  • HE IS THE BEAST!!!

  • 220, can you say, john bonham, except not as fast as bonham

  • excuse my language... this is fucking sick. 0:45 makes me want to cry. Listen close for the gasp from the crowd.... this is drum solo today

  • my jaw dropped.

  • what a snare!

  • This is exactly how I would LOVE to be able to play. I don't know if there's enough practice time left in my life! Wow!!

  • I WANT THE T-SHIRT!!! :)

  • 3:14 to 3:22 is extra ridiculous

  • I was also there at Hanford High School watching my wifes niece play sax. He was simply amazing!

  • We just had the pleasure of listening to and meeting Derico on November 16th, 2010. He was giving a clinic at Hanford High School in Richland, WA. What an amazing drummer he is...plus a wonderful young man. Tonight he shared that he was diagnosed with MS 10 years ago...through his love of God and music..he is still going strong today. Such an honor to meet you Derico! God Bless You and thanks for sharing your knowledge with our kids.

  • Man, those drums sound flipping amazing...wow.

  • pumped up "Crazy Army" by steve gadd in the beginning. very slick~

  • Yo thats my cuzzin... just think, he started off playing on pots and pans and Quacker oatmeal boxes!!! Love You.. AT THIS PRESENT TIME HE HAS LOANED ME THIS EXACT SAME KIT.. BUT IT IN THE COLOR RED... TO SEE PICS. GO TO FACEBOOK.COM.. SEARCH JOEY DAWKINS TAKE A LOOK... ONE LOVE DWATTS!

  • these drums sound amazing...

  • sick drumming

  • i want his shirt

  • now, if its not too much trouble maybe you could develope some dynamics in your play........ lol

  • This is the first time I have seen this guy play and all I can say is WOWZA! Incredible.

  • inspiring indeed! Derico you rip brother

  • fantastico!

  • dam rite

  • hello right foot

  • Very nice, i like his style

  • AMAZING!!.Saw him at Catalina's Bar and Grill with Victor Wooten...INCREDIBLE!!...Love him!

  • You've got some quick limbs my man. Tasteful, relaxed, and inspiring. Thank you.

  • 10 satars...wow...really nice...enjoyed :D

  • He is a great drummer not legend anyway .

  • Papa jo anybody? beautiful technique. so relaxed

  • Great Chops, Kick ass SNARE!

  • saw him live last night at a drum clinic

  • I need to get a shirt like his! Amazing player

  • i hope thats meant as a joke...lol

  • haha

  • amazing control

  • my good friend played in victor wooten's bass camp thing... and derico was playing with wooten at the time.. haha they called him the "one footed wonder"... this fool is amazing

  • Fucking gospel drummers holy shit lmao

  • awsome, nice feeling and groove.

  • damn does this guy have a double pedal or is it just a single? either way the man is fucken amazing!!

  • he uses a single pedal. he says that there really isnt a need to use a double unless your doing like some speed metal or something. plus, he hates how far over the hi htat is pushed when you have a dobule pedal. his single foot is extremely fast!!!

  • yeah i totally agree with the pushing of the hi hat, I hate how having a double does that. I DO have a double, but i started putting the other pedal on the outside of my hi hat pedal, and it works well. I actually dont ever really use it unless im doing a metal groove or quads for a fill or something.

  • yeah, i know a couple cats that play like that. first guy i ever saw do that was billy ward. i just think i will stick with single pedal. ; D

  • @bdrums777

John bonham said in a ocation, " Why i gonna need doble pedal ? "

  • I asked him that, he uses a single.

I was like how the,,,he said he just stays relaxed.

    Really cool guy.

  • Great drummer!!!

  • Fuckin animal on a kit.

  • yeah black people got THE feel

  • Just why get stucked in `the whole´ Dennis Chambers pocket? Nice , but less interesting because of the similarity!

  • Wow, he really found the pocket once he started loosening up.

  • vERY SKILLED drummer for sure-his influences are obvious to me: Billy Cobham, Steve Gadd, Ndugu(funky right foot patterns) and D.Chambers.Of course D. Watson took them up a notch with his own innovative style mixed in.

  • The next dennis chambers?? Come on dude...this guy is a beast by himself. Why the need to compare him to Dennis? I agree that Dennis is one of the best drummers on the world, but he is not the only one...

  • I agree with evilivan. For Derico to get to the same level as Dennis, he will have to take a backwards step!

  • This guy plays with Victor Wooten. He has to be something special.

  • The next Dennis Chambers

  • 2:25 onwards....sick...

  • ... I can sense a bit of Dennis Chambers in the bag of tricks

  • Hell yes

  • i just love taht ULTRA-CLEAR fill at 1:37!

  • his single pedal is so amazing

  • dude this guy is freakin awesome!

  • I am not pre-occupied with who he may or may not sound like.... I just thought this was lovely playing.

  • I'm friends with a guy who's friends with this guy

  • picking up some steve gadd in the opening shuffle

  • Me too!! 50 Ways!

  • yeah give my comment a thumbs up then cause obviously someone disagrees with it....hahaha who gave me a thumbs down. its clearly 50 ways steve gadd in the beginning

  • love a drummer with dynamics...reckon dynamics are one of the most important things in drummin ay

  • his style is similar to benny grebs, think he was prob greatly inluenced by him

  • Is similar in some parts, you're right, but i think is more similar to John Blackwell. Is just a personal apreciation.

  • loving the shirt

  • so tight and funky !

    This guy is amazing !

  • I was der dat day but missed hos set kmt :(

  • Is it just me or do I hear some other Music in the background like a singing group? Anyway I have to add this blessed man to my favorite drummers list. And its mostly the Gospel and Jazz influenced drummers who are the best for my taste

  • however still a little too gospel for my taste

  • its like a cross between steve gadd and keith carlock with the chops of dennis chambers

    perty cool drummer

  • fuckin drummer from another planet.

  • It's like he's struggling to play a groove????

  • grooveboi78:

I agree, he does a few cool things, but once he gets a groove going he goes off on another tangent. Kinda breaks up the flow. Maybe if we could hear the music in the background.

  • Well if you battled with MS since you were 24 you might struggle sometime too. Even with that he's 10 times better than the next guy you know with a humbling personality to compliment it. Rico plays like Rico...he studies everyone and uses the best techniques and incorporates it to his own style.

  • Derico's crazy man. Defeintly felt like i was watching Papa Joe

  • is it just me or does the very beginning of this vid sort of sound like Steve Gadd's "Crazy Army?" am i alone on this? either way, Derico is nuts, and definitely a drummer from another mother

  • its 50 ways to leave your lover the begining

  • My bad i meant, I wish Derico would post a video on bass drum technique, because he's a beast

  • Rico's "technique" is not that much different than yours or mine it's what he worked on to developed that speed one was to play a groove consisting of 8th's on the HH, 2&4 on snare, then the kick plays 1-12-123-1234-12345-1234-123-12-11then a 1 bar fill then gradually pick up the tempo.

i got that when I use to live in Nashville and hang with Derico

  • What do you mean by 1- 12-123 etc... ? Could you explain please ? Thanx

  • I widh he did a video on single bass drum technique, beacause its beastly

  • Is he playing with just one kick pedal??????

  • he did at the victor wooten concerts i saw.

  • yeah he was nice enough to show me the pedal after the show in pittsburgh.very nice guy and very open about technique

  • yer, on the crazy fills its just a six stroke roll sped up massively, and instead of hitting a drum on the last beat he hits the kick drum

  • 1:22, NICE!!

  • I think I'm gonna be sick! Good lawd!!!!

  • oh yeah baby rockin the premier =] i love that shirt!!

  • Derico Rules!!! His drumming is AWESME!!! i love Him!!...his groove, his t-shirt...

  • Derico Rules !!!

  • funny tshirt

  • He could probably slaughter alot of metal drummers!

  • I'm with you dude, ... this drummer is has some serious funky beats and crazy things!

  • So could Buddy rich, who cares metal is a lot different.

I listen to metal and this guy KILLS, so I like hearing other than just metal.

  • I don't only listen to metal drumming. It was just a random statement. Another thing most metal drummers play things like jazz, funk, latin and other various styles.

  • probably? yea right! he DESTROYS all of them! and this is coming from a metal drummer. metal dudes need to get their head of out their asses!

  • meh, a genre doesnt really make the drummer, its what a drummer puts into it, guys like George Kollias, Thomas Haake, Derek Roddy, and Danny Carey are examples of excellent metal drummers and drummers like Gavin Harrison, Jojo Mayer, Dave Weckl, Buddy Rich, Tony Royster, and Thomas Lang are all also great, of course none of them are going to be as good as what the other does, thats not necessarily the style they play for a living. But an excellent drummer can play most spectrums of styles

  • Very well put.

  • DUDE!!!

Respect for this guys right here!!

    5 stars

  • Possibly one of the most inspirational guys i have ever spoken to. Awesome drummer!!

  • Amazing drummer so glad could see him there and meet him :D

  • NICE ! thanks for posting !
