PLEASE CALL MAYORS OFFICE AND TELL THEM TO STOP KIDNAPPING AND KILLING DOGS!! 520-791-4201
I'm from outside the rez in the east coast and trying o teach myself Navajo and this is a good place to start and heck it's catchy and I have my dog along awesome!!!!
Lol! I learned this from my sister who at the time went to school @ dennehotso boarding school while I stayed with grandma herding sheep cuz I was still too young to go to school. I remember seeing the blue van on Fridays to drop her off.hahaha.
@hopichick13 Dialects Athabaskan-it's so funny when both Fluent speaking Navajo and Apache come together they sound like the other tribe is speaking broken of theirs.(like hearing someone speaking broken English) A lot of the word meanings have been switched around. And plurals have been switched around too. It's pretty funny.
Oh my Goodness.. I remember this song in Boarding school but, for the life of me, could not remember the whole thing.. Now I have a daughter who gets to learn it now.. All thanks to you.. THANK YOU!!
i love this song it takes me back when i was young and singing it with my brother. we made the names different and laught about it all the time... thanks for the post it was great 2 hear again...
I learned this song back in boarding school at Shonto, AZ; the lyrics were a tad different. However its great to hear it again, I'd like to teach my (city) kids this song. THANKS!!
One of the first songs I remember learning at BIA's Indian Club. I still remember it to this day! But just noticed the difference that you said his stomach is round.... while I remember the lyrics as 'he eats too much and he drags his stomach' (translate that in Navajo). Cute song, need to have my kids learn that too. Thanks for making it simple.

It sounds a lot like the tune of Hush Little Baby for a while, then it changes, but later it starts sounding like it again.

Even though I did not grow up at a Rez school, this song sounds very familiar. It must be the tune.

Oh, by the way, I was taught the dog's name was "Kizh" which means "Spot," instead of "Kii" which is "boy."

My old teacher, Dollie L Yazzie, made a recording of this song. She passed away not long ago.
