Hey, heads up folks. I loved this as a kid, but I'm looking at the credits now and the chief animator is Takashi Abe. That's right, Battleship Yamato anyone? Even the intro music sounds the same. BE FOREVER AMERICAN RABBIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Huh. So this is the American Rabbit. I recall seeing a part of this before on TV when I was a kid. Being high-functioning autistic myself, I've wondered how I was so lucky as to NOT end up like Chris-Chan and perhaps this is it. Had I sat through the entirety of this cartoon I very well may have become a criminally insane manchild like CWC!
Just found this by searching wikipedia on "List of anthropomorphic animal superheroes" and seeing this cartoon I just had to check out a few videos and I like it I don't think this was ever aired outside the USA so this is my first view of this cartoon.
Wow.. I was on wikipedia browsing the list of animated films, saw 'Adventures of the American Rabbit' and I was like.. that.. sounds.. familiar. Sure enough I come here and I remember this intro. I musta seen this when I was like... 3 or 4 years old? I don't even know..
Oh Shit! I just noticed in the credits that the music was performed by Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan, better known as Flo and Eddie, former lead singers of The Turtles ("Happy Together") and, for a brief period in the early seventies, Frank Zappa's lead singers. (Also, they sang backup on T-Rex's "Bang a Gong.")
With a musical legacy like that, it surprises me that they agreed to do the music for this crapass movie.
The movie IS on DVD, MGM put it out several years ago. You probably won't find it on store shelves, but you will definitely find it for sale on Amazon and elsewhere online.
Wow, YouTube REALLY has everything! I can't believe this, total shock. I never ever had the chance to see the second half of the film, and Now I Can! :-D
I watched the Finnish dubbed version "Jenkki-jänis" as a kid a lot in the late 80's...running all over the house imagining to turn into him and stuff :D
we used to watch this movie at p.s.11 in brooklyn on rainy days when we couldnt go outside to play. this land before time, and moonwalker ..and we never got to see how it would end. the period was only 45min
Has anyone seen a chapter where the rabbit sticks out his tongue through the window ? I know I'm not saying too much but I was very little and that's the only thing I remember...
Good grief... I was thinking about this movie last night for some reason. I think my taped from tv VHS won't even produce picture anymore, I wore it out :).
I remember recording this on tape as a kid. I still have it! I love this movie! To me, it's like a rabbit version of superman. I wonder if it's on DVD? Hhmmm...
Opening theme has a few bars from the Superman movie theme, kinda. BTW, damn, I remember this movie. It was very interesting. I liked it, though missed a good chunk of it. Now I can watch the whole thing, thanks
I saw this in elementary at the theatre in the field trip for my whole school for good behavior... I thought it was such a sweet movie! I thought I'd never see it again!

The irony is that, as a rabbit, The American Rabbit has no rights.

even the theme music is partially ripped off of superman. I can see how the plagiarism appealed to ol' CWC...
