Campbell High School, a black high school, is also shown with the principle Dr John Brownlow Olinger and Mr. Luttrell, the owner of Roane Theater, Mr Luttrell had this film made to be shown in his theater. Campbell high had a student body from about four counties, being the only black high school in Roane county. Campbell was the smallest accredited high school (black or white) in Tennessee.
At the Rockwood Times newspaper office working as a lineotype operator is Thomas(woody) Majors Brother to Clifford, Francis and Jennings Majors Parents were Ola& Ira. All from Rockwood. Tommy Majors
I live In Rockwood and I remember some of those things..a lot of it is still the same ... but I do miss the movie theatre..I remember going to see E-T when I was a lil' girl there...thanks for the vid.
On this video I see a place called "Bowman Evans Hardware Company." I am surly related to those folks. My Dad is an Evans (from Harriman, TN) and one of his grandmothers had the maiden name of Bowman.
My brother (devans52) and I grew up in Arkansas, but (like our Dad) we think very highly of east Tennessee and of the good folks there.
My Aunt Pat & Uncle Mac Evans watched this video and knew a bunch of people. Mac saw his Uncle Tom Evans & Aunt Ruth Evans and their son Tom Harper Evans in the hardware store.
The principle shown at Rockwood High School is Mac's cousin (Fay Evans). My Aunt Pat attended Rockwood High 1950-1953 and thinks she saw herself coming down the steps with her classmates.
Pat & Mac loved watching this. My Uncle Frank Evans recognized a bunch kinfolk and friends in this video too.

This may have been filmed by Bill Billings, I'm not 100% sure. I got this footage from a VHS tape that my family had.

This really gives a good look at what everyday life was like in 1951 Rockwood, Tennessee. I wonder about the story of who filmed this and the reason?
