btw, another note, has anyone noticed that "Montreal" appears at the bottom of the screen whenever the National graphics roll? it's not just this vid, it's everywhere.
The CBC has some similarities to the BBC in terms of look and feel of the news. The formats of presenting news are somewhat the same as well (correct me if I'm wrong).
It's somewhat similar to the BBC, as far as graphics go, like you said. The presentation style is somewhat similar to the BBC, but unfortunately since the CBC has in more recent years been influenced by American newscasts, the CBC in my opinion have more in common with American network nightly newscasts than the British ones.
Yes I noticed that the CBC newcasts have recently been a bit more "American" in terms of presenting their news and their style. Though I would have preferred the British format rather than the American ones since it offers a different scope, more credibility, and perspective. In short, it seems that the British-style formats are more fresh and non-biased.
I see what you are getting at. Yet bear in mind that the credibility and scope of news are only relative (i. e., they may be relatively better or do far well in some areas that American/Canadian newscasts do not). Also, as for being non-biased, I would not even say that: British news is as biased, if not more so than any news media on the planet. And not just television news, all forms of media are vehemently biased to their own politics (BBC and Sky News - Labour, ITN - Tory, etc.).
yeah there has to be some bias in every newscasts. But I just thought the bbc offered something fresh than the usual boring stuff we see on TV over here in Canada.
As an American who does not live along the border, I have never seen "The National," but I would assume, to go along with your belief, that it is better than our "news" here in The States. It is just sickening how much the institution of news has devolved here in The U.S. in just the past ten years or so.
The CBC should come back to the U.S. in some form--I enjoyed watching Newsworld International, you guys should broadcast this program on the American channel,Link TV.

one more thing, why is it that CBC no longer uses the full opening sequence any more, but rather a simplified version?

I'd love to see The National carried on a US network, better than the crap they try to pass as news here
