Despite what ppl think private breeders may be the last hope of thses guys. Little known fact but snow leopards were saved by buying stock from private breeders. There wasn't enough in zoos!
In places where people live next to leopards, dogs end up being the leopards main food. Domesticated animals are just too helpless for them to resist. The same goes for Jaguars and where I live- cougars. Almost every week someone in my neighborhood loses a dog or a goat to a cougar or coyote.

@superTHODORIS If the dogs are hunting the leopard with their owner, then the dogs have the advantage. But if the dogs are just hanging out or sleeping, the leopard could grab one and kill it before the dog knew what was happening, especially if the dog is alone.
The reason people keep these breeds with sheep is because the predator will go after the sheep, and then the dog can surprise it and scare it off.

Birth rates have declined due to the population experiencing a certain lifestyle along with social pressures. Japanese women and couples aren't having kids anymore, they are mainly focused on their careers. Any population where the people are struggling to survive and low education - they will usually have high birth rates. Currently, Japan is quite the opposite.

It also depends on individualty. I've seen dogs kick a wolfs ass. I've seen a wolf THROW a dog in the air (using it's jaws and not paws of course). I've seen a cougar own a wolf in a fight. But then I've seen a wolf even more pown a cougar in a fight. It depends on the animal itself.

Birth rates have declined due to the population experiencing a certain lifestyle along with social pressures. Japanese women and couples aren't having kids anymore, they are mainly focused on their careers. Any population where the people are struggling to survive and low education - they will usually have high birth rates. Currently, Japan is quite the opposite.

such beautiful creatures but so few left, it is really sad. and i dont see anything wrong with eating a few dogs here or there, there are so many stray dogs and puppies nowadays that they kill a lot of those that end up at the pound or even shelters when no one adopts them. its probably better that they are able to be used as food to keep the amur leopards alive so the next generations are able to see them too.

It also depends on individualty. I've seen dogs kick a wolfs ass. I've seen a wolf THROW a dog in the air (using it's jaws and not paws of course). I've seen a cougar own a wolf in a fight. But then I've seen a wolf even more pown a cougar in a fight. It depends on the animal itself.

if you watch closely, the dogs are skined completely only the feets are with skin, you can see it well when the leopard caries that black dog on the throat. the other one was eaten on the side. big cats always start to eat the prey at the stomak or between the legs.. I personaly dont think the leopard was the one who did it,

this came up oddly in the recommended for you section, and honestly I agree with yurintroubl, some of those "house pets" looked a lot like most dogs people train to hunt or protect something. And if living in the habitate of an endangered animal, you're not gonna leave you're pet roaming around outside. I hate if they were family pets, but also if they were hunting dogs, but I hope the ones that train dogs to be vicious get hunted down themselves.

I am an animal lover. The fact that there seems to be a "dog vs. cat agenda" evidenced in the comments for this video... makes the amount of ignorance in the world that much more disturbing. I'd be willing to bet that these "house dogs" were more like "hunting dogs" because some farmer worried about his livestock wanted to kill the leopard. Perhaps even a poacher's dogs. The hunter becomes the hunted.

Dogs will "tree" leopards, by following their scent, chasing them up trees, and then barking for hours. As this makes it impossible for a leopard to hunt any other animals eating dogs is the logical conclusion.

this cat is so rare im skeptical to belive that the big cat is actually an amur. but despite my skepticism it does look like an amur. and to people saying poor dog kill the lepoard. there is only 30 left in the wild with perhaps about 120-200 in captivity. with 150-230 members of the species left im quite content to see it eat a dog concidering theres about 50 million dogs in the world. though it is quite disturbing that the cat would be so confortable round human settlement to hunt dog

Half his body is eaten and he has a gaping hole in his back. I wonder if that leopard killed all 3 of those dogs. If so why neither could fight it off. They are predators also.

HKLeo, yes, leopards too. Unfortunately, they really like dog meat, so in certain geographical areas, they enter villages looking for lone dogs almost on a regular basis. However, many leopards are either chased off or killed by armed people before an official hunt takes place.

@funspot101studios dog populations are on the rise. in fact, there are so many, there aren't enough homes for them. many live on the streets or die in pounds because of the overwhelming numbers. dogs are not suffering by any means. amur leopards, however. there are less than 200 alive today. you can find that many dogs in a single aspca shelter.

prey. The ones they attack are usually smaller than themselves. They attack larger ones when they are sleeping. Did you read about the Golden Retriever that fended off a cougar yesterday? Most larger dogs can fight these animals.

A policeman arrived just in time and found them under the house, the cougar still trying to suffocate the dog in a head-grip. The policeman had to shoot it a few times to save the dog. But the dog did save the cougar's intended victim: a kid.

The cougar LEFT the boy and dog but not the property. When the police came they shot the wandering cougar. There's no way a cougar would have a dog by it's neck until the time police arrive just to get shot itself with the dog still alive. The Cougar fought enough until it lost. Nothing big. As someone who owned a dog in at least sometime in life, it was really sad to see this. It sure wanted me to murder thousands upon thousands of leopards, and bring them to a critical endangered species....
Okay, just kidding about wanting to hunt them to near extinction. However, if I had a dog again, and I came home and saw it being consumed by a leopard, and I had the proper advantage and weaponry, then there is no way I would just say, "Oh well, it's nature."

I've seen a hynea attack a leopard. It hurt the leopard badly though the leopard repelled it. A Hyena is larger than a leopard, wolf and most dogs. I still don't see a hyena killing a large guard dog.
