@axt947 - Yup a lack of rubber feet, and the frame not being square, make it move itself quite easily, I haven't actually touched this thing in over a year, keep on meaning to, but its kinda buried in the garage right now.
What size motor? If you get it working then you can try building a wood gasifier for it. Electric power from wood chips! Keep at it! Also consider a quiet muffler system, I hooked a car muffler to my 8 HP 4 KW generator and piped the exhaust outside, it helped, I've read of people piping into large metal drums to quiet it down. I used Flex pipe from the auto parts store.
@notoriouslizw - honestly, not even sure, never checked out I know its a vertical shaft, and I believe 3.5hp (could be more), It doesn't have a primer I know that. My issue with wood gasification, is it really can chew up the engine. I have thought about changing the exhaust to help quiet it down (maybe even utilize the metal tubing on the frame to help muffle it)
Keep at it. If the alternator gives you to much grief, try to find a one-wire alternator. All the complexity is done internally for you. Make sure you're governor is working too. Keep at it, I am interested to see how you do. :-)
@Pierre5484 haven't actually checked but its also not really finished need to figure a way to activate the field coil windings then I can figure out the voltage, of course it helps if i can figure out what kind of alternator it is

Your alternator looks like an Autolite or Motorcraft (both used on Ford products). It may need a separate regulator. You should be able to find the hookup diagram in an older (late '70s?) Chilton's or Motor service book. Look the alt over for identifying info. It would also be a good idea to change the mount so that it spins clockwise (for better cooling). Rubber feet on the base would help stability.
Appears to be self propelled as well.
