Best thing that ever happened to me was getting laid off in Allentown. I transferred to sunny Scottsdale, Arizona. Allentown reminds me of rust, dark clouds, rain, trains, unemployment. Just depressing. Must have been good place to live in 1940’s. I don’t drink or do drugs. But if I moved back there I would overdose on any drug could get my hands on.
I grew up in Allentown but been away for some time now... I really miss being there and hope to at least visit some time soon.. This video brings back so many memories of so many places I used to visit and hang around at when I was a kid.. Parketts with my favorite teacher Mr. Strauss, downtown Allentown, Jordan park, Fountain Park, Dorney Park and Wild Water Kingdom.. Some parts of the city, there's drug problems. but it's ignorant to say the entire city crap. i think the only part you have to worry about it 2nd - 6th streets, on the westend. Check out the southside, cedar park, lehigh parkway, the eastside, trout creek, very beautiful and fancy neighborhoods. This video says it all.

For those deabting: I live on 11th and Hamilton. The inner city where I am is horrible. It is filled with garbage all over the streets, loud obxnoius people, wannabe gangsters, music blasting from cars etc. What many people forget though is that not only Center City is consider Allentown. Thee are nicer further out such as the West end. So, you are both correct. It just depends on which part of Allentown you are talking about.

When you see an Allentown, PA mailing address, don't assume it's in the ghetto.
Allentown zip codes go far outside the city limits, including the townships of South Whitehall, Upper Macungie, and Hanover, and as safe as any suburban area for corporate relocation.
Other thing to check is school district. Parkland or anything BUT Allentown School District is good.

I grew up in Allentown and would not live there and/or send my children to the Allentown School District. This video is misleading, What was once a great city is now decaying city. Most of this is thanks to the diverse elements from New York and New Jersey. We all know what ruined this city, but elected officials are afaid to speak the truth. We have the largest number of Hit and Runs in PA. Individuals have begun to cut the metal license plates off cars to remove the registration tag.
There is a strong possibility that the person Hit and Running your vehicle has Spanish as their first language. We have three Hispanic gangs terrorizing our schools and neighborhoods. The middle schools have had to deal with Lice, one student actually had TB.
Allentown has become a City of Sanctuary for Crime and Criminals.

I was born and raised here, and still here. I live in an 1800's house with my mom west of Allentown. I was born Jan. 14, 1974 in Allentown Hospital (now Lehigh Valley). I can still remember Hess's where the PPL building is now. We ate in the Hess's Patio with my grandmother my mom's mom who passed away in January from cancer. My father passed away Mar. 1986, he worked at Beth. Steel. I remember the old Dorney Park when it was smaller and Bob Ott ran it.
When did they tear down Hess'? I moved from there in the late 70s and havent been back in like 15 years...still think about it but I'm sure I wouldnt remember much. Still I do remember Dorney Park...was like a county fair compared to how it is now I'm sure!

This is hilarious. I haven't lived there in almost 20 years, but the place wasn't that can-do even in its glory days of All Americanhood. It was already mostly a slum when I left.

and if you really know allentown you'd know that the velodrome not even in the city limits of allentown, so yeah. like i said, i'm a realist buddy, i love my city to death, but it's ghetto point blank, yeah most side side and west side is nice, east side got nice parts, even the new acres, and a little bit center city look good. i dont lie to myself, i know where i live i accept it and love it. dieruff husky pride 2006. now that's i've started seeing the world i've seen how much i love it.

I wish the police would focus more on downtown, and really drive the scum out. And the whole hit and run thing...i was rearended 2 years ago, only to have the guy disappear and never answer for the insurance company...$1500 worth of damage all on me, his company wouldn't even settle.

wow, PaDutchman really hates allentown...i live a block from that high school, there isn't gunfire and gangwars like people try to say...the occasional criminal shouldnt have the power to ruin an entire town. I can't say i've never run into problems in allentown, but that can happen most places.

I moved in Allentown about one and a half years ago. I hate it. I hate everything in this town. I've lived in different cities, including out of the US, in my entire life. This city is the worst city I've ever lived. I'm moving out of this state this coming summer. I can't wait!

This video is crap. If you want a more balanced look at A-town check out the video that I did. I moved away in 1994 and have made a few return visits. Personally, I think the city has gone down the tubes. If you live in Allentown, good luck with your mess of a city.

Ummm... wow. This is only focusing on the 'good' things about A-town. When was this video made? Was it made like, fourty years ago? Because Allentown isn't at all like that, at least, not anymore. All you ever hear about is crime, crime, crime... drugs and shootings and rapes and gang fights... there are some good things about A-town, but it often seems like the bad overweighs the good.

When you see an Allentown, PA mailing address, don't assume it's in the ghetto.
Allentown zip codes go far outside the city limits, including the townships of South Whitehall, Upper Macungie, and Hanover, and as safe as any suburban area for corporate relocation.
Other thing to check is school district. Parkland or anything BUT Allentown School District is good.

I grew up in Allentown and would not live there and/or send my children to the Allentown School District. This video is misleading, What was once a great city is now decaying city. Most of this is thanks to the diverse elements from New York and New Jersey. We all know what ruined this city, but elected officials are afaid to speak the truth. They destroyed the city, let them fix it.

Both towns have had problems with factories closing and apparently poverty and gangs, crime.

I moved from the Valley to Boston about 5 years ago. I never thought I would feel safer in a huge city than I ever felt when I was in Allentown. My parents still live in Bethlehem, and have told me that Allentown is worse than it's ever been with drugs and gangs basically running the city into the ground. I mean, it was never paradise when I was growing up there, but it wasn't exactly hell on earth either. Now I'm not so sure.

We have the largest number of Hit and Runs in PA. Individuals have begun to cut the metal license plates off cars to remove the registration tag.
There is a strong possibility that the person Hit and Running your vehicle has Spanish as their first language. We have three Hispanic gangs terrorizing our schools and neighborhoods. The middle schools have had to deal with Lice, one student actually had TB.
Allentown has become a City of Sanctuary for Crime and Criminals.

I was almost murdered in allentown.Some minorities thought it was a fun idea to smash my face in and i think they thought i was dead and threw me in the bushes,after i left a house party.Some sanatation guy was doing his job,saw me in the bushes and helped me out.Luckily someone called the cops on the house i came from for some reason and i got a ride home.I moved to this area 3 years ago and i have never seen so much reversed racism in my life.I plan to move next year.

are you serious? i love allentown, i've lived there for 18 years out of my 21 years old, (my dad was in the army when i was born, and i'm in the air force stuck in arizona) and phoenix is really high end and warm, and sunny 330 days a year, but i'd still rather live in allentown, that's my home. i know all the shortcuts all the roads, where to go for shit, what to do, and shit. i lived in east side, center city, south side and west end. so don't talk shit. i'm just a realist.

Congratulations!!! It has gotten worse. Our Central Elementary School has had a case of Tuberculosis.Lice are found in the class rooms. Gun shots are heard every night , hit and runs take place multiple times a day because a new population does not believe in car insurance. They invest in guns and drugs as a investment future. I have lived here almost 60 years years, but it was never like this. It is the Caribbean Commonwealth Citizens who destroying Allentown as they Hazeltown.

This must have been made before the Billy Joel Song. Thursday 2 gang members were killed in the same night. Last summer a 18 yr. girl who just got out of high school was shot and killed going to McDonalds. Mack is laying off, Bethlehem Steel is a field now, General Electric and Black and Decker are closed. All we got are warehouses run by companies that were over seers for the slave plantations of the south. The only person who speaks English anymore was the person who did this video.

I was born and raised here, and still here. I live in an 1800's house with my mom west of Allentown. I was born Jan. 14, 1974 in Allentown Hospital (now Lehigh Valley). I can still remember Hess's where the PPL building is now. We ate in the Hess's Patio with my grandmother my mom's mom who passed away in January from cancer. My father passed away Mar. 1986, he worked at Beth. Steel. I remember the old Dorney Park when it was smaller and Bob Ott ran it.
