Sometimes you have to take time to find new ideas. If you don't travel a lot then it is hard to find local shots to take. Some of the U tube videos that get a lot of views are really just junk video.
Part of it can be because you only have so much interest to go around and when somebody stops making videos for a while you naturally find another person to fill in the vacant slot. By the time the person comes back their topics seem outdated from your current interest base and doesn't fit.
For the goals intended, I would say that making boring or silly videos is more effective, but I really don't know and I think that would be a good topic for an empirical study.
Yea, well, it's entertainment and it has it's own nature. If an entertainer doesn't show up on the scene the viewers will go looking for their entertainment somewhere else, and when they do, their attention can be largely seduced by something else. Maybe it's one of the Steven King's success-secrets. He always has his fans satisfied with something new.
Most of the time I can't stand the really popular YTubers. Their personalities come on so strong that it makes me feel like they are in the room with me invading my space. I don't lock my door and shut my blinds so I can get online and be around people.

I loved Tony's older videos. He had some funny stuff, but his videos are less appealing now.
