@ApharmdStriker saturn would'ce been a contender anyway but with 2 consoles being released at the same time (saturn and psx) sega assumed that its fanbase garnered from the megadrive would loyally follow. but during a time of the bbit wars when you could have a 32 bit system for £300 or £400....most spent lower...sadly
@ApharmdStriker Yeah and also not spent millions on developing the Mega CD and 32X and saved it for Saturn development. Then they could have launched the Dreamcast a few years later than originally launched say mid 2001 with yet even more power and a DVD drive and the VMU'S rechargable as well as being backward compatible with Sega Saturn games.
Sega desperately wanted their system first on the market, since at the time it was significantly more expensive than the PS1. So they had a surprise launch, several months ahead of the original schedule. But it was only at select retailers and had only two games (rush jobs of VF and Daytona). So early adopters were pissed because they had nothing to play for months, and retailers were pissed because Sega gave no warning. The whole thing just came off very badly.
If I recall correctly, the only Saturn VF port that was arcade perfect was VF Kids, and that was because the game was basically developed on Saturn hardware anyway. (I believe it was called the "Titan" board)
@WebVMan Yeah, the Sega Saturn port of Virtua Fighter was obviously rushed. They thankfully made up for that with their excellent port of Virtua Fighter 2.
I notice Akira's fingers don't move on saturn, but on model 1 he flexes them, Same deal with VF remix, still doesn't move his fingers.
Surprisingly though in VF2 on saturn in the intro Akira moves his fingers proving it was possible on saturn they just didn't try hard enough, the nex textures in remix were nice though.
Nicely spotted on the fingers. I hadn't noticed that.
If I had to guess, I'd say they could have managed to get the fingers moving on the Saturn port of the game, except that Sega were aiming to beat the PS1 to the market and wanted VF as launch software (if I remember correctly).
I can't explain why VF remix doesn't have it; if Sega were going to redo it, you'd think that was the sort sort of thing they wouldn't compromise on, right?
The problem with the Saturn port of VF1, just like Daytona, was that is was a rushed port since it was the pack-in game for the Saturn launch. Had it actually had enough development time, it could have easily at least been on par with it's arcade counterpart.
ha i remember Cage's feet were backwards on the Saturn.

@uadfa I'd like to think that Virtua Fighter Remix made up for this god-awful port, and Virtua Fighter 2 just one-upped it.

it has less contrast on the ground though

The Saturn version's intro is just like the 32X counterpart.
