I think that the fact of that this kind of sound can be considered "old-fashioned" is one of the reasons that explain that the lyric singers careers become so short nowadays. I've listened to Nucci last night in Vigo. He's 68, his expression was absolutely overwelming, he showed a perfect breathing control, and his sound was honest, deep and a bright like no other singer (not just baritone) can get today. And he sung almost ten arias from Verdi (Rigoletto, Jago, Renato, Macbeth...).
