I remember watching this on a local station, on a bleak, cold, windy Christmas afternoon, with wind-torn gray clouds overhead. I was just a kid but I was blown away by the quality of the animation and the dreamlike and often nightmarish feel of it all. That bit with the phantom hearse going up the stairs gave me the shudders! I found a DVD of this on Ebay and have treasured it ever since.
Oh man! I saw this cartoon when I was a kid...I think I was about 8, and it scared the hell out of me out back then. It was the most eeriest cartoons I'd ever seen at that time. It's nice to see it again. I think they didn't show it anymore because it upset alot of kids, and parents because it is disturbing, but cool just the same. Very well done, and happy to have seen it again, after all these years!
Damned scariest version --- saw this in the '70's as a kid, but I can look at it now in wonder (if in a slight cringe!) Marley's mouth freaked the heck out of me!
Oh, me too - this is the only version that ever seemed to me more than a fable. There is real horror in all 3 ghosts, and a genuine sense of death in the air. As a kid, I think I was just dumbfounded; when it came around again when I was 22, I taped it and never let it out of my hands. Someday I hope it will be resurrected. Mr Magoo this ain't,.
Oh wow...I've looked for this for years. We used to watch it every December in grade school back in the 70s. I always remembered how eerie it was,I always thought it was an excellent version, very haunting animation. Thank you so much for posting this!!!

It's one of the best versions I've ever seen (there seemed to be a dozen animated versions that came on every December for a long while).

Can you believe all this was done by hand?
Robert Zemeckis is such an idiot if he thinks that awful mo-cap process is better than this.
WillScarlet16 2 years ago
Amen to that!! Oh, and Zemeckis was smart enough to add blows to the nuts, something that amatuer Dickens failed to include!!

A genius work of animation, and as great a version of a Christmas Carol as any other.
