I had dreams of buying a porsche since i was a little kid.. I graduated from college 3 semesters ago and realized how hard it is to find a job to feed myself and pay my bills.. I am employed but will have to stick with my 2000 Civic for a while.. Reality is a bitch.. Hope i get to own a porsche in my life..
@Ascendancy25 I'm pretty sure Ferrari doesn't do this type of testing. Porsche is the daily driver's sport's car. They run forever, are fun to drive, and you don't look like such a douche driving one like you would in a Ferrari. Drive your Ferrari on the weekends to your car meets to brag. Take your Porsche to work on the weekdays to have a fun time.
I haved loved or rather been obsessed with Porsche since I was 12 years old. I realised my dream when I was 19 and bought a new 944- which I still own today, several more followed over the years...but now I wish the marque was as exclusive as it was in 1988..alas Porsche is such an amazing product that perhaps too many are now produced and sold....so sadly now I will try another marque.
The location in the arctic isn't "secret" its Yellowknife NWT, Canada, I used to live there, the mine in the picture is Giant Mine, an abandon old gold mine. they test all kinds of cars there on the Ingraham trail, Porche, and BMW can be seen there every winter...
Nothing special about that. All auto makers do that. This is just another way for Porche to advertise their "special" car. In a near future, cars will be so complicated that you will need an engineer to fix them.
I dont get the whole deal about shrowding the cars in plastic before their introduction. that really just seems like a fad that all the manufacturers think is nessesary. like soneone is gonna steal their design or somthing? makes no sence
Right. Testing only on different climates and dusty roads with no cracks in it? I wish I could see real suspension tests in bad roads. These are not real tests. This is just a marketing movie about their engineers' vacation trips.
@marcosbressan Dident you notice they were driving on gravel roads? isent it possible to imagine that gravel roads also has some holes and cracks? But why should they actually do it? this is a sports car not a pickup truck...
@fecristiano231 i guess it starts of a hobby-drivers that get professional ... if u are really interested u may look up the vita of tanner foust ... this may be interesting for you
@azzy144 The Porsche brand in general is prisonner of his own design for maybe 40 years. I Understand that Porsche made great cars, but they are more and more quite the same over the years: Sport cars for business people (maybe not for the GT2-GT3 models). The others fact is that the sophisticated electronics of the 911 make you loose some of the driving feeling that you love and find in the oldest 1980-1990 models. So, the new 911 is quite the same thing that the GTR, fast but a bit boring ;)
"Why do they test them under these extremes" The secret place in the arctic is Kiruna in sewden,i live in Norway with similar conditions and the ONLY supercar you`ll see in winter is 911`s and they run flawlessly.997 turbos runs like a....Toyota something.Try doing the same with a Lambo or a Ferrari 458....... They are supercars with the durability of a Toyota landcruiser
@EVILSPAWN1000 The Porsche winter testing grounds are in Arjeplog, Sweden. But in this video, they're testing them in Northern Canada. They have US license plates from Georgia, and you can see different types of American trucks in the background.
But I definitely agree about the quality. They beat even Lexus on some tests, and the pre-2006 generation comes out on top of all quality charts that I've seen.
@EVILSPAWN1000 toyota landcruisers are very reliable, here in UAE "Dubai" you will see landcruisers everywhere...in summer tempretures reach up to 60 degrees Celsius....we take them to the desert and play with them forever...so u are wrong with ur phrase :)
Das ist der letzte 911 oder? Weil bei Grip meinten die das kein 911 mehr kommt sondern Porsche versucht was neues. Wenn ich falsch informiert bin bitte klärt mich auch :)
Cool car but I still can't get over how Nissan smashed it. Funny thing is, a lot of the highly priced cars are getting killed by cars that cost a fraction of the cost. Now that manufacturers are really concerned with making cars that last, including the economy, a lot of the higher priced car companies are up the creek!
@christianpier You are so right !!! Equipment in our days for DSLR,s is so good you can easily do better ones.... and they have the money to do this !
I think any car manufacturer who goes through this just to fine tune their all wheel drive systems, traction control software and mechanical components is aiming at building the best quality, reliable and versatile sports car around.
wow, what a car. sounds sweet, looks amazing and i'm sure that engine power wont disappoint me either. I'm not really a fan of the 911s optically, but that things look is so incredible, that i'd buy it without a 2nd thought if i could afford it.
nice vid btw, wish i could try that thing out there ;)
why do they put boiling water on the headlights... given their standards, shouldn't they just make headlights that won't crack at such cold temperatures?
The 911 is a legend and this video is a serious reminder of the legend it is and has been and how it got there. I cannot wait to become the owner of a 911, and drive it every single day so ill sum this up in two words, Porsche Rocks!
hahaha he says "as on a german autobahn". im german.. and i fkn didnt know that american people have an english word for our "highway" thats exactly written as our german word "Autobahn" :DD
Thank you Porsche! What a fantastic insight into the making of another legend :) I would love to see much more like this and the photography was superb!! Again, thank you!!
As an owner of a restored 1970 911T, this is the 1st 911(991) that has caught my attention in years. Don't get me wrong, I love all 911s; well, maybe not the 996, but every other 911. I've actually been stashing money away for a Boxster Spyder, but I may have to reconsider my goal. Unfortunately, $100k+ for the standard 991 will take a lot more time to save enough cash.
I think this is an excellent video because potential owners would feel like they're in good hands, regardless of the Porsche model (maybe?). It's also nice to see that design is not left behind despite technological advances/improvements.
This new car is remarkable. Even reading about it. I will state that I myself am not a Porschephile but the 2012 Type 991 is a big deal IMO. There's a LOT more to it than just a makeover.
