@DeanCalaway for you to know, it matters...in my experience as a designer, i was trying to make thing like the vest on GIMP and nothing like that appears to be where it have to be...then i download photoshop and surprise! now i can made designs with shading, wrinkles, highlights, etc.

i use gimp and i have some idea of the tools being used but the one where u start to create the buttons and seams is that emboss? i would really like to create seams not so much buttons cuz i design lingerie
