  • HAPPY BDAY DON!

  • So this was the band that I was named from... good to know

  • sorry for the repeat repeat bad system or dumb user

  • The Everly Brothers...how sweet it was and still is...music to capture and inspire the heart. Is that too big a claim? I still recall my neighborhood heartthrobs and how Don and Phil's (and many other's) songs were a theme for my yearnings, which as a boy of pre-teen years I didn't understand at all. Listening now carries me back. Lucky me i remember all the words and melodies...after an hour of this I'll probably have no voice tomorrow!

  • love it...greetings from holland...

  • this song-on vinyl-is superb,i don't like it here though.

  • As, usual, I prefer Paul's version.

  • Did anyone ever do it as well as Phil and Don? Not even John and Paul could...in my opinion.

  • i didn't know paul wrote this song, and it's one of my all time faves!

  • I love the Everlys and their harmonies - unbeatable. They even sang some song in German, very funny and good.

    Love&Peace from Berlin/Germany

  • First time I heard this song it was like "wow" - that was when it was first released and is still among my favourites. It was difficult (but not impossible) to find it on CD. Of course I didn't know it was about a car. Until I got the CD and read the liner notes.

  • The mighty Albert Lee on lead, mans a legend amongst guitarists

  • Don't make songs like this anymore pity Lonewolf4540

  • When they sing "on the wings of a nightengale" kindof sounds like when they sing "Bye Bye Love, Bye Bye Happiness". Sounds so similar. Me no Likey.

  • I was just on the way back to my parents' home as my sister called me on the cell phone that my father has died a few seconds ago. I switched on the radio and heared this song. My wife and me were sitting for minutes in the car and cried. Then we continued to drive back.

  • Most disrespectful pair with respect to their audience I have ever seen.

  • I saw them in London in 1985 - and years later here in Copenhagen (think it was 2004) when they appeared a guest artists with Simon & Garfunkel. Oh... I just love this sound!!!

  • love them

  • Like their 1984 '57 Chevy vid of this tune.

  • Enjoy these songs people---you are listening to the greatest duo in Rock & Roll history-----Their harmonies are so clear---just beautiful

  • They never lost it. Pure magic. jhp

  • Dear Phil and Don Everly,

I think you are great one of the greatest ever, thank you for all your wonderfull music.

    RLFOLEN

  • PHIL EVERLY explained:

"Don and I are infamous for our split, but we're closer than most brothers.

Harmony singing requires that you enlarge yourself, not use any kind of suppression.

Harmony is the ultimate love."... Erik aka Ricky Teal, FLORIDADADAAA

  • They still got it fantastic song

  • Thank you - Dj

  • I saw the EB two years in a row D.C. I didn't feel well the 1st yr, so I attributed a "weak" show to that. Plus they had a keybrd player in the back that mugged throughout the show. He pissed me off so much I wanted to stand up & yell at him. Disrupting beautiful EB songs with faces & goofy posturing: I wanted to kill him.

  • Anyway, flash forward a year and I say let's go again. My wife doesn't want to, but we go. Well, first, the asshole keyboardist is still there and he is WORSE than the year before, Second, the show is IDENTICAL. All the jokes the SAME. All the "ad-libs", the SAME.

    It was disgusting.

  • @ladbrady Don't blame the Everly Brothers because you disliked their keyboard player. Fuck the stupid keyboard player and just listen to two of the greatest voices ever.

  • You don't ,by any chance , have them singing "Claudette" do you. A wonderful version...better than Roy's I think.

  • @friskieadams There is a video of them singing "Claudette" at the reunion concert but if it is uploaded to youtube, the owners of the copyright have it taken down as they are selling it on a DVD, (fair enough I suppose.)

so I won't be uploading it I'm afraid.

  • Thanks for posting this performance...great song, great performance...it's all good in every way.

  • Beautiful performance! Happy New Year! - and thanks to hrpman for sharing this great video.

  • Oh what beautiful harmony! Thanks for sharing this, Scott. I'll keep listening. Great song!

  • Oh this is so beautiful! What gorgeous harmony. Thanks for sending me this video, Scott. I'll keep it so I can watch it more times.

  • That was awesome. I can't get enough of this. Paul, thank-you for this song. Phil, Don,--your music always makes my day.

  • this is their best song and Sorry they did it great til they had to hit the high notes and decided to bail....it is a tough noteto hit though

  • This version is overproduced, McCartney had a nostalgic acoustic version in mind when he wrote this.

  • great song!! And they're also great when they sing live!

  • WOW ...A GEM SUNG LIVE BY DON AND PHIL EVERLY..

    THANKS SO MUCH...

    ERIK TIELMAN, FLORIDA

  • rediscovering everly brothers. lyrics and music easy on the ears

  • rediscovering everly brothers.Nice easy on the ears lyrics and music

  • @ptevlin

Mark Knoffler of Dire Straights fame wrote "Why Worry" with the EB in mind and sent it to them to record. Their version is great. Saw them live here in the United States many times. Great Harmony... no one does it better. Good luck.

  • Written by one of their biggest fans, Sir Paul...as another of their greatest fans declared " I LOVE the Evs" - John Lennon

  • I also love hearing these guys ....their version of Lay Lady Lay which I read Bob Dylan wrote for them to sing !!!!....the Album EB84 is amazing as was Born Yesterday ...I saw them at Chastain Park and Phil had this guy catching his guitar he would throw it up in the air at least 20 or 25 feet straight up and this poor roadie had to catch it ...ouch ...but he never dropped it ...take that Pete Townsend !!! LOL ...

  • @gregorylee888 , loved that bit about the roadie catching Phil's guitar.... these background stories are great!!!

  • @gregorylee888 OMG, so wild! I've only seen rockstars throwing away drumsticks... LOL Some people seem to forget that the Ev's are not only close-harmony singers but they also have R'n'R in their blood! I just love their versatility.

  • Remember this song well!

Can not beat the harmony of these two brothers.

    This is MUSIC!!!

The junk today is just that, JUNK!!!!

    Thank you megasuggs for posting!

    jc3494

  • Thanks for posting this............have loved Don and Phil ever since they started and have seen them in person many times. They are definitely the finest two harmony singers ever to perform. Love them!

  • I grew up on Everly Brothers Hits, but missed them for years. When they made this reunion comeback, I was thrilled. All of a sudden I was a young girl again. Auditory memory is so powerful. The brothers' clear, beautiful tones gave me chills. Since this concert, the three albums that followed have become my favorites. Their harmony is beautiful to hear.

  • They really are very good.

  • The Beatle's knew how great the Everly's were as did so many that emulated their style. Nothing wrong with that

  • Einfach Kult !! Diesen Song liebe ich besonders !!

  • I love it.

Things come full circle and a Beatle gives back to one of the heroes that inspired him in the first place.

I love the Everly Brothers anyway.

  • Here is a case where two singers sound better together than they do by themselves. The Everlys were amazing in that regard and that's why their music will always be some of the best stuff on Earth!

  • heel goed deze kus kus wikke

  • is een goed plaat kus kus wikke

  • I wouldn't want to hear anyone else sing any of the Everly songs! Don and Phil are the best! They are sooooo AWESOME!

  • another brilliant song written by mccartney

  • Ugh... did these guys even LISTEN to the demo Paul McCartney did for them? they've RUINED it....... (sigh!!)

  • Don has the best voice in music and I really like a lot of other voices...he is amazing! But there's Paul McArtney, John Lennon, Elvis, Carl Perkins, Denny Doherty, and just about everyone else...thanks to you all!

  • A great single that didn't need any emphasis on who happened to write it in order for it to be a hit.

  • that's about as good as harmony gets.

    Thanks Phil and Don

  • NObody was ever better. I wouldn't want to hear anyone else sing this. I have to say that about every hit the Everly's had.

  • I'm 66, the first record I bought was Bye Bye Love, and the first LP Songs Our Daddy Taught Us. In the years between, I've loved all kinds of music, but never lost my affection for the Everleys. Whose to touch them for that instinctive harmony?

  • I'm 47 and have been a big Everly Brother's fan for a long time. Imagine my excitement when I went to a Simon and Garfunkel show sometime around 2003 in Boston, and - much to my surprise - S&G introduce the Everly Brothers to the crowd in the middle of the show. As much as I like S&G, I didn't want Don and Phil to leave the stage after performing three songs.

  • reminds me of my dad xxx

  • great song

  • Great Artist...!

  • thanks Paul You were and still remain the greatest melodic man of all time

  • It just shows you that McCartney can still pull a decent melody out of the hat when he's inspired enough. Writing for his childhood idols seemed to have brought out the best in his songwriting. Too bad he's not that inspired of the time these days.

  • wonderful

  • I remember this very well on the DVD video with there pink cadiliac. great singers, but than todays pop groups and singers.

  • Genios cantando una canción genial hecha por otro genio, qué genialidad!! jejejeje Gracias! Saludos Mx

  • Great song....! I was there...I will always remember that great experence.

  • Oh, such primo stuff. I visited London for the first time in '83, and managed to get a standing room only ticket at Albert Hall to see these two. What a treat....

  • The Beatles idolized the Everlys, must have been great for Paul to pay them back with this wonderful song.

  • @fmarine1 No kidding! Great song and those amazing voices...might have been fun to hear if Paul made it a trio.

  • Crytal Gale On the wings of a dove

sounds wonderful im reminded when hearing this tune.

  • Paul mcartney wrote the song maybee they did better with the john sebastian song stories we could tell.[maybee they should have did the ferlin husky song on the wings of a dove, they did an album of british rock songs two yanks in england].

  • NO DEAL

  • From the looks of things, it appears that the beautifully produced and shot video featuring the restoration of the '57 Chevy backing this song is no longer available for viewing. Usually when this happens, it's a copyright dispute (translated...greed) but I sure miss that video. I'm a lifelong fan of the Everly's having grown up with their music and that car....man, what a ride. Anyone know where this vid went?

  • I've only seen them live a few times. Several times in the early 60's at the Surf Ballroom, Clear Lake, Iowa and at their homecoming concert in Shenendoah, Iowa in the 80's. Class act.

  • Superb performance.Wriitten by Paul Mc Cartney & produced by Dave Edmunds on the cd EB84. I have seen the Everlys 24 times live including both nights at the Royal Albert Hall Reunion concerts in 1984.

    Roger

  • Wow! 24 times even beats me, I was at the second night of the reunion, and I have seen them in every tour since, and three times before the split, but that only makes about 16 times.

  • thanks for reply. The first night at the Albert Hall was brilliant as on the DVD. The second night was recorded for the CD but Don had strained his voice the night before and stuggled on a few songs.I sat next to Cliff Richard first night Albert Hall 22nd Sept 83.

    All the best.

    Roger

  • I was there that night too and saw Dave Edmunds in the bar. It was a great night but I had one of the worse hangovers of my life the folowing day and couldn´t listen to Don and Phil for years later. 25 years on I have fianlly recovered from that spectacular hangover.

  • WOW!!

  • @walkerbarnetthill but you didnt see then at the old Hi-way in in Roosevelt NY July 1965 a small road-side Dive. up close and right in your face. it was fantastic. after the show the shook the hands of everyone in the Place... Great pair of gentlemen.

  • @sunrecords56

    Thanks for the reply.

the moment must have been total magic.

    All the best.

  • @walkerbarnetthill and you didnt see them on stage at the Brooklyn Paramount Christmas show 1957.

  • I wish radio was the way it used to be - all AM stations playing great songs. The Everly Brothers were the best!!!

  • written by Paul McCartney, this is a classic Everly Bros song...John & Paul were the British Everly Bros!

  • Their harmonies are so soothing inthese toughh times...

  • They are Irish, born in America.I love the Celtic folk and country music. Some great singers come from that part of the world.

  • Love these guys! Had so much fun singing along when i was a kid; everyone, 1, 2, 3, "When i love...." :D

  • I always figured John Lennon and Paul Mccartney copied their harmonies from the Everlies....they were also quite flawless with harmonies...

  • Don and Phil just keep getting better and better! Absolutely the BEST harmony ever! They are unique in all the world.

  • One of my favorite Everyly Brothers songs. They were popular in the 1960's in the U.S. They had great harmony. Fran

  • They've really changed very much within those many years XD but their flawless harmony is still flawless , even more wonderful than ever and todays bands until now. :D

  • Two classic voices in the Rock Hall of Fame. Unforgettable harmonies that still achieve splendor.

  • Simply the best. I saw them in 1958 or 9, from the 2nd or 3rd row. They were flawless. If anything, they out-performed their records. Perfect close harmony.

  • another Macca under-rated classic....

    Ram on,

    Joe.

  • EBFan41 - Phil did a duet with Vince Gill on Vince's "These Days" CD. "Sweet Little Corinna" - they sound really great together!

  • put the car restoration video back, it was the best.

  • The car-restoration video was the one they kept showing on VH1 in the 1980's. (Martin)

  • I like the car-restoration video better with the very same song! (Martin)

  • witch year is this???

    very good

  • It was 1985.

  • Thank you for your interest and reply. I don't know if you have seen the video on youtube The Top Of The World, but he still looks and sings great. Truely a natural born singer, so is his brother Don.

  • Does anyone know what the Everly Brothers are doing today? I saw Phil singing a song he wrote "The Top Of THe World" and sang it with Rene Shuman on youtube , but It doesn't say when this was done. I haven't seen anything from Don. I know they are both retired, but I was wondering if they are still singing and writing.

  • Key in Everly Brothers news and it should tell you. There is a pic of Phil singing dated 10-23-08 for the Musicians Hall of Fame. I believe that's what it said anyway.

  • Thank you for all the wonderful video clips of the two greatest harmony singers of all time. I'm a very big fan of Don and Phil and have all their music, and now because of your efforts I can actually see them perform their beautiful and also rocking songs.

  • Thank you for your kind comment ebfan41. It has been a pleasure to help bring my all time favorite singers to so many people.

  • @ebfan41 EB 84-one of my favority albums. I have it on the CD player of my 1972 VW Karmann Gia right now.

  • I saw them support Simon and Garfunkel at the Ajax stadium a few years ago, I thought they rocked considering they are not spring chickens, I think they are amazing!!

  • Everly's are great in concert. They are mostly true to the recordings. I give them a break for their age just like I do for McCartney.

  • Genial!

  • Have you ever been to an Everly Brothers Concert?

  • to cpnstav - stick to watching you chinese kiddie porn videos

  • Omg! i love this song, and i didn't know it was McCartney till now...OF course it was by him, dno why i didnt think of that sooner! makes me love the song even more.

    Thanks for posting! :D

    i love their harmonies btw

  • THANKS Everlys! Thanks, Paul....Thanks for posting!

  • Didn't Paul McCartney write this song for them? They deserve better!

  • Who is Suzi Quattro this not a Car she called correct Suzi Quatro...

  • heard this on Suzi Quattro's evening show on Radio 2 this evening, these boys have allways been one of my all time favourites... oh I wish I had seen them the last time they came to the UK

  • sehr gut, klasse.

  • Wow,

    It is a beautiful song.

  • I saw these two in the early 60's at the Surf Ballroom, Clear Lake, Iowa (last stop for Richie Valens, Buddy Holly, Big Bopper). They were great then and just got better over time. A thanks to Paul McCartney!

  • Simply the best duo ever. Thanks for posting

  • Excellent as they always were and are,,RWB

  • This will always remain one of the best classics of all time. Thx.

  • As a 6-year-old kid who was moved by music and fascinated by girls, this song took my soul someplace it had never known existed - made me a lifelong romantic (in spite of everything that has followed since)... ;)

  • Paul wrote the perfect song for their comeback..

  • first time i'm hearing it and i love it

  • these 2 were awesome and are awesome. I'd love too see them cut new albums I remember when this song came out in the 80's they tried a comeback but too much record comapny politics got in the way. Phil and Don just said No way! Stay true Don and Phil, your musicians that I rate in the top 5 of all time best musicians. your Number one.

  • I remember being happily surprised (huge understatement) when I saw the Everly Brothers perform with Simon in Garfunkel in concert in 2003. I knew they had appeared with S&G on the first show of the tour, but didn't realize it was happening throughout the entire tour. As much as I like S&G, I like the Everlys even better. It was difficult to watch them only perform three or four songs. I wanted to hear more. Classy of S&G to bring them out in the middle of the show instead of as back-ups.

  • This is what they used to refer as 'musicians' !

  • i love when they're waving their guitars!

  • This live performance is the best.

  • EXCELLENT!

  • Great song, performance, harmonizing. Paul McCartney knew what he was doing in writing this song for the Everly Brothers. Love this song:)

  • Is that what most of you wonder about. Their

haircuts??? This has been the best and most

popular duo in history! Even Simon and Gar-

funkel admit that. More respect please.

  • Ditto on that!!!! They are not just the greatest duo ever, but one of the best singing acts in any catagory you want to put them. Their influence is everywhere, from S & G to the Beatles, Neil Diamond, A-HA & many many other recording artists. Phil, being my favorite, had many wonderful solo songs as well. I have seen many live performances over the years & I miss them. But, Phil's legs bother him too much now & they have paid their dues to their many fans... now it's their time to relax.

  • No I love their music, I just like Phil's haircut. Wings of a Nightingale is an awesome song. Paul wrote a classic Everly Brothers song.

  • I love the monster comb over!!

  • Comb-overs are for bald dudes. Trust me, neither of these two are bald!

  • I know I just always like Phil's hair cut. the monster comb!

  • Spectacular.

  • The brother harmony is so special.

The fact that they squabble is so funny to me.

    I know all about it.:)))

  • It sounds a little like a George Harrison song.

Would have been such a great song for the Beatles (quasi) reunion in 1994/1995. Why they just missed that chance? Makes me sad.

They could have taken Jeff Lynne as the fourth member.

  • Was composed especially for the Everly Brothers by a Beatle... not Harrison, but McCartney. On their LP 'Born Yesterday'.

  • It was written for the comeback album EB84. Born Yesterday was a different album.

  • Megasuggs Hi ! I have been a lover of the Evs music since the 1950's. The first record I ever owned was Dream, which I shared with my Mum and my brother. We all loved them then, and still love them today. There never has been, and never will be, any solo artist or group, able to reproduce their unique harmonies sound.

  • ... which raises something completely unimportant I was thinking about as I watched the various Youtube Everly clips. HAIR. Tons of the stuff. Was there something different in the water in the 60's? I mean, look at the Everlys/Beatles/Stones/Elvis... etc etc... luxuriant locks, young & old. It seems that only more recently, most young groups always seem to have at least 1 doleful looking hat-wearer (or worse... the concentration camp cut). Maybe it's something to do with more food additives?

  • nobodynose, it is sad you can not see beyond the tiny little existence within the confines of your narrow little mind. Group Think is not healthy. The Everly Brothers are demonstrating individualism. This concept is beyond you, based on your comments. It is best you moooove along with your herd. Straining your limited mental equipment, could possibly expand your mind. Obviously you don't want to do that!

  • sounds great, does anybody know if they are going to perform again

  • It seems unlikely, they last toured in 2005, and came out of retirement for that, they still sounded great though, Don is 71 now and Phil 69

  • thanks for replying,do you know if there was any concert footage on dvd of that tour

  • The Everlys were a big influence on McCartney as well as several other artists from the '60s. I can see why Sir Paul jumped at the opportunity to place a song with them.

  • Hi Megasuggs, I have loved Don and Phil since 1958,when I was 11, and have everything they have done, (musically) including many pirates, but this is one I have never seen. It's absolutely gorgeous, a wonderful song, that The Ev's do as only they can. A truly happy song, as Don described it. I saw them two years ago at the Royal Albert Hall, but I think Don had flu, and he kept having "senior moments" by forgetting the lyrics. It was still great.

  • Don must have had an off day, there were no such problems at Ipswich four days later, when I saw them. I'm glad you like the video, have a look at the rest of my channel, plenty more Everlys.

  • Hi,megasuggs,

What I wrote was certainly not meant as a criticism;they can do no wrong for me! .There are 4 generations my family of Everly lovers now,the youngest being my baby grandson!

I am new to YouTube, and you have opened up a whole new world for me. Thank you very much, and I am indeed looking at your entire portfolio. I am glad Don was feeling better at Ispwich - I know they are both in good form now. Marilyn

  • I love this song.

It was a result of a 'tender' the Everlys put out to have a song written for them. Several submissions followed, notably from Mick Jagger; however, this Paul McCartney effort 'won'.

  • Beautiful song. I bought EB84 and when I read the review of this song even the McCartney synics bowed their collective heads in praise. Paul on the other hand humbly said I did't want to give them a peice of rubbish, thought this one was a goodin. ED

  • My English is not good (i come from holland), but i want too tell you, that this song is thimelesse and my age is 31 years

  • Thanks SO much for posting this! I became a real fan when I was 16 and they had their U.S. TV show. Used to go see them play at Knotts Berry Farm whenever they were there. Then in 73 I was in Europe when I heard about Phil smashing his guitar at Knotts. Broke my heart but Phil did GREAT solo work. The Reunion Concert healed my wounds. Bless you Phil and Don.

  • Sometime in the mid 'seventies (after the Berry Farm breakup) I saw Don on local TV. It was an ultra-low budget country show out of Toronto. There was Don--bloated, dishevelled--maybe still half in the bag. He launched into "So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)"

It was a moment of genius! One of the most beautiful ballads ever written by one of the greatest voices in popular music. I prayed this talent had not gone to waste forever. Phil has always been my favourite, but give Don his due!

  • It doesn't look like either one of them has lost a single hair on their head. :)

  • Great music! Thank you!

  • Can you imagine these two as young, headshaved US Marines? They were at one time, Marine Reserve. They certainly could have chosen an easier way to serve, you have to admire them for that. Thanks to McCartney for one last chance for them to show their stuff!
