You might want to mask out parts of the fire that aren't emerging from somewhere, and apply a feather to that. Try making a flicker effect by taking an orange solid, masking it near where the flame is, feathering it out, changing the transfer mode to add, lowering the opacity, and adding a wiggle expression to the opacity. You might also want to look in to ash particles.
For what is probably a first-time for an editing newbie, this isn't bad though.
if that took you hours to make, you are a sad human being. i could do this in 10 minutes.
