He was once playing every note as though his life depended on it. The combination of Bu, Bill Hardman, and the Davis Jr. tunes might do that do most musicians, but how many could handle it? Dave never reclaimed the same fire, and I'm afraid the level of the other musicians helps explain why.
The date of this video is wrong. This TV program (jazz entre amigos) was done from 1984 to 1991, Dave was living in Spain the same years. I was playing with him the last year before his return to NY, his sax was stolen this last year.
