  • It's out of sync, Good try though.

  • Great photos.

  • Very good overdub job! I know it can be hard with different clock timers going in and out of sync, having to re-insert vocals over the underlying instrumental track... I think there is a software program that allows for LOCKING the two separate tracks up with the same timer...I don't know the name, but you might look for that to make what you do a bit easier... YOU STILL DID A GREAT JOB, just as it is!! THANK YOU!

  • It amazes me that so many people siting in the bleachers of the recording industry think they are knowledgeable about the private history of artists like The Supremes. Everybody has their own story about what went on between the singers in the group, but the real truth is that nobody knows nothing about nothing. Just enjoy the beautiful music and enough with the mendacious history lessons. Thank you for posting this very nice song.

  • @ULike2Love Thank you so much for your comment. Amen to you suggestion. I get so sick of reading about all the people who know whose voice was strong one day and not the next or who slept with whom. Enjoy the music. Thanks again.

  • I always wondered if Mary and Cindy didn't record back-ups on Love Child and Some Day.... Do they get royalties??? After all, they had to perform the songs on stage and it was released as Diana Ross and the Supremes??? Does anyone know???

  • @utahmassage The Andantes sang back up for Love Chid as they did for many of the songs after Florence Ballard was ousted, The Andantes were Mowtowns in-house background singers. They can be prominently heard in "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" by Jimmy Ruffin

  • @utahmassage I have read that Mary gets royalties for everything with the name Supremes on it and she deserves it. A few years ago it was estimated at over 80K a year, now it's probably much more. Cindy does not get any royalties since she signed them away for an undisclosed amount of money when she left Motown.

  • I like Diana and Im a big fan and have been for years but the way she went about getting to the top was so shadey. She was willing to hurt and step on her childhood girl friends to make it. She didnt care about them at all. Sad. I only wish Florence was alive to give us her side of the story.

  • good ear suede....this is nice

  • Now do Love Child

  • This is so great. You can hear everything vocally and instrumentally, except I think the tambourine is too loud.. So great. I luv it

  • @70sRob tru

  • We have this version at the radio station I work at. I was never able to find it anywhere else.

  • When they were fab... no one could have come close! I loved Mary Wilson....I think her talents were over looked and I feel they each should have taken turns singing lead... thats the only way a band usually stays together.... of singers... I meant.

  • Thanks for the video, but the psychedelic doodlings in the background were my favorite part of this song. Why did you remove them? Why?!?

  • Wonderful just wonderful - a job well done. If you listen closely to the background vocals it sounds like Flo Ballard is lending the song a strong dramatic opera feel while Mary Wilson is giving it the strong soulful punch it requires to really enhance Diana's pop reading of the lyrics. Likely the greates HDH song for The Supremes, and sadly the last release of a 45 with the great Flo Ballard giving them hell on background.

  • Pretty Horny, Miss Mary couldn't keep her Panties on, (or her mouth shut)

  • Mary is so pretty.

  • Except for no synthesizer and the tail end vocals going out of sync, it doesn't sound any different to me.

  • Well done!

  • Great job.....I enjoyed this.

  • Great being able to hear the backing vocals even more clearly

  • Nice pics from their Liver Pool Tour and the LP.

  • Was the theme music for China Beach not Tour of Duty which was Paint it Black. Mike of Orlando you need to up your game when even a limey like me knows this and has watched both shows but never been to the US of A despite beinga Redskins for 30 years!

  • This is the original version that we heard on the radio, Aug-Oct 1967. During my first semester of college, complete paradise. Where is time travel when you need it?

  • This is the China Beach version I have been looking for!

  • diana ross, mary wilson and cindy birdsong are reuniting!! They're going to sing SOMEDAY, WE'LL BE TOGETHER on the final episode of OPRAH.

  • It was the used in the opening of China Beach

  • .

Wasn't this the version used on the TV show "Tour Of Duty" ?

    .

  • @mikeoforlando

I wouldn't think, because i made it lol

    Thanks for the comment!

  • @mikeoforlando Actually, I think something quite similar was used as the theme song for 'China Beach' not 'Tour of Duty'. My mistake.

  • @mikeoforlando

It was used in the Show "China Beach"

  • @mikeoforlando china beach with awesome dana delaney

  • @mikeoforlando No... The show was called "China Beach"....

  • @mikeoforlando You're thinking of "China Beach", another show from the same era (late '80s-early '90s) that was set during the Vietnam war. An edited stereo mix of "Reflections" was the opening theme from "China Beach."

  • Comment removed

  • @mikeoforlando Actually it was used as the theme for the TV show China Beach

  • @mikeoforlando no the show was china beach.

  • @mikeoforlando reflections was the intro to china beach, i believe faid to black was tour of duty

  • @mikeoforlando mistell, paint it black was tour of duty not faid to black

  • @mikeoforlando China Beach

  • @mikeoforlando China beach.

  • @mikeoforlando It was China Beach.

  • @mikeoforlando China Beach

  • @mikeoforlando I think it was used in China Beach with Dana Delany.

  • @mikeoforlando It was the theme song to the other Vietnam War show, China Beach.

  • @mikeoforlando

i think the show you're referring to is china beach...

  • @mikeoforlando It was the opening theme song to China Beach

  • @mikeoforlando Tour of Duty theme was Paint It Black if I remember correctly

  • @wenwenrenee You are correct sir..

  • @mikeoforlando No, this was used as the theme song for China Beach.

  • Comment removed

  • @mikeoforlando "China Beach".

  • stellar intro

  • What happened to the bloop - bloop effects? How did you do this? Curious...

  • @ivyfield

I Just Laid the Acapella over the Instrumental, and done a few volume changes to equal it out.

  • @ivyfield

This is the way it was on the Karaoke discs. The bloop bloop effect did not appear on the multitracks that was used for this disc. When mixing down the vocal part with the backing tracks, they frequently go out of sync. You've got to carefully match up the tracks at several points throughout the track. You can hear a few out of sync instances here.

  • I love the lead vocal, but the backup vocals are hardly great, so why enhance them?

  • @windberjohnstown the backgrounds are what realy make this song grate what out them the song wouldnt sound as great so enhance that

  • oh wonderful ...

  • how prophetic this song turned out to be for the Motown girls....

  • this version seen a little off.

  • oh i adore this..

  • They also added Andantes, when you hear the backgrounds at the bridge of the song.

  • great rendition of one of their best. Nice job!! Cindy was a fox when she was young.Think shes 70 now.

  • Magic - never heard this version before

    Thanks for posting

  • Thanks Alot

When i made this, i never knew it would become so popular :)

  • @suedemiddleton there is a version similar to this on one of their released cds which seemed wither a stereo mix or one that had not been fully refined as you can hear a few mis notes in the background. I think its the 13 number one hits cd from MOTOWN SILVER COLECTION

  • It was never the public's choice to minimize the vocals of Flo and Mary. I always looked forward to those times that their voices were more prominent whether on TV or a recording. I loved Diane in the Supremes.........but mostly when she was vocally sandwiched between Mary and Flo! Man! Those were the days!

  • LOVE this song

  • listen to the track closely.....diana's lead vocal is not on pace with the song....lisen to the original and then listen to this...its too fast....

  • something is wrong with this track...the lead vocal is faster than the rhythm....re-mix please

  • In Mary Wilson's biography, "Dreamgirl: My Life As A Supreme", she claims that after Flo Ballard left the group, she was not featured on any other single releases except those that were done with the Temptations-

  • I think the TALK OF THE TOWN album cover was one of the best (at 1:50). Just love it . . .

  • @paul51 I totally agree!

  • Tony Turner's book said it was Flo.

  • i dont think Cindy is on here. would have to hear the backing vocals without the lead to tell for sure but i do think its mary and flo

  • the instrumental with the backing is on youtube, under frunk brothers reflections instrumental.

You can find quite a few of the songs with only the backings and no Diana. It's cool to hear them on their own.

  • thanks

  • marlene (from the andantes) and mary did the backing vocals on this one flo did'nt turn up, marlene and mary did alot of the backing vocals when flo was having her moments.

  • Actually I read Marlene had sang on "My World Is Empty"

while I was recovering from surgery, I read the updated "Dreamgirl & Supreme Faith" I do believe Mary's account. Though later on, Marlene was used quite a bit, so it's possible.

  • @svgbaritone that's not true.

Marlene Barrow is not on "My World

Is Empty Without You" Only Mary Wilson, Diana Ross and Florence

Ballard appear on the released single and album version.

    that story about

    Marlene

Barrow is just more "urban myth".

  • I'm not going to argue by any means, but that was what I read in Mary Wilson's book. So I simply found that incinuation interesting.

  • You did not read that on Mary's book. It's on Randy Taraborrelli's "Call Her Miss Ross." Actually it was Flo singing on that record but they mixed the background vocals so low that it is almost a solo performance by Diana. I don't think Mary or Flo were enthusiastic about their contribution to this record. But don't get me wrong... they were both great singers. If they didn't do much on it is not their fault. That's the way the song was written and produced by HDH. And it's a great record!

  • It's hard to make a significant vocal contribution on those songs that are written with a unison background; no harmony. It is probable that FLo was absent from one of the earlier recordings of the song before the final cut. I have heard the single with the enhanced vocal and it sure sounds like Flo to me. Is is possible that Marlene sounded THAT much like Flo?

  • @missbirdsong It's defiantely Flo on My World, I have an alternate mix which features the backing just as loud as the lead (and the strings louder too) and it's evident that it's Flo and Mary.

  • @missbirdsong It is Marlene on this song!

  • bellacharo, I am referring to My World is not Rflections.

  • cool ,thanks

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • OH yOUR WELCOME!

  • Hi. I didn't see this before I memo'd you. Here is a friend invite to U. (Sorry about that)

  • "In July we released 'Reflections', the first single released under the name Diana Ross and the Supremes. Because we recorded our singles so many months in advance of their release, this is the last hit single Flo appears on." -- p. 204, "Dreamgirl My Life as a Supreme" (Hardcover, first edition, 1986).

  • even i know that! i read her book.

  • actually, "In and Out of Love" is the last hit to Feature Flo.

  • italoman9 has a point - the soprano on this recording has never sounded like Flo to me. I think I can hear Mary singing the lower part but the soprano really doesn't sound like Flo - especially if you listen to the instrumental.

As a MASSIVE Flo fan I really do believe that one of The Andantes is singing the top part.

Anyway, I still love this song

  • Yep that was what i was thinking. I know i heard mary.

personally i think that it was Mary Flo, And one of the Andantes.

  • I reckon Flo probably recorded vocals for this - or at least knew the backing part but I definately hear The Andantes.

  • This is what I read regarding this song.

Flo did sing on the recording, but.. when Cindy was brought in, they dubbed her over Flo and minimized Flo. So actually it features a blend of Flo and Cindy's voices.

    Pretty interesting I think

  • Cool!

  • I can agree with that. It is certainly not Flo´s soprano completely.

  • Motown would never dub in one singers voice in the 60's. It just wasn't that important. This was recorded with Flo and Mary period.

  • This song was released when Flo was still in the group! So there is nothing to minimise.

  • I did check into this. Mary's books do say Flo was on the recording. So I do believe that. Though depending who's telling the story/writing the book you get different versions.

It really seems Cindy didn't get much of a chance to sing, except the album with the temptations & the farewell and of course in the 70's. So I was mistaken.

I went to Motown a couple of months back, and Flo's grave. Detroit is pretty dead now as far as motown, but I did enjoy seeing the old studios.

  • @svgbaritone not true. cindy is nowhere on this song.

  • You are right. It never did sound like Flo to me either. It does sound like Mary to me but Flo?

  • @missbirdsong It sounds like it's Mary doubled (as Mary could sing that high on a good day) or one of The Andantes

  • Perhaps. I have heard the song without music and it sounds like Flo. On the Motown kareoke it sounds nothing like Flo to me.

  • @MeetTheSupremes You hit the nail right on the head! It is Mary and Marlene Barrow!

  • lol I'm hearing The Mr. Bills..oops, sorry, The Andantes, back there. I hate their voices and no Supremes records were as good when they did not have Mary, Flo or Cindy. I don't buy the decades-old banter that it's Flo and Mary backing this, and maybe only sweetened by Andantes. Here the enhanced bridge--there are those stupid-sounding Andante voices that sound nothing like Supremes.

  • What a great mix! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  • Your Welcome!! Thnx Alot!

  • Fabulous, as always, Suede! Thanks so much. Love hearing Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard's iconic background vocals.

  • Thnx for your wonderful Comments!!

I remember when i first joined & i olny had 1 supremes video - After All, & U think my Videos are Fabulous! Thanks it Means Alot!

  • Well i thought it would be a little better if you could hear all three voices - including mary & flo..

  • Suedemiddleton, keep up with the great videos!!!

  • thanks Alot!

  • Suedemiddleton, you have to consider the mental issues that oceanprick has, which is dangerous!!!

  • HAHA Thats funny!
