Make sure the surface the drive is on is flat and not touching anything. I had a Lacie next to another one, both with Aluminum case and the noise was annoying. If the noise is internal, then I would back up data just to be safe.
Well, I can tell you hitting it wouldn't solve it. That's.... not a very... err... smart thing to do. Anyway, the rattling in that hard disk is bad bearings. That can cause the head to crash.
@kawaiiultraneo Wrong! on the 30th day I had this drive, it had died and I had to get it replaced. It would not mount on the desktop and the data had been corrupted and lost. These sounds where what led up to its death.
It is not normal if it haven't failed yet. I am worried about mine because it makes a rattle sound when it mounts and unmounts. And when I move it it sounds like if the HD was kinda loose, but it doesn't make those crazy sounds.

It makes a rattling noise when i start the computer
when it wakes from hibernation or sleep it doesnt rattle
it only rattles from a fres windows boot
Should i be worried?
