thats because team australia do there erg tests on sliders! not on the ground. at jr world champs i was talking with the aussis and they all said like 6:056:10, than they said they test on sliders
the 2 seat is out on catch timing, he is very small compared to the rest and the crew, the cox has the sexiest head i have ever seen. comes close to another bloke i rowed with.. some nice rowing though
it empahisies the feeling of the hands rising up at the catch as opposed to the rolling down action that the wrist creates when squaring the blade rowing normal feather. you also feel the connection with the face of the blade on the water sooner as a result of the way the blade slides into the water more easily. some surf boat rowers still row like it. try it and you will most probably find something else in it too !
I havent seen it done this well as an eight though !
@mitchtickler No one uses reverse feather for races, its an exercise used to increase the finesse of the feather, so when you move to normal feather, the movement is crisp and simple.
@Pilkie101 I think (note, I THINK) it emphasises concentrating on balance and unity within the boat as well as square timing and I heard from someone else raising your hands into the catch for effectiveness. We did this once and when our balance screwed up we caught crabs so we sorted it out pretty quickly.
@Pilkie101 To scare you into having perfect balance (if you catch a crab you get absolutely fucked up - oar to the face, thrown out of the boat, etc) and to work on the blade height. Also to work on the oar sleeve placement in the rigger, so you're not just relying on the square shape of the sleeve for perfect square-ups.

what type of 2k erg times would these guys be pulling?
niueanskier 1 year ago
@niueanskier not sure, but the minimum (best to have or faster than) for USrowing is 6:10 and idk if its the same for them as well or fast or slower.
madcow1337 1 year ago
@madcow1337 thanks for that. It'd probably be the same general area for other countries as well just give or take a couple of seconds.

because its more difficult, the slightest mistake and they'd easily catch a massive crab.

What is the idea behind that reverse feathering drill?
Pilkie101 3 years ago 3
its to correct the timings of the finish arcs. and also reinforces balance

Do any competition Rowers use this 'Reverse Feathering' technique for actual races?
I was impressed by this movement as I have never seen this exercise before.
