Hey, we were all out trying to find ourselves and I speak for my parents as well as myself. The end result was, as you are listening to ,came back to some very discerning sounds and lyrics. They are one of my top groups ..Lifetime..
This song wakes me up everyday, I got my cd set on timer play at 9:17,
ahh to be at a grateful dead concert... best people, best food, best beer, best acid.. and that's all in the parking lot
best pizza you can ever buy comes from those hippy vans at the dead shows, they got their little hot plates, pizza on french toast sliced in half, Mmm!.... I'm pretty sure that's not the acid talking =)
I saw the Dead Halloween 1990, Wembley Arena. I was totally straight. 20 mins into the second set, something kicked in, an energy that lifted band and audience together, simultaneously. Pointless trying to describe it, but it was truly incredible. I was buzzing for days afterwards. No wonder the Deadheads were almost a cult
I was born too late to ever see the Dead live. But I have the heard the sound boards of shows, seen Furthur, and of coarse have the complete discography. They are an incredible band, and I would kill to be able to see them live once.
@Buffsbest15 i appreciate what you said because im only 14 and i feel the same way, i actually just was further in bethal new york where woodstock was and it was amazing but i want to see jerry man!
I've seen them live 3 times, 2 x on acid once straight. Both two times I was in the "right state of mind" to experience the band, it was a phenominal experience that can't be described but were life changing. For one thing, I learned how to dance! I could FEEL the music. The third time sucked. What can I say? I wasn't tuned in as I had been the previous times. I understand what your saying though, nothing worse than hanging out sober with a bunch of drunks who find everything hilarious.
Think the Dead were Gods in the studio ... but they kidda sucked live cause the stoned out audience would eat any drug induced shit they fed them. Just being honest.
@stephenspano5369 I hear what you're saying. When I first heard some live tapes, I thought it grated on the ear a bit. They had some rough periods where drugs came before playing. I favor some of their live sets over others, but basically all of their studio jams are killer. Sometimes they were on FIRE live, though! First saw 'em in ATL in early 90's, and they were wired tight. Closed with 'Lucy/Sky/Diamonds,' a totally mind-blowing experience! My point is, be selective with the live jams...
@dgareea31swtg The taped sessions are nice, but sometimes I wish I never went to a concert. They were so much better live, that I actually prefer the studio albums because I miss 'em. I'll have to hit Further when I get the chance.
@stephenspano5369 well i do agree a little. Sometimes it sounded rough but some of them are just amazing. if you want good live stuff by them then get skulls and roses.
@stephenspano5369 So...the BAND sucked live because the AUDIENCE was high? Some good logic bro. You know, you can buy their live shit and listen to it clean.
@pooplaschwag I was at 45 man. It was badass. Sadly I only got to catch their set when they started hell in a bucket, I got a bit distracted if you know what I mean. Haha.
To REALLY know if someone has ACTUALLY seen The Grateful Dead... when you ask them, a simple nod and a smile says it all. ;-)

My 1st show was Eugene Oregan 1991 , August this was last song of the night,
next day we followed down to Shoreline camped in the redwoods.
Fell in love with it all. Wish everyone could see all the stuff that went down.
just does not go on that way. Peace and love.
