@Bishopx97 I'd say no, because you have many options in pistols with 9mm, 380, 40 etc. While it is better than a standard 22 in muzzle velocity, a 22 mag is still a small rd. It's just not a good choice too me. Just my opinion though.
I deer hunt with the cci hollowpoint. I shoot them in the head, but i beleive they would kill with with a behind the shoulder shot as long as you're inside of 150 yds.
@slingblade1977 You need to watch 22LR LETHALITY - 300 Yard Ballistics Test.
And that is just a .22 lr. I think with no wind and a 40 gr jhp, I wouldnt be afraid to push out past 220 yds. with everything being perfect. But, one problem, when the bullet becomes subsonic, the spiral isnt so great and sheds alot of velocity fast. Your 4" kill zone just became 1/4" because of this. It groups around 5" or so and wind is hell on them. But yes, very possible.
nashi55. i have a winchester pump 22 mag. and i have used both cci and remington. and hornady works the best for me. but as you probably know each gun shoots each ammunition differantly. so best thing to do with any gun is try multiple ammunitons and see wich works best for you!!
Anyone a reloader here would thier be a way to take a 22 magnum shell case and but a 223 bullet head on it and be fired out of a 22 type rifle or 223 .would it work to have a rimfire case with a 223 head on it,I'm crazy I can only dream about weird things like this when the caliber almost the same and what you might can do with them.

@jakeblack1982 OH, also note, with that small of a difference in diameter. I would assume there would be major leading in the barrel as your bullet is going to float and slap down the barrel instead of being pushed down the barrel. There wouldnt be a very good gas seal and your ballistics and velocity would be horrible and take a major toll over a short time on your barrel. That is just my thought. Maybe im wrong, but doubtful.
@jakeblack1982 I really couldnt tell ya as I dont reload. I dont know the exact length of the .223 bullet compared to the exact length of the 22 mag. bullet. If the .223 bullet is to long, you wouldnt get enough powder to send the bullet out of the barrel from seating to deep. Now I would like to see a varmentor 22-250 40 gr round on a 22 mag cartrige and fill the cartrige totally with powder. I bet that one would reach out with some umph.
Well I was thinking a AR15 in 223 can stand the pressure of the 22 magnum and the 223 is a 22,They have kits to change the bolt to 22 lr so why have they not tried to make a 22 magnum kit which would be cool for AR15 to get around hunting regs in stupid states like mine where I can still have stopping power but have 1 rifle to hunt with for any season.
@jakeblack1982 The .22 mag runs at 24,000 psi chamber pressure. .223 caliber runs at 55,000 psi. So in that aspect, yes, possible. The .223 is not a .22, it is a .22 caliber as it retains the .224 bullet diameter such as the 22 mag.. .22 LR and .22 Mag are different in sizes. .22 lr bullet is .222" diameter and the .22 mag bullet is .224" diameter. That kit would have to be more then a bolt change as you would need to bring the cartrige down from a .223 to a .22lr or magnum.
Ok question can you take a stander AR15 223 and shoot 22mag with it, I'm not talking about the stander 22 long,I live in a state that you can only use rim fire in small game season for hunting hog on WMA's but love the AR15 to hunt with.
@jakeblack1982 I haven't heard of an AR style rifle that takes 22 mags...perhaps it's out there. There are several for 22 lr as you mentioned. The rds are not interchangable so you'll need to find another option - perhaps a bolt action 22 mag?
i have a 22 magnum winchester and have found that the cci ammo works great with it on my 100 range...... by far the most accuarte ammuntion iu have used so far for that paticular rifle
a box of cci 22 mag is 18.00 euro a box and the rem are 26 euro a box .a lot of cash 2 b sending down the barrel ,so i think cheap ammo is the order of the day
@ghinhau Okay. I'm no expert, but keep in mind 22 may not be legal for certain types of game. I'd suggest you check the regs where you live just to be safe. If it's small game - you should be fine with .22. I know those 22 mags will do some damage...
can you use this ammo in a single six revolver? its says "WIN .22 RF MAG. CAL" on the side, i been using .22lr for the longest and been wondering about the magnum ammo that you have here
@faffaflunkie Thanks for the heads up, i been safe though by luck, turns out the revolver came with two cylinders, one for .22 mags and another for .22 lr's. The cylinder thats been in the gun for as long as i been shooting it is the .22 lr's, i asked around the ranch to see if anybody knows if the magnum cylinder is put away somewhere but my uncles say nope thats the only one they recall using for that gun.
@bigspe3dy I've never heard of a revolver coming standard with two cylinders although it might have been an option for extra cost. No matter, the performance difference between the LR and the MAG in a pistol is only about 50 fps due to the extremely slow burn rate of the powder. Save your dough and just buy the "brick" ammo. The .22 is just as much fun to shoot as a .44.
A much under-appreciated caliber in the U.S. This round has an almost AK-47 velocity out of a 16 in. rifle. I much prefer this caliber to the overpowered Remington 5.56/.223.
@faffaflunkie that doesnt mean it has the same stopping power, the velocity is just how fast its traveling, stopping power is measured by foot pounds of muzzle energy. i like the .22 magnum and the .223, but they're both alot closer to underpowered than overpowered.
i love my 22 mag. im shooting winchester supremes with 30 grain JHP and fly great. dead on at 25 inch high at 50 and 3 inchs high at 100. love it for squirrel hunting. my uncle loves the CCI
@mike12703 Never tried that, but I'd think they would be fine. They make a huge hole when you shoot an old phone book. They don't go through, but half way the paper is torn up about the size of my hand.
@mike12703 Yep, same here. My dad & I used to shoot them too. His Marlin 22lr would go through usually and my Savage 22 Mag wouldn't. Quite a difference.
@whatuwantmom No I wouldn't do that. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I don't know of any rifles that can handle both. The length difference and pressures are quite different.
no first of all, they are much longer. Also the bullets and cases are slightly different diameter. The 22 mag is a standard .224 bullet that is seated inside the case The 22lr uses a healed bullet that fits on top of the case rather than in it. Finally, the 22 mag is loaded to a much higher pressure than the 22lr You cannot use a 22lr in a 22 mag also because of the different sized cases You will likely burst the case necks You can however shoot 22 short, 22 long and 22lr out of a 22 long rifle
Would this be good for coyotes?
