Sony A 900 is a piece of junk, I got so mad after I ordered it on Amazon, I canceled it after I found out this junk Sony cannot do video. This stupid man here did not mention anything about the lack of video or his weird shit accent I cannot understand.
@le0401 Check the date I made this video: 3 years ago. At that time only 2 DSLRs had video: the Nikon D90 and the Canon 5DII. Therefore at that time, video on a DSLR was so unusual, you'd only mention if something had it, not if it didn't. But just to make sure, I did state this clearly in my review at cameralabs, which I encouraged you to read at the end of the video. As for being stupid, what about the person who orders an expensive 3 year old camera without checking all the facts first?
@cameralabs pretty sure at 2:34 you also say there is no movie mode here.....so therefore you did mention a lack of video i think le0401 has a lack of brain cells!
@le0401 You are nothing but a stupid troll who has posted the same lies over and over again. You're a penniless idiot who will never own anything of value.
@le0401 just saying he does say at 2:30 "there is no movie mode"... you should probably do more research before you buy a camera and then get angry at someone for doing a great free service for something they didnt do...
One thing he forgets to mention here is that Sony always delivers the highest Dynamic Range (close to film) compared to any other brand on the market.
With such high DR capability, free anti-shake for any lens attached, a huge 24MP full-frame sensor... this 3-year-old camera is still unbeatable.... Kudos to Sony.
@SUPERSS90 what s the problem with a 5 sec. advertisement? u got a good rev... or do u wanna buy a 5$ photography magazine? i don't understand your thought. :) anyway have a nice day
Great Review! I am wondering about the A900 for bird photography? Is this idea good, bad, crazy, perfect, whatever? With something like a 400mm? I am not a pro. I was wondering if the features of the A900 would fit with bird photography. Some features would never be used, some features would help, some features would be a hinderance?
I'm sorry but 24mp is absolutely ridiculous... I printed out a 1x2 meter photo on canvas from my 12MP D700 and it's fine... My HDD is already jampacked w/ 12MP, 24 is asinine unless you're planning to get your shots on billboards or want to crop the hell out of your images... Video is very nice to have too, can't wait for the new Nikon D700 replacement, hoping it will only have 18MP
i have a xti,40D,50D----im now contemplating the canon7D or the sony A-850 with a 50f/1.8 to start with----I cant decide----I know the specs etc,FFadvantage and the like but idd like to know how the sony is with accurate color realism ,which canon algorithims have mastered pretty well --I wouldnt want to backstep just to get FF --- thought's ?------//-------also sony A-850 vs nikon D700 similar price, which would have the more realistic images ? -- thank's Gordon
@sasktank Sony has the best color in the industry without going to digital medium format cams. Also if you're deciding between high end DSLRs, dont cheap out on lenses like a 1.8. You wont be doing any high-end camera justice and will be more disappointed than happy. always feeling like you need to upgrade your cameras instead of your lenses.
Give this a read: [photo.net/wedding-photography-forum/00V98v]
It is a nice camera, even though I still can't get used to the Sony logo to a camera. But the brand issue aside, I just got the 85mm f/1.4 lens, and it really brings the camera to life! I mean, you really don't need a flash with that lens. In addition the camera looks much better with the prime lens than the clunker f/2.8 zoom.
Instead of taking 20 pictures to get it right you can keep that number down getting the correct exposure right with the first shot. In some situations it might be useful. I however don't.
just came back from BH store where i had the opportunity to play around with this baby. They had 2 A900's with different lenses available: some cheapo crappy kit plastic-fantastic(no match for the camera) and the wonderful 24-70 F2.8 Carl Zeiss. What dramatic difference in the results. I once again played with Nikon D700 and put similar settings in both D700 and A900 - both wonderful tools. See nothing so different in Nikon to drool over if you have a great set of Minolta/Sony lenses
But i wish you had more video reviews about lenses (Especially sony lenses).I don't know if its possible, but it would be handy for more people I think!
I believe that the A900 also allows users to change the focusing screen themselves. In practice, is this as simple a procedure as Sony would have us believe? I would be particularly interested in using a type L screen to end those wonky architecture blues ...
Thanks! I use a Sony DCR-HC96 to film these videos. Feel free to ask about the A300 in the Sony section on the cameralabs forums if you have any Qs...
They're generally quite slow in operation, so sports or action photography is normally out - but everything else is fine - such as landscapes, portraits. Check out hasselblad and mamiya's websites.
A medium format camera is one with a sensor (or that uses film) that's bigger than 36x24mm, also known as the 'full-frame' 35mm format. The best-known brand is Hasselblad. They're generally very high resolution, but expensive and targeted at pros.
Thanks poopoip! I always mention the numbers of elements and groups in the lens reviews at cameralabs . com that accompany the videos you see here. As for an explanation, the number of elements simply means the number of actual optical pieces in the lens. Some of these are 'stuck' or work together in what's known as a group.

@le0401 You are an idiot. The A900 was released 3 years ago when most high end DSLRs did not have video. Some of them still don't have this feature.
The camera is now discontinued. It will be replaced next year by a new model that includes video.

If you had that much cash on hand and have such a need for video, why not get a video camera instead of a video capable DSLR or DSLT?

Hey,
In response to your post upon the video "Sony Alpha DSLR A900 review".
If your looking for a good, Cheap DSLR to get started with, I would vouch on you getting the A200.
I've recently started Photography myself and the A200 is actually better than the A300.
The only difference between the both is that the A300 has a pop out screen.
Just thought i'd tell you so that you can save a bit of money =]
All the best.
