This is the best video I've seen of her singing, and so beautifully at her own wedding, with a band who admitted they hardly knew the song(tho' they did fine). It certainly made me cry with its emotional words and sad connotations. Oh Lena, thanks for your time with us.....
She was a year younger than me, and I saw her the first time she appeared on Opportunity Knocks. We are amazed at her voice. A truly tragic person along with Karen Carpenter. RIP both.
Iremember her first appearence on Hughie Greens show she had a stunning voice and like most of the kids the same age as her wouldn't of minded a snog saddley she's no longer with us and that saddens me big time i planned on marrying her me self ( i my efin dreams)
With so many tragic things in her personal life, she deserved better than the hand god dealt her. She will always hold a special place in my heart. xx
hey rest in peace little lady and ignore the rude comments of the sick twat who posted crude things,, have some respect will you ?? have a godo day to all others xxxxxxxx
She is fine now, God's garden became a lil more beautiful when she arrived , his choir has been so blessed.....and so have we...may her memory live in us all forever, and a day ,I know it shall in mine.. oxoxox
I loved lena she was so talented. Poor girl never really got it together with her fame. Her death was a tragedy and a great loss to her whole family and Scotland. The song Nowhere was so prophetic for her.
I see what your saying, no one really 'got it' and it wasn't really understood that much and maybe if it was in today's society she could have gotten better help....I don't know, I was only 7 when she died and I wish I could have known about her sooner.
I just found the 45rpm I bought of Lena singing Mama from the 1970s after reading the posts here. I remember buying the record as a young teen thinking that she was a fantastic singer for such a little girl. After that, we never heard from her here in the States. I was shocked and saddened to read what happened. My God....I pray she is at peace and still singing in Heaven.
Besides anything that was one hell of a performance . Lena was helped by her very caring family friends and professionals . Sadly to some health problems there is no happy ending . Lena tried so hard but there was a mental barrier there stopping her which she just could not cross . She battled for so long . The op seemed to have been a success but Lena caught an infection and was not strong enough to overcome it . We lost the most gifted & lovely pop star the British Isles has ever produced .
If I as a mother of a talented child felt she needed to move off an island to have that talent recognised - one I would only want her talent recognised for her - two, as a loving mother, I would never never have sent my child of an island into London with strangers - just co's she could make money. - Don't say it wasn't that co's if people had nurtured her as child and not wanted to feed off her fantastic talent she may have had a chance in life.
It was tragic what happened to her, but why do you have to add pathos as master judge and jury to something you have decided, but know nothing about. We are here for loving remembrance, not bitter condemnation of those close to her who are grieving more than you can fathom, miss righteous.
No, I'm not a judge and, no I'm not a jury, and emm, caring for someone - well then yes I will give you your comment of being righteous - co's if caring is that - I am so guilty. I think the judge and the jury will the be the public if they do another indepth documentary that really gets to the truth of what was right and wrong in Lena's life - respect to Lena.
But where were all those that had fed off her, gained money by her when she needed help. Truly she was a fabulous performer, did well making money for those around her but who was truly there for her - did anyone on the island who holds her memory sacred do anything real to save her or just go about their daily lives.
It's very easy to play the 'blame game',but completely pointless. Nothing will bring Lena back, and the sad truth is that she was offered help. Her father tried, her cousins tried. She just couldn't fight her demons.
Of course there were things done (letting a 10 year old go off to London without at least one parent, putting her in a stage school, etc) which were appalling. What I would hope is that Lena's story is seen as a warning to the parents of current and future child performers.
Thanks for this......This is amazing. I was 2 years below Lena at Italia Conti stage school. She was fantastic and still is. THank you so much for these postings LenaZavaroniFAN xx
And for those who did care they will recognise that I am someone who does care - even now - wish I'd known her personally - wish I'd had the chance to try and help - wishes don't come true but want her remembered but don't want those who let her down to make money out of me helping her get remembered
Well,in this day and age,who knows, right? But that's not fair to the people who DO care, like you!:)
But it's like, kinda anticlimatic to do this now, don't you think? I know you have good intentions but what good will it do her now? She's dead...but her spirit & music will live on in her music, videos,TV shows, ect.
November 7 LZFan,thank you for posting these videos.
I did find out about her ,more than you could know.Best to let it go bringing people to light would do no good.there is a lot of love out there for her thanks to the web it wil go on and on,people not even born yet will join that love ,thats much better than bringing people to light, her Spirit lives on.
Certainly lovely to see that people do care and appreciate her after all these years. She was terrific - it's only because I do care that I am angry at the profiteers and those who did nothing.
Yes, she was singing Lena's songs on Rothsay. Where was she though when lena died alone on "benefits". Where was her family? She made lots of money for lots of people - she didn't live extravagently - where did her money go?
Anorexia takes a toll on every body part including the vocal folds--& I suspect she was vomiting also. Listen to her earlier singing & you can tell in this wedding number she was very sick. Look how her hair deteriorates over the years. Earlier it is very smooth, later it is shaggy and damaged--even before she bleached it blond. She had it all teased up at her wedding & wore it that way later also. She probably had very little hair. You lose your hair when you do what she did to her body.
Yes,thank you, yeah in that video of her singing Going Nowhere her hair looks good.
Fast-forward to her interview in 1989 with her hubby & her hair does look coarse and way too big for her face-even though big hair was the style then she teased it to divert attention away from her painfully thin face.
You could tell she didn't want to sing at her own wedding (can you blame her?) but why didn't she just say no? Did she need to be validated that badly that she couldn't say no?
Lena had such desperately low self-esteem, she would have sung till she dropped dead to please others. Which is pretty much what she did. Most anorexics think very little about themselves. And no matter how much she was loved & complimented, she never believed it herself.
Lena smiles on this video at her wedding and I'm sure she must have wanted to be happy on her wedding day - but just look at her eyes. The pain and fragility is showing in her eyes. How terribly sad. And I really can't believe such a powerful voice was coming from such a tiny, fragile body. RIP Lena - Dawn xx
Heartbreaking to see this beautiful girl look so ill and fragile. Her parents and family must have shed a tear on her her wedding day.She doesnt look really happy to be getting married .God Bless her and may she be eternally at peace now
Even the band didn't throw her, despite not really knowing the song - she carried it off brilliantly. A great voice. Sad she tragically lost her life so young. Would love to hear the song, "Should Have Listened To Mama" but not found a full version of it.
LenaZavaroniFAN - A massive heartfelt thank you for sharing such a personal video of Lena - Lena The Voice, what a performance of such a classic number. Fabulous.
What a sad sad tragedy!
Fantastic Singer and lovely lovely person...A True Great that was very under rated.
