I die :) Thanks for the tip and keep posting these videos.
Haven't tried that particular St. Peter's beer yet on the count of that it seems impossiple to get a hold of it here in Sweden, but the St. Peter's Cream Stout is probably the best tasting beer I've ever had. So far, that is!
Yeah, there is a Red Ale kit out there but it isn't the same thing I don't think. Besides doesn't seem available in the US. If you can direct me to it of send me the kit I volunteer to brew it and review the hell out of it!!! Reminds me of my first pint of Dunkel when I was back in high school. I got to put that on my list to brew as well. Kits anyone? Enjoy the videos Craig!
@MrStevensonJack idk good question, probably because if teenagers got a hold of alcohol they would cause havoc! It's bad enough with all the drinking and driving assholes out there. Even with an adult it's a risky thing to give them beer.

Man you all are stupid the best beer is Budweiser the great American lager. if you all knew what real beer tasted like you all wouldn't be drinking this crap that tastes like cough syrup
@DaKhan69 Americans cant make beer dude. Beer should be made by the love of our ancestors as they made it, and as you might know, Americans dont know their ancestors since they left Europe.
I tried St Peters English Ale Organic 4.5% and Young's Double Chocolate Stout the other day and they are definitely not the best beers around, too bitter. Give Innis and Gunn Original a try , Innis and Gunn will blow you away with its complex and amazing flavor. Theres only one Innis and Gunn.
I saw St. Peter's Winter on the shelf and passed it up. Now I wish I hadn't! Their Cream Stout is nice. Big fan of Young's DCS, especially from the keg!
Hi Craig , Paul here from Ireland , thanks again for showing me the light !!!! ive seen it! never again buying commercial dirt again , real beer is the way to go!!! ive been enjoying a lot of English ales lately , and theres no turning back to the dark side again . check out wychwood.com - i tried hobgoblin , its beer with the body similar to Guinness
Just as an interesting point,I've found that the 2nd fermentation stage does indeed take a long time to complete. When I was a young man,I used to make "sparkling" apple jack. I bottled it before it was done fermenting,& it took a whole year to complete. The flavor changed 4 times in that year, before settling in. Not to mention carbonating. The results were worth the wait, but jeez. I wouldn't do it for my beer supply.
I decided to get my brewing started back up after I tried the young's double chocolate stout and a taddy porter. I had never experimented with stouts/porters before and I wasn't a fan of hoppy beer. I just hope I can produce something remotely similar because the taddy's is 4 dollars a bottle here :(

@CraigTube Hey Craigtube, lookout for the st Peters homebrew kits, I got an IPA today, in the UK I'm sure they will be available in the US soon, Love the reviews mate!!

Hi Craig you are a great reviewer just got my first home brew kit coopers lager would like to say you must try YOUNGS LONDON SPECIAL ALE ale it is the best my country has to other
Craig, I don't know if anyone's told you this before but you can get this as a homebrew kit.... Maybe not the exact same beer but still from St Peters brewery. 'Ruby ale' I think it's called.
@CraigTube have you ever tried 'Zatac' from Czech, or 'Leffe' from Belgium? Try those out and tell me again if you still think the English beer is better.
@david292978 Tried zatac + leffe personally I prefer svijany ritir (svetle) and and opat harold for dark lagers... in the czech rep, amongst others. Yeah british beer hold their own compared to these...; fullers 1845 porter golden pride et cetra anything from that brewery. old peculiar spitfire etc. Relatively speaking the best beer is mostly full and in your hand. Try a few more before deciding.
Hey Craig, have you ever tried Sierra Nevada's "Bigfoot"? Just picked up a few bottles the other day from the local wine/liquor store. Man.. it's 11% alc, real hoppy. And boy is that a great beer to drink by the fire. Was just seeing your opinion on it if you've tried it. Going to pick up some more for sure!
@XtcRaver420 So far, I haven't noticed any Sierra Nevada in my booze store. I brewed a Sierra Nevada clone which I did a review on, and it's being posted in a couple of days.
If your ever in Spain or France try Fisher's Adlescott (hint of malt Whiskey) best damn beer I've ever tasted, they don't sale it here in the states. I will give St. Pete's a try. If I can find it down the South Eastern US ?
Try an Okocim porter, I have tried hundreds from everywhere around the world, I dare anyone to find a better beer! It is pure perfection. The Polish have pure water and thus most Polish beers are awesome. But the best is Okocim porter!
Craig, if you like English Ale then you gotta try 'Spitfire' & 'Bishop's Finger' (Both from the Shepherd Neame Brewery) I'm sure you can get it in the States (Or Canada if you're from there)
I completely by chance bought a pint bottle of St. Peter's Porter on my 21st birthday because the bottles looked so homely they had to be good. I'll be damned if I wasn't right, one of the best brewers I've ever sampled.
Craig. I disagree about single vs double. If you keep your beer in the secondary too long, you have two options: 1) You should keep it in long enough corresponding to the amount of sugar or how HIGH the initial specific gravity is. (trial and error) or... 2) You can pitch more yeast into your beer a day or two before you add your priming sugar and bottle it. Secondary stage is DEFINITELY recommended if you use extract or all-grain. (I'm not sure about CANNED kits).
I have been watching your videos for a while now and you just got 10 million cool points for loving the youngs double chocolate also my favorite. Keep on homebrewing
Craig, I have a question for you. It's kind of a test to see how much you know. I brewed a beer(Imperial Stout). It's been in the bottles for about 2-3 weeks. When I pour it, it develops a head AFTER the pour, instead of developing a head DURING the pour. If you drank a Guinness, the head develops kind of like a Guinness. If you know the reason, MAYBE I'll send you one. :-)
@tophu1021 I'll do my best. Often with these darker beers, the bubbles stay trapped down in the beer longer. As they slowly rise to the top, they separate from the beer to form the head. Did I win? :)
I myself am a fan of chocolate stout...if you have the chance, grab a Rogue Chocolate Stout. It is better, in my opinion than the Young's...Rogue is fabulous.....
im from Suffolk, England, the county where St. Peters is based, and i have to agree, what a beer! iv also noticed that here they do the 'Ruby red' beer as a home brew kit!! so once iv mastered making beer i'll have to try it.
thanks for the great video's, without them id never have started brewing myself
i gathered everyone around when you started to tatse that beer man,.. "AAARRRAHH!!" haha deadly,! what a friggin laugh we had at that man.. the ending was pretty creative too haha once again., loved watching this.
It is possible to brew beer like this, but you would need to go all grain! I make beer which is better than I can find in even the good pubs around me. St Peters do make a good line of beer though.
As an aside their bottle design was based on a bottle that was discovered in the wall of the brewery when they where renovating it.
I live in west London, England and this Winter Ale is not widely available here. You certainly can't go to supermarkets and pick it up. I travelled 3 miles to what claims to be the best off licence in London (Hanwell in borough of Ealing) and they did have it there. I tried it (3 bottles) and it is great!
You made this look so good, I went out looking for this beer. I have only tried 2 LCCBO's so far and have only found their Organic Ale. I bought one and will try it this weekend.
Classic Craig oooooooooohrrghhh after tasting at 3:33 ;) At 4:04 , Craig Falls In Love ha! At 5:54 Craig says he's saving beer for when he has his "pipe" ...i know what he means, but for those who don't --this has to be hilarious!! lmfao and finally at 12:30 craig has a " chocalate halucination" ... great video craig ;)
You hit the nail on the head there Craig when you said 'what real beer should taste like'. I think that's why a lot of people don't like homebrew, because they aren't aware of what real beers are suppose to taste like.
Let's let someone who uses the no rinse sanitizers jump in on that topic. As far as the spout, you can get them at any home brew store, or over at the High Gravity site. Click on the link in the more info area to buy it, so I get a small kick. Cheers.
order made and i got an 8oz thing of starsan along with an autosyphon some caps and a bit of tubing for the siphon since i dont know what size mine is :p
it'll save me having to unhitch the racking cane tube to attach the filler. :) and i used your link.
Young's Double Chocolate Stout is one of my favourites too! Unfortunately beer price in Sweden is even more ridiculous than in Canada. So you can't have it too often :(
Hi Craig, great video. Your video just solved a problem for me. I just made my first batch and it's okay but not great. The beer looks good but its a little to yeasty with an after taste that reminds me of vegemite. I have just started home brew and have gone straight into kegging. I did not know about the importance of 2nd stage fermentation when kegging. Could you however just use another plastic fermenting bucket instead of a carboy for the 2nd stage? Thanks in advance.
Some people just leave it in the primary for two weeks, then keg. I think I'd rather do that then move it to another bucket letting in all that oxygen that will sit in the airspace at the top.
Hey Craig--the beer sure "sounded" good. It's a shame I live in Pennsylvania, where Prohibition still rages and beer selection basically stinks.
RE your thoughts on Single/Dual fermentation. I've moved to kegging and I just single stage for two weeks. Pretty much clears things out. I have a cream ale on tap that is fabulous, and clear as a bell. I might dual stage if I ever get around to brewing lagers, but with so many great ales to do.......
I just had the 'English Ale' they didn't have the winter ale.
It was the BEST bottled beer that I've had.
I think this beats out the Cameron's as far as well roundedness and quality of flavor.
Of course it's way out of my price range but wow it's AMAZING beer and a benchmark when making beer. Whenever I make a standard ale, I will compare it to this as the benchmark.
Hi Craig. NIce beers. Shame I can't seem to find them in Australia, I would love to try them out. So when are you going to keg your beer? You will never look back to bottling once you do. Love the ending. I have done a bit of cloning using vegas. Maybe you should do a tutorial on cloning with Vegas? Check out my channel for some of the ones i have done. Cheers
Thanks for the taste test, I think I'll swing by the LCBO and see if they have any St.Peters before I head over to my buddies tonight. How do you prefer that beer served ? chilled or warm?
Very good video Craig, very warm and comforting and don't forget cozy, you have me sold on trying those beers if I can find, don't think they sell them in eastern Canada, but they might. Hilarious ending see you soon,Later
Hey Craig, great vid I to like the young's double chocolate stout but it's not on my best beer list. I planning on making a clone of young but with a few change. I would like to see it dryer and more hop notes...going to look for the St. Peter winter ale next. Anyways I'm a all grain brewer and also keg. I never in a rush to keg my beer so I do only single stage I just let it sit until it clears take about 3 weeks or so and had no off flavor.
I got scared when you said "OOOORR". I tought there is a pirate in my room coming to kill me :D . Great vid again, loved your guest. I can`t wait for some new brewing videos. I think EBOWARRIOR ides of CraigFest is great. It really would be fun.
Now that you have started kegging, do you still feel a secondary fermentation is a necessity for kegging?

Craig, if you like English Ale then you gotta try 'Spitfire' & 'Bishop's Finger' (Both from the Shepherd Neame Brewery) I'm sure you can get it in the States (Or Canada if you're from there)

Ah yes, good old St. Peter's. They are a local brewery to me. Their Cream Stout is the real contender for best beer in the world, though.

@Borbuster Ah yes, I've had that. It's a real treat too.

tophu1021 1 year ago
@tophu1021 I'll do my best. Often with these darker beers, the bubbles stay trapped down in the beer longer. As they slowly rise to the top, they separate from the beer to form the head. Did I win? :)

I myself am a fan of chocolate stout...if you have the chance, grab a Rogue Chocolate Stout. It is better, in my opinion than the Young's...Rogue is fabulous.....

Found and tried some St Peters Cream Stout, not super great in my opinion, but still a decent beer, want to try the Winter Ale some day though.
I also tried the Double Chocolate stout and really liked it. Always wanted to try it, but your video made me go buy it.

Hey Graig, Just started the first brew today! :)
im from Suffolk, England, the county where St.

"AAARRRAHH!!" haha deadly,! what a friggin laugh we had at that man.. the ending was pretty creative too haha once again., loved watching this.
frequencydude 1 year ago

Thanks Craig!

Craig,
Whilst in Arhus Denmark, I had Young's Double Chocolate Stout on tap. What a beautiful beer! If you like it in the bottle, you will love it on tap!
If you ever have a chance, try a couple porters from here in NZ. Harrington's Wobbly Boot, and Tuatara's Porter. Lovely beers m8!

You hit the nail on the head there Craig when you said 'what real beer should taste like'. I think that's why a lot of people don't like homebrew, because they aren't aware of what real beers are suppose to taste like.
Cheers!

Sigh i broke my bottling buckets spout tip clean off :(
at this rate i'm never going to get a good video out.
i had to siphon fill the bottles from the bottling bucket do to no tip on spout and i ended up with 2 2Ltr extra thanks to my over fill
Brewd fine tho took a little tast itl be a great light mildly sweet light light hops me think me likes.
Any tips on a replacement spout? or am i going to end up buying a whole bucket
PS could you give some feed back on one step and B-T-F Iodophor
Zagroseckt 2 years ago
Let's let someone who uses the no rinse sanitizers jump in on that topic. As far as the spout, you can get them at any home brew store, or over at the High Gravity site. Click on the link in the more info area to buy it, so I get a small kick. Cheers.
CraigTube 2 years ago
order made and i got an 8oz thing of starsan along with an autosyphon some caps and a bit of tubing for the siphon since i dont know what size mine is :p
it'll save me having to unhitch the racking cane tube to attach the filler. :) and i used your link.

Question 1 If I use brewers yeast will I get a different taste maybe less yeastie taste?
Thanks

tgtshirts1 2 years ago
Hi Craig, great video. Your video just solved a problem for me. I just made my first batch and it's okay but not great. The beer looks good but its a little to yeasty with an after taste that reminds me of vegemite. I have just started home brew and have gone straight into kegging. I did not know about the importance of 2nd stage fermentation when kegging. Could you however just use another plastic fermenting bucket instead of a carboy for the 2nd stage? Thanks in advance.
vk4jo 2 years ago
Some people just leave it in the primary for two weeks, then keg. I think I'd rather do that then move it to another bucket letting in all that oxygen that will sit in the airspace at the top.
CraigTube 2 years ago
Hey Craig--the beer sure "sounded" good. It's a shame I live in Pennsylvania, where Prohibition still rages and beer selection basically stinks.
RE your thoughts on Single/Dual fermentation. I've moved to kegging and I just single stage for two weeks. Pretty much clears things out. I have a cream ale on tap that is fabulous, and clear as a bell. I might dual stage if I ever get around to brewing lagers, but with so many great ales to do.......
jturie 2 years ago
Do you use any irish moss?
ACTeslaMachineDC 1 year ago
Always, even with dark beers. Cheap addition and very effective.
jturie 1 year ago

Cheers
