  • No Infinion next year.. Or any road course... :( Nascar is epic when its road course.

  • what did boris say?

  • 1:14 hohoho!

    great sound, i like

  • Do NASCAR cars have pad knock-back at all? They must have some but is it very prominent?

  • I met him last saturday and he cussed my step dad and his teamster brotheres. He threatned to spray us with a fire hose... and said the F*** word every other word... He owns a BMW dealership in Murrieta CA.

  • I met him twice. Really disappointed he didn't get a prototype ride.

  • I wonder how good he is at dancing??? if he is any good he would a good star on'Dancing with the Stars!'

  • wtf? he shifted up without going into neutral

  • @davis5481 It's called a dog box, which has straight cut gears and dog rings in place of syncros. Makes way more noise than a street transmission and is easier to tear up, but the result is stronger gears and really fast shifts.

  • @billyjack70 o0o0o0o0oo0o0ohhhhhh, okay. Thanks :)

  • odd to see a driver using a clutch at a road course. He doesn't need to use it

  • @TGTAP

You do if you don't like wheel hop under braking.

  • @PulletSurprise Not all the time. JPM rarely uses the clutch and deals just fine

  • I'm surprised he's not a left foot braker.

  • Boris said what?

  • Nice video...Boris is one of the best roadcourse racers

  • Damn! That heel-and-toe shift is incredible.

  • Why doesn't he have to use the clutch when up shifting?

  • @granpastreetz

Straight cut gears in the gearbox. Most road car transmissions use helical cut gears with synchronization mechanisms to make the shifts smoother. You can shift these transmissions quite fast if you know what you're doing, but they won't be nearly as fast as a gearbox using straight cut gears with what are called "dog rings". Dog engagement gearboxes don't require the gears being shifted to be matched with the engine's RPM, so you can select gears with much greater speed.

  • @granpastreetz i'm not a mechanic by any means, but i think it has something to do with the synchronized transmissions they use in the cars. if you time it perfectly you don't have to use the clutch.

  • @sleepfortheteam These are non-synchro mesh trannyes. You do not need to use the clutch either way, while it was much easier to up shift than down shift. Perfect example when you watch him come out of turn 11 all he does is lift the throttle slightly and shift. They have "dog ring engagments, which is just a positive type engagement system. Can be very dangerous if done wrong, but they are excellent for race cars

  • what did boris say?

  • @jimmiesdrivefor5

    WHO SAID?

  • @PulletSurprise BORIS SAID

  • Engine sounds fucking great!!!!!

  • Thats a hell of a transmission when all you have to do is pump the gas to shift up.

  • Has this guy never heard of left foot braking?

Here in europe you have to use all you got, to make a difference.

But don´t worry.....Ekström is gonna show your guys, how to drive properly.

  • Never heard of left-foot-braking?

Maybe in America it isn´t necessary, to make a difference.

But here in europe you have to use everything you got, to be a little quicker, than the rest.

Just wait and see.....Ekström will show you guys, how to drive.

  • @Helldriver7839782389

Its got a lot to do with the sensitivity you develop in your feet. Whe u race manual gearboxes all your life, you right feet becomes more sensitive to the breaks. In europe most cars have semiautomatic ot sequential shifts which dont need a clutch, just two pedals while racing. hence drivers use lots of left foot breaking and develop their left foot to be more sensitive.

So he may prefer to use his right feet since he is used to it, even whn not required.

  • @Helldriver7839782389

It has nothing to do about making a difference or not required in america. This guy is faster than most european drivers who use left foor breaking.

FYI in 2005 Boris Said won the 24 Hours Nürburgring Nordschleife.....thats enough said.

  • we should have a second infineon date.

  • man that thing is screaming along pit straight.

  • wow you can see the heel and toe footwork there when shifting down thats amazing

  • I hate the Cute. It down grades NASCAR, and makes them look like pussies. All other series use the carousel, why can't NASCAR?

  • straight cut gears

  • What kind of clutching system do they have? I noticed Boris using the clutch when downshifting, but not using it when up-shifting.

  • Sequential gearbox, like a motorcycle. See "Sequential Manual Transmission" in wikipedia.

  • and all those retards out there still think nascars only go in circles. they should probably see this video.

  • That's exactly what Klaus Graf once explained to us german NASCAR fans on TV.

These Stockcars are so difficult to drive, so Boris has to tell the car what he'll be doing next. Note how he opens the throttle just a bit and then slams it.

All our european racecars can be floored just after the apex because of suspension, low weight and aero, like Lauda once said "A monkey could drive them"

I'm a regular Le Mans visitor, it is amazing how early these guys go full throttle, Boris really works here

  • Absolutely right. Almost wish that Boris would come over to the British/World Touring Car series for a season, I'm convinced that if he was given a good team he would do a Nigel Mansell - as in, come in, and win the title in his first season. He is an unbelievable road course driver.

  • good track but nothin beats the nurburgring

  • I absolutely love watching this guy's footwork inside a racecar. Boris Said is one hell of a racer and I'd be more than honored to take his advice on how to race cars on road courses. It's almost like watching a person create art when the camera shows his fancy footwork haha

  • @KKFan9 yeah you are exactly right i love watching it too its amazing

  • WHOOAAAA soundz like he shatterd 4th at 1:14

  • Just backfire from the exhaust (unburned fuel exploding)

Race engines, especially less engineered (in terms of high tech) ones like NASCAR engines do this

But I admire these engines. Carburettor engines with 5,7 litres going close to 10k rpm... WOW

btw, Boris is one hell of a road course driver. He was BMW worksdriver when they brought the old E46 M3 GTR ALMS car to the Nurburgring 24h on the Nordschleife. He did well sharing the car with Stuck and other Ring experts

  • The gear setup, it appears, is a 3 gear setup. He was bouncing the motor off the rev chip; ~9500 RPM. Really cool hearing/watching him downshift from 3rd to 1st going into the hairpin.

  • @Smokinstewart05

NASCAR series all use 4 speed + reverse gearboxes. Drivers seldom use 1st during road courses races because of the risk of breaking rear traction with the greater power and torque of the engine's higher RPM's. They'll use 1st in qualifying or when things get heated up during the end of the race and they're fighting for position.

So the shifts going into the hairpin would have been 4th to 2nd.

  • @PulletSurprise I understand what kind of gearboxes NASCAR uses. Some drivers prefer a 3 gear, lower rear ratio for Infineon. The 1st gear is always tall just to keep traction regardless if the car is set with 3 or 4 gears. You can see when he's in 1st or 2nd he's rolling into the throttle, not just full throttle right away.

Here's a Jeff Gordon on board.

    /watch?v=0E6QYjGnRRc

  • WHO SAID?!?.... BORIS SAID!!!!!

  • i remember watching him do this in the race

i love nascar i watch all of the races

  • its called hell toe, and everyone breaks with their right, theres a clutch to use mate!

Left foot braking is an art but not in an automatic :P

  • I'm a "Said Head"!!!! Boris Rules!!!!!

  • wallace and rudd had the best foot work there

  • god damn, he revs his rpms high as fuck

  • Marcos is great no doubt, I'm also a fan of his. But Boris Said won the Nurburgring Nordshlife 24 hour race in 2005. That alone puts him way up in my books. You cant win that race and not be awesome. Imagine how hard it must be to navigate that track in pitch black.

  • you got a point there, but im not taking into consideration endurance, GT or sportscar racing, i was focusing purely at a series both drivers have had a crack at.

  • Well Marcos Ambrose has been driving V8 supercars for years...Boris only drove 2 races...i would know because im Aussie..so its unfair to judge on 2 races in comparison to years...Ambrose drives NASCAR more often than Boris does..Boris is more of a roadcourse ringer..

  • Nice! Now with Sky Sports showing Nascar you get ads or Sky's own studio work instead of these onboard pictures.

  • it does not look like a very hard track and he does not even do any kerb hopping

  • i think sears point looked cooler in the 90's.

  • He taught Kasey and apparently he now feels Kahne is better than him. Boris really has my respect as an individual and as a driver, I cannot tackle Infineon in the virtual world - I constantly get bucked by the uphill/downhill chicane on the Turn 2-3 tranformation. You have to respect someone with the ability to drive these things well - even Montoya (just stop the crash & bash).

One guy who really deserves attention at Infineon is McMurray. For all his poor showing he's good on roadies.

  • to many turns to compicated

  • thats interesting, he didnt use the clutch when he upshifted, only when he shifted down. Anyone care to explain?

  • Don't need to. Technically don't need to on downshifts either, though it's harder. Just have to really be good with the gearbox.

Don't need to use the clutch in passenger cars either.

  • It's a sequantial gearbox. You don't need to use the clutch, however it's easier to change gears with the clutch. The only time you HAVE TO use it is when you go from park to 1st gear.

  • Actually, it's an H-Pattern gearbox, but you don't have to use the clutch. The reason Boris uses it is because he's a natural right-foot braker and using the clutch helps save the transmission, greatly eliminating failures.

  • The gearbox nascar uses features square cut gears, and the only time the clutch is needed is on downshifts and starts. OTher than that, it looks and feels just like a normal gearbox. It is characteristic of a sequential, but it still has the H pattern and only 4 forward speeds.

  • Actually they have new gen gearboxes since the 90s that don't require the clutch at all, but I'd recommend using it so you wouldn't blow all the gears, lol.

  • do you have to time the RPMs right like with eaton 8,10,13,18 speeds?

  • negative, unlimited slip flys..but you do have to be on the gas to have pressure on the plates...no thats why you do atcually have to engage the clutch to downshift due to the fact that your not on the gas...these are not Formula 1 cars

  • The actual reason he uses the clutch on downshifts isn't to save the transmission but to keep from locking up the tires. I would know, I race

  • your actually the only one here that knows why people heel toe. i race formula ford in nz and australia and we HAVE to heel toe other wise the rears lock (compresion lock) and going up the gears i personally keep my foot hard in it and stab the clutch going through the gate. (im 15 and have been tought this by mark skaife ect)

  • yea everyone knows that racer or not not..cmonkey ..and of course it hurts your trany..and most skilled racers only brake and downshift while going straight before they hit the helix of a turn so that wont happen

  • I never drove a NASCAR car before, but I think that it must be impossible to downshift without using the clutch (maybe a true expert can do it), because the gearbox simply won't accept it due to the difference of rotation between gears.

  • Oh, and you need to rev up the car (while the clutch is pressed on) just to make this "synchronization" while downshifting... if you don't then you WILL CERTAINLY make your traction wheels (rear on this case) LOCK instantly and it doesn't matter if you're going straight or not. That's the real purpose of the Heel and Toe technique... downshift quickly without locking wheels by reducing the rotation difference between gears. Yes, it helps save the transmission, but isn't the primary objective.

  • Boris is a master at road courses.. he taught Junior

  • boris said is going to be racing

at bathurst in the austrailian v8 supercar's

    series.

  • Oh really? That's great, Bathurst is such an amazing track. Lucky you aussies. :)

  • I didn't know about that. Thanks for the information.

  • Boris Said kicks ass.

  • yeah, along with matt, how did you get the in car on youtube? Did you pay for the service?

  • It was prolly taken from a pay-per-view channel or whatsoever, but I can't tell ya for sure. Digital broadcast wich allows you to choose the audio track so that's why we don't listen to the announcers.

I didnt capture it, my friend sent me and I uploaded for our amusement.

    Cheers.

    :-)

  • It was taken from NASN, whatever that is. It's on the bottom of the screen.

  • @guitarguy940 I think this is Nascar Hotpass when it was PvP.

  • its called flat shiting lol omg

  • What exactly is "flat shifting"? Is it a real technique?

  • "Flat shifting" is when you don't use the clutch. As you can see on the vid, when Boris shifts gears, he doesn't use the clutch. He just takes he foot off the gas and shifts gears. He only uses the clutch to leave the pits and to go into first gear, i think.

I'm probably wrong but its a guess.

  • Combatking08 you are wrong. He doesn't use the clutch when he is upshifting. But he uses it the rest of the times, as in a stock standard car.

  • OK thanks for correcting me.

  • Actually the transmissions used in Busch cars at the 2007 Mexico City race are a new type that do not require the use of a clutch to up or down shift.

  • Actually, you can it w/ just about any transmission if you have the RPMs matched correctly. If not, you'll be replacing the synchros very quickly.

  • They've used the trannys that don't require the clutch since the early 90's.

  • Not quite. Flat shifting is when you don't lift off the throttle at all on the up-shifts.

  • why doesn't he use the clutch when he's upshifting?

  • How do you get NASCAR In Car?

  • nice shifting o.O

  • love boris said but in this video he only shift locks half the time(press's gas, clutch, and brake)

  • It's called heel-toe downshifting, which he only does when he downshifts, hence the name of the technique.

  • Having the footwork picture really adds to it! Mezmerizing!
