Paul Revere's drawing is not acurate becasse what happened is that the Patriots were daring the Loyalist to shoot them knowing that the Loyalists were not allowed, but when someone pushed the souldier the Loyalists fired at the Patriots. In the drawing you see that the Patriots faces look scared and innisent and the Loyalist look mean and evil, but really it was the Boston Massacure was really the patriots fault.
i think it was a riot or self-defense because someone went up to a troop and yelled and said bad words 2 him then he hit with the bulk of his gun then he yelled to make the main captain to come and they came the where in a quarter moon shape and after that they were more people yelling and u couldn't hear the captain yell fire it would be impossible after that someone hit one of the solders with a stick and he fired but we dont know if crispus attucks was the first to die thats my story
@TehReaz It was proven that Crispus was the first to die. It was also proven that the colonists had just left a tavern. They threw rocks and shells at the soldiers. The crowd was so loud that the youngest soldier did not hear the Don't in "DON"T FIRE", so he fired, and as did the rest of the soldiers. They were also not in a formation, and there were Nine soldiers, not eight (eight were in Revere's painting). Also, it was night. I gave you the true facts, now decide if it was a massacre or not.
@Steve11W yeah i know lol they ordered not to fire and it was proven it would be impossible to hear it and then there was a coloniest that hit one of the solders and got up and fired there wondering if it was on purpose because some think they wanted to kill them and double loaded its a mystery how crispus died aftter that in around 15seconds - 2 min the rest of them fired and the captain didn't stop them so i think they wanted to kill them because he hated the coloniests
Here is what I think, it why the troops fired, either it was people in the crowd chanting fire, daring the soldiers to fire. Another possible theory is that one of the soldiers slipped on ice, or something, that cause his rifle is discharged, and the other soldiers though that he was shot, so they fired in self defense.
John Adam: "The Part I took in Defence of Cptn. Preston and the Soldiers, procured me Anxiety, and Obloquy enough. It was, however, one of the most gallant, generous, manly and disinterested Actions of my whole Life, and one of the best Pieces of Service I ever rendered my Country. Judgment of Death against those Soldiers would have been as foul a Stain upon this Country as the Executions of the Quakers or Witches, anciently. As the Evidence was, the Verdict of the Jury was exactly right"
There shouldn't be a debate over the Boston Riot. John Adams sorted the issue at the trial. He proved that the British soldiers were just doing their job, that you cannot persecuits guards for being guards, that the Bostonian Mob antagonized the British soldiers, presented a threat to those soldiers and the British soldier's had every right to defend themselves, that the worst the British Soldiers could be guilt of was manslaughter. 6 were acquitted while only 2 were charged with manslaughter.
Perhaps Revere didn't know that one of the five was black. Or maybe it matters more to you than it did to him. It's actually hard to tell. Maybe the Crispus was a mulato, and you really couldn't tell. Or maybe the artists were focused on the singular idea of liberty handed down by God, as we should be, and not on some guy's color.
Very good clip. Most peoples forget that a national founding myth is the result of interests. May it be Romolus and Remus, the Boston "massacre" or the Boston tea party. The patriots of the 1770's had been masters of propaganda. I remember seeing the tea party in the muppet show in my childhood . Classic with the alleged tax raise that prevented the waterfront people from drinking TEA! No word of smugglers profits lost by the EIC monopol with cheap tea. I would be happy to pay Georges tax rates
@crematio I would be happy to pay for the debt that the Brits went into to pay for the French and Indian War. What happen when Britain couldn't repay their debts, oh yea they lost their status as a world power. History repeats itself!
maybe he should look up greys rope works and fnd the real reason. Or maybe he should look up Captain prescott. or maybe he should go to the Massecheusetts supreme court website and look up the trial tanscripts or read the book third man down. Prescott was tried separateyly from the others and was aquitted while two from the unit were condemned to death. Our famaliar John Adams defended the two and brought up benefit of the clergy. They were exonerated by having their thumbs branded.
The colonist trow a snowball to a soldier so the gun got shoot and all the other soldier shoot too so George 3 punished them by feeding and homing the soldiers and that nothing can go out and in of Boston
@dinotom09 George wasn't punishing the colonists for a massacre of their own people, "Oh lawd, they threw snow-balls!", even Britain wouldn't think of punishing Boston for something that British soldiers did. King George was punishing them for the Boston Tea Party, which cost Britain a LOT of money and wasted their tea.
4:22 really? OK the story is aliens shoot laser beams while the British flew out on jet packs. It's common sense what happened, you have an unwelcome occupying force (police state), people are pushed to their limits and snap. Of course the Americans started screaming and hollering at the red coats, and some dumb ass 17 year old though he was going to die so he fired a shoot creating a chain reaction with the other red coats. Things like this happen all the time, but only when people grow balls!
they called it the boston masscare because thier were lost of blood sheded that shouldnt had been sheded and if you were american you would know that hellooooo!
you helped me on this project and i picked how the boston massacre happended and i broung the two pictures and start explaning what happened thank you for putting this up
@smills83 im not going into who is what but the fact is, is that it really doesnt matter anymore bc people still want to beilive that thier right no matter the facts.
@TonPappa Well there was three groups: radicals, conservatives, and the tories. The people with the power were the middle class conservatives, but the people on the streets and fighting were the radicals. The radicals lost their power in the years after the revolution but our textbooks portray these ideals stuck, when in fact life returned to the same way with taxes and no representation of the everyday man in most states.
@machado231097 think of it like this today. riot police right? what happens when sombody throws something at them nothing right away. but when the crowd still grows and police look like they are getting surrounded or being more threatened they move in.
look. it was a riot/mob. today if that happend and police were cornered what do you think what would happen? in fact they renacted it on the history channle. they put reanacters in british uniformes and other random people yelling at them and tuanting them to fire and it was a test to see if they can hear orders which they didnt. it was perfictly reasnibal for them to fire. they did nothing wrong. why it is still caled a massacre? bc we are lazy to change it.....
the audience is who looked at the picture when the painting was made..
Paul Revers's was published in a Boston Newspaper, mainly who didn't like a soldiers presence therefore buying into the fear of an occupation
The Alonzo painting right after the Civil War, trying to reinstate patriotism after a horrific and brutal civil war. Despite slaves becoming free, most Americans were still racist and he left out Cryspus Attics.
they called it a massacre because if paul revere sent the message to like new york saying 5 people died the wouldnt care. but if he said it was a massacre and sent it more people would turn against the british
@princeofteretz It was called a massacre by Patriots for propoganda purposes, and so that's how it became known. You're right though - think of all the occasions where US soldiers have mistakenly gunned down civilians only to have such events dubbed 'incidents.'
Seems like the British were the instigators when they enforced all these unreasonable taxes and regulations (townshend acts) on people who were 3000 miles away. The soldiers never should have been needed there in the first place. Believe it or not, enforcing these taxes through the barrel of a gun, is, and continues to be a violent act. I would consider it an initiation of force which completely justifies a "riot".
@jessifiable You have to remember that Paul Revere was a Patriot so he would've changed the event to his advantage. Perhaps the British were just acting in self defense. It may not seem like it, but icy "snowballs" can kill!
british soilders where going to the colonial house to get quartered, when a group of young boys and men, about 200, surrounded the british soilders and threw ice, rocks, coal , clubs and such and the general told his men not to fire, but one got hit and fell , discharging his musket and voices in a nearby alley way stated to yell fire! and well, so they did, it was the patriotic gang that started and had the boston massacre, not the brisitsh soilders, the picture, was john adams when he got ther
The colonist were throwing sticks, stones, and snowballs at the soldiers. They had got one of the soldiers down on the ground. They said don't fire, but the first shot was fired! There was 5 dead and 7 others injured in the colonist. The soldiers were defending them self. They went to court and they were found not guilty! two of the guys were found guilty and were branded on ther thumbs.
There actually was a young boy killed in a similiar confrentaion a week prior. Another big problem was that the soldiers were really only part time, taking on second jobs for less money than the Boaston nativies. This was a working class crowd in the riot.

MCRisawesome100 8 months ago
@cslewis623 Well a massacre is a term for civilians or unarmed combatants/prisoners are killed in numbers and they have no way of fighting back.
Examples: Srebrenica massacre in July 1995 - 8,000 Bosnian Muslim, mostly men and boys, were slaughtered by Serbian troops.
Quissa Khwani bazzar massacre in April 23 1930 - British soldiers fired on peaceful Indian protesters killing 200.
Munich Massacre in September 5 1972 - Palestinians take 12 Israeli olympic team hostage and kill them.
