3CD RUBY TRAX The NME's Roaring Forty includes: THE MISSION atomic ST ETIENNE strangers in paradaise SUEDE brass in pocket THE FARM don't you want me JESUS JONES voodoo chile RIDE the model CURVE i feel love EMF shaddap you face etc...
What most artists do when they cover a song is like, y'know, give it their own touch and make it their own. Here all they've done is pretty much copy the song completely.
Dunno if anyone else has filled in the blanks, but this is from an album called Ruby Trax, put out to commemorate the NME's 40th anniversary. It features two discs of bands covering songs that they consider highly influential to their own music.
One of the things I love so much about this is that they kept the solo in the end, my favorite part of the song. Unless I'm wrong, I think I hear a couple wrong notes, but the cover is still amazing!
Also interesting: "Go Now" was written by Larry Banks, who in turn was a member of The Four Fellows, which included David Jones. "David Jones" was Bowie's birth name; he took "Bowie" after concerns of confusion with The Monkees' Davey Jones.
This track is available on Tears for Fears' 1996 CD "Saturnine Martial & Lunatic." It's the only track on the disc not (at least partially) penned by Roland Orzabal. It also apparently appears on the NME 3-CD compilation Ruby Trax, from 1992, which consisted of classic songs covered by then-contemporary artists. Interestingly, Bowie appears as both a cover-ee and a cover-er on the compilation, that latter being Tin Machine's cover of "Go Now." (cont)
Roland Orzabal said: The NME were putting together a compilation of various artists covering their favourite' number one's' and asked us if we would care to contribute. When perusing the list, I was shocked how few I actually cared for. In the end we plumbed for this brilliant piece by Bowie and tried desperately to do something original with it; Eventually gave up and made a carbon copy - Still it's better than Blur's version of 'Maggie May' (or is it?!!!!)
@GordanStojadinovic Fraid not, Gordan. This is an excellent cover and the Tears for Fears fellows are very talented but no one can surpass The Gentleman. Bowie, after all, is Bowie, and Mr. David Bowie is the EMPEROR of contemporary music. The EMPEROR!!!!
@Sparkina I agree that Mr Bowie is the Emperor. He has been since I was a wee laddy watching 'Sound and Vision' on Top of the Pops all those years ago. On reflection Bowie's original version is better but Roland's version is close. Of course Roland had a fantastic song and performer to base his version on. :o)
An amazing work by two of my most beloved artists!!

1) Hold your breath.
2) Copy all of these steps.
3) Go to two other video.
4) Paste it in the comments.
If you can do all of this without breathing you're a good pot smoker

@fwopgossles yeah, even though Tears for fears is great, this cover is really boring 'cause it doesn't have a "Tear for fears" twist

This is my absolute favorite of all of David Bowie's amazing work, and to find that another one of my favorite bands has covered this...
If this is a dream, please don't wake me up...

only thing I love better than Bowie is Roland Orzabal. I'm glad he stayed so true to the original. First few lines I thought it WAS Bowie! Thanks.
