Thanks for making this video. Does it accept a keyboard for chord input? If you use an electric guitar, and don't route the output anywhere, could it be used for recording, or is it too noisy?
@yimmiytube I had the mix setting at 12oclock - but the camcorder was picking up a bit of my "dry" voice as well, making it louder than the harmonies. there is no pitch correction except on Unison 2 setting, and that is simply 440Hz chromatic.
STILL haven't got around to trying it with bass. the thing's been riding around in the band trailer for about a year now... never get a chance to experiment much anymore...holding up pretty well though...
Great question. I've never tried. Not enough time in the day. I would think, depending on the track, that the unit would have a tough time tracking to a full, fleshed out song as opposed to a single instrument due to the amount of harmonic content. Anyone else? We're assuming the track is in tune to 440 standard.
do you know another device that does live harmony...or basically, what if im in the studio and i want to record a song..how will this be a good device for me to do that..i know you could turn on the harmony and stuff but if im just recording a vocal track in the booth that means that im not playin the keyboard. So is this device only good for live performance?
I tried it in the studio on a pre recorded vocal and i fed the unit a recorded guitar via a bus out on my DAW. Didn't really work for me. The tracking was awful and i cant explain why. anyone else?
I just got one as well. Two significant problems: if you're using it for a live performance, you have to reset it for each song as it has no memory. Also, if you finger pick rather than strum, it throws the whole thing off and the harmonies aren't accurate.
I haven't had too many problems with the fingerpicking issue. anyone else? And no memory does sucks. It would be great if you could have three dedicated "presets" to step through. For a "stock" setting, I usually just leave the Uni2 voice engaged and toggle the high harmony per song in addition to the global on/off footswitch within the song. That will work for a lot of tunes.
Umm there's like 50 "demo" videos out there from digitech and resale-ers if you want that. This is a review of my experience with the unit. The harmonies work on some stuff and not others and yes, I thought the "effects" sounded like cheap tack-ons.
Coutimundi's right, and the unison voices will thicken any voice up. Unison 2 actually has chromatic pitch correction applied, so listen carefully if you're doing acapella. With no guit/key signal present and the harmony voices engaged - it will sound unequivocally awful.
btw - the Live 4 is programmable, so you could use that, but you still have to sing on pitch <than halfway to the next semitone to make it work so you have to have SOME pitch reference that aligns you to the unit.
Great! So I believe I should go for a pedal like the TCHelicon Create/Correct to get the live support. Have you guys ever tried these out? Thanks again!
Haha dig the "here's a picture" segments.

Can I plug it into my Boss BR-1200 multi-track recorder. That is the selling point for me
diamonddust22 2 years ago
LOL nice. Plugging a digitech into a Boss.
It's like dropping a Ford engine into a camaro or vice versa.
Hey, it works, right?
What other things on the Digitech Vocalist products would you like to see that isn't there that would be a selling point for you.

@HomesliceDrummer Oh nothing, I just wanted to know if I can use it for recording purposes.

Can I use this with my Karaoke backing tracks by sending the audio into the instrument input?

can this be used without a guitar or keyboard?
princetonbanks 2 years ago
The mic pre and effects section and the unison voices, yeah, but the harmonies trigger from the instrument input.
redlightrecords 2 years ago
can the harmonies be triggered using a sequencer playing backing tracks? instead of a guitar/key.
malachilogic 3 years ago
Sure, as long as you get the notes into the Live2 as audio via the mic or 1/4in inputs. It doesn't do MIDI.

I can hear 2 harmonies in addition to your voice so this does 3 part harmony?
arcanequiver 3 years ago
Yes, you could say that. Your real time voice+2 harmony voices=3part harmony. Does it count if you have two unisons with the original?

What review? 8-o
I was expecting a proper demo of the functions
, e.g the Comps, verbs, enhancers. Rather than "this is crap, that is crap, I'll skip it"
didn't really demo-ed the harmonies thoroughly as well, as we hear is one patch, then some complaints on how that one patch wont work on other songs.
not very informative.

Have any of you ever experienced any 'latency' with this box (V2) or the V4?

All reviews should be like this. GREAT job!!!
Someone finally posted a review of actually using a product.
Keep up the good work.

Agreed! Excellent piece of gear-demo!
People should learn how-to-do-it from this guy!
Thanks Pal!

Nice "no crap" review. Let me ask you: would this be suitable for singing alone (w/o the use of a guitar or keyboard pluged into)?
Tks!
gustavosued 4 years ago
Not with the harmonys engaged. The box needs a guitar/keyboard plugged into it to determine the pitch. You could use the unison voices, however.
