If not, then you have added some more ability to break down a problem and solve it to your arsenal. Math can be applied to anything from the problem, "Should I have French toast, or cereal for breakfast?" to more complex problems directly dealing with mathematics.

I figured out how to solve 3x^2 - 48 = 0 WITHOUT any lessons. Add 48 to both sides, divide by 3, then square root. It's obvious and shouldn't need lessons!

How about this? (x^3 + 8)^2 + y = y. Solve for x. If you are smart, you shouldn't need someone to teach you. "thumbs up if you wish math was just multiplying, adding, dividing, and subtracting" 71 thumbs and highest rated? That's ridiculous.

Prove that sqrt(2) + sqrt(3) is irrational. Tip: a = sqrt(a^2). Can you figure it out? It uses that principle.

√18 is a simply way of writing √9 x √2..

and like he said, always try to break down the roots as much as possible. When the root number is also a square number, it can be simplified to its square factors.

√18 = √9 x √2 (9 is a square number) = 3√2

3√2 is obviously 3 x √2, when multiplying this back out, you have to turn 3 back into √9.
